E: Earlier today we had a minor breach. Pretty scary. About 3 Safe Class and 2 Euclid Class SCPs got free. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but the Doctors and Researchers were all advised to remain in safe areas until the MTF got the situation under control. However, the Foundation decided to cut me a little bit of slack and sent me to check on the Light Containment Zone to make sure there weren’t any more containment chambers unlocked. The escaped SCPs weren’t particularly lethal with what they do, and they figured I was the only one willing to double-check. Meh, fair on both. While looking through the Light Containment Zone, I came across the Chamber of SCP 049. The door was unlocked, but it was shut. The observation chamber was locked, and I didn’t have my keycard (not like it’d matter, since my clearance wasn’t high enough), so I opened the door slightly to look inside. Empty. I took a few steps inside and looked around. Definitely empty. And smelled horrible. There was blood on certain areas and quite a few surgical tools. While I was looking around, I was suddenly attacked by someone! They were growling and snarling, trying to slash at me with their hands! In a panic, I grabbed a scalpel off the table and stabbed them in the side of the head. It rolled off me, seemingly dead. It was then that I noticed it was a member of MTF. Why was an MTF Soldier attacking me? And so viciously at that…? I then heard a voice behind me, which sparked a conversation. I’ll type it as it occured.
[SCP 049 entered the Room]
049: Oh my. I wasn’t expecting company so soon.
[Enigma turned, seeing the plague doctor]
E: I’m guessing you’re SCP 049, and you’re the one who did something to this soldier.
[049 approached slowly, and lifted the soldier up, laying him back on the table]
049: Forgive the shotty work. I didn’t have as long as I’d like to operate on this one. Quelle déception [Translation : What a disappointment]. While I was attempting to cure this one, I was attacked by a fellow Scientist and had to flee.
E: Cure? [Enigma cautiously approached the table, watching him perform some sort of autopsy on the dead MTF Soldier] Cure what?
049: The Pestilence, of course. I assume based on your confusion that, like your colleagues, you’ve not heard much about it?
E: Not really…I have heard that you kill people, though.
049: A…simplified description. It’s unfortunate that death is a required step for my procedure, but…c'est la vie [Translation : That’s life].
E: Right…so then. Why aren’t you attempting to ‘cure’ me…assuming thisPestilence is real, and practically every living being has it…
049: [SCP 049 tilted his head slightly, and glanced at him] Strange. I hadn’t thought of it. How unlike me…perhaps it was the stress from being attacked earlier. [049 fully turned to Enigma, and observed him for a moment]...Huh…fascinating.
E: What?
049: [SCP 049 turned away, resuming his work] I don’t sense the Pestilence within you. Although…I do sense traces. As if it had once taken ahold of you, but no longer exists within you. I’ve not seen such a thing before…
E: Great…I guess.
[There was silence for a moment as Enigma watched 049 work]
E: So…the Foundation hasn’t been able to determine what ‘the Pestilence’ exactly is…
049: Pas étonnant [Translation : Not surprising]. The Foundation lacks my skill and experience, as well as my centuries of study. I’d be surprised if any member of your Foundation had the ability to identify it.
E: Just in case…could you try explaining it to me?
049: Perhaps. Why are you interested?
E: Could get me a raise. Besides, it’s rare that I get to interact with an SCP like this. Might make for good conversation.
049: Very well. I shall warn you in advance that it is quite complicated.
[Enigma attempted to type what SCP 049 had explained, but for unknown reasons the Device failed to input what he typed. It’s believed that Enigma was unable to translate what SCP 049 had said, and asked the Doctor to do it himself, at which point the Device, due to its limited capabilities, could only input gibberish. Currently unconfirmed by Enigma]
049: [He finished cleaning his tools] Thank you for listening, sir. It feels good to have an intellectual conversation for once. [049 patted Enigma on the shoulder as he left]
[END CONVERSATION]
E: Shortly after this, I felt a little bit sick, and got painful aches in my shoulder. Anyway, the MTF Units managed to recontain the escaped SCPs with little to no casualties. I’m requesting to attend the Funeral for the MTF Soldier that was killed by SCP 049. Don’t know why, but I feel sentimental about it.

LOG DATE : 5/17/[REDACTED]
E: For the past two days I’ve been in the medical bay. My shoulder experienced signs of rigor mortis approximately three hours after my interaction with SCP 049. I haven’t been able to move my shoulder as a result. The Doctors seem really confused about my condition. I assume this effect is what allows SCP 049 to so easily apprehend its victims. Anyway, I’ll be stuck here for a maximum of four days, so I’m putting in a request to have my laptop brought to me, so that I may do my research from the medical bay.
