I woke up dazed after that. While still trying to figure out my situation, the first figure that caught my attention is Rodrigar who was sitting beside me.
“You’re awake?” He turned to the side to look at me.
“Whuh… What happened?” My voice sounded coarse. It might be the after effect of the potion, but I feel my throat dry.
“You suddenly went silent, so I checked up on you. Then I saw you lying dormant on the ground without moving an inch when I came near, that’s why I got the idea that you passed out of something and brought you out from the bushes.” Rodrigar scrunched his face. “Just what in the world you’re doing inside the bush that make you pass out?”
“Oh…” I rubbed my head with my outstretched limb. Given the looks of my formless limb and my translucent light blue body, I am still a slime.
“It’s nothing…” I heaved a defeated sigh. I guess other than giving me pain, the potion didn’t give me any other effect. Thankfully I’m still alive.
“What time is it?” I asked. I remembered that Rodrigar had given me time until the evening to figure out a way to turn into a human other than having to eat them. I hope I still have some time to figure out a way. I really don’t want to eat a human.
Suddenly Rodrigar broke into a smirk. With an arched eyebrows that gave off a sinister vibe, he said. “It’s almost evening now. Do you think you still have the time to find a way to turn into a human with this short amount of time?”
His words sounded as if he was challenging me. I gritted my lips in frustration. In the end, will I have to give in my sense of conscience and consume a human? I recalled the farmers from the village. They are working hard to earn a living, and some might even work for their family. Is it really worth it to kill them just like that?
A window popped out in front of my eyes out of nowhere, snapping me out from my daze.
ABILITY UNLOCKED!
o MORPHING
§ Can morph into anything you desired!
§ Only effective for mammals.
“Morphing?” I mumbled. Did I get an ability after consuming that potion? Plus, I can morph into anything that I wanted? Oh, but it’s limited to mammals only.
I raised both of my eyebrows, pondering briefly. If I can morph into anything, does that mean I can morph into a human? Still, how does morphing into anything I desired works?
“…I think I can transform into a human now.” I blurted out to Rodrigar. He shifted his gaze to me and gave me a pointed look.
“For real now?” His tone judging.
“For real.” Maybe.
“Then show it to me. I wanna see with my own eyes that you can transform into a human.” Rodrigar let out a haughty huff. He seemed to not believe my statement. Of course, I too had a hard time believing the ability that I just gained. I mean, from the moment I woke up in this world until now, this is the first ability that I gained. I thought I am already too OP with my stats and my skills. I guess I can still gain a new ability even with my level. Which also means, I can grow into an even more ridiculous length. Just thinking about it scares me.
Well for now, I have to morph into a human to prove that I am able to be one now and wouldn’t have to eat a human to turn into one. I took a deep breath to calm my nerve.
First, I have to figure out how to transform. Should I shout it out? Or should I click on it? I glanced at my status window that I summoned just now, the skill MORPHING appeared at the end of the list of skills I have.
Maybe I should start by clicking the name of skill. If that prove to work, then I wouldn’t have to shout out to transform. Recalling back the time I shouted to transform after consuming the potion embarrasses me.
My formless hand touched the skill name in my status window. Nothing happened. I even received a strange glance from Rodrigar who was looking at me.
“What are you doing stretching your hand like that? You tired?”
I blinked my eyes at him. Rather than getting ticked off, is Rodrigar perhaps unable to see my status window in front of me?
“You- You didn’t see anything?” I motioned a huge circle in front of me. For a moment, Rodrigar gave the space in front of me an intense glare. Then he huffed.
“What is this? I don’t know you are able to pull a joke at a time like this. Should I just kill a human and bring it to you?”
That statement received a scowl from me. At least it’s good enough that he doesn’t know my stats, it saved me in terms of privacy.
I decided to ignore his crude suggestion and focused back on my current task. If clicking on the name doesn’t work, then does it mean I have to cast it verbally?
I hesitated for a bit. If the skill doesn’t work by the time I chanted it I would get a whole lot of embarrassment being looked judgingly by Rodrigar, though at the very least, he is the only one there to see that embarrassment. I blew a sigh to calm my nerve.
“…Morphing.” I said, in a clear tone. Rodrigar must have heard me because he turned to look at me. Then his gaze suddenly widened.
I think I have a clear idea as to why he looked at me like that. The surrounding literally lit up when I glowed, as a start of my transformation. The air seemed to die down in awe as they witnessed my transformation.
A few seconds after experiencing a strange sensation of feeling something building and hardening inside me, I blinked my eyes open. The shocked expression of Rodrigar is the first one I saw after I opened my eyes. Clueless, I lowered down my eyes to my body to see myself. Then I sucked a sharp gasp.
I… I successfully turned into a human!
My skin is a bit paler than my original skin, and my body proportion is better than my previous body, but I can safely say that I resemble a human. Somehow, I feel proud of myself to be able to transform into a human. I threw Rodrigar a proud look, and rested my hands on my hips gauntly.
“Look Rodrigar, I told you I can transform into a human!”
Rodrigar still gave me that lost expression of his. Suddenly he looked away, his face changed into a conflicted look.
“Yeah, good for you. Now put on some clothes or anything to cover yourself. You are stark naked.”
That fact came tumbling down on me soon after he said that. Now that I remember it, I can only see my body proportion clearly if I am naked, right? Then does that mean…
My body immediately trembled. Supposedly from the cold but the shame rose a few notches higher than that. I am deeply embarrassed.
I immediately covered my chest region and crouched to hide my pelvic region. Rodrigar seemed to stay still and kept on looking at other places besides towards my direction. I can see he was doing so out of manners because his expression isn’t flustered but troubled. I immediately opened the online store and bought any clothes that I first laid my eyes on. I don’t care how the outer clothes looked like, the most important part is the underwear, and that part is where I spent the most time in looking.
After a few minutes of having to bask inside an awkward air between me and Rodrigar, I finally finished putting on my clothes.
“There!” I huffed; my breath is a bit rugged from hastily putting on my clothes.
Rodrigar hesitantly threw me a glance. When seeing me in full clothes, he heaved a relieved sigh and massaged his neck. “Phew, you caught me by surprise there. I don’t know that your transformation could be so flashy.”
I pouted. Your transformation is way flashier than me, you know?
“Now that we are both in our human form, it will be easier for us to enter human settlement. I don’t mind camping out, but it may be different for you.” He glanced at me.
I tilted my head in wonder at him. What is he talking about?
Noticing my confusion, he brushed his hair and groaned softly. “I mean, do you want to take a look at the village? We can stay there a bit.”
My expression brightened up.
“Can we?!” I asked. I actually have been raring to stay somewhere where there is a population of humans. And now that I look like a human myself, it will be easier for me to mingle with other humans. Besides, I’m sick of having to be alone by myself while being surrounded by dark forest. Not even small animals dare to come closer to me because of how big I am.
“Of course!” Is what I wanted to say, but I suddenly remembered what I wanted to do initially.
“It’s okay.” I replied to Rodrigar. He looks a bit surprised for my answer.
“Why?”
“I have my own reasons.” I shrugged. “And the reason is connected to what I’m about to say right now.”
Rodrigar gave me another surprised look. What? Didn’t expect me to tell the reason so quickly?
I heaved a sharp sigh. “Well, I would love to stay in this village, but I have something urgent to do in Rustaval. So, we better head there fast.”
Rodrigar looked like he was fazed for a moment. Pursing his lips for a moment, he pondered for a bit before mouthing his question, a ‘why?’ again but this time sounded to me like he was confused by what I said, and slightly perplexed. Maybe he doesn’t want to go there while knowing the truth about that country?
Even so, I don’t know what he knows. What I remembered from the novel is that Rustaval will perish soon. I might take into account the fact that Elfina is still alive, but what if the plot progressed as usual? I have no way of knowing that apart from witnessing it myself. And if possible, I don’t want that country—which belongs to Kuzan as a soon-to-be-ruler—to perish just like that.
“I told you I have my own reasons.” I repelled his curiosity by repeating my answer.
Rodrigar rolled his eyes and let out a grunt. He looks a bit annoyed now. “Look, it’s better if you didn’t put your hands inside the matters of that country. Rustaval is a country of demi humans, and demi humans have had a beef with humans for a long time now. If we enter the country looking like humans, won’t we be attacked? Though I don’t care because it’s not like they can scratch me or anything.” He ended with a snicker.
What arrogance. It suits him more given he is a dragon. I too am a dragon though. Will I get to be as arrogant as him?
Haha no way, I’m too self-conscious of myself to be that arrogant. No while looking this ordinary.
Talking about looks, I still didn’t get the chance to see my own face. I should take a look at my face later. For now, I really should go to Rustaval to check up on that country. But how do I convince Rodrigar?
“…I’ll give you more of the custard bun if you lead me to Rustaval.”
Rodrigar’s eyes immediately widened.
“…Make it double. You still haven’t given me my reward from having to heed your request earlier.” He must have meant the time I told him to leave me alone to think. Still, that was easy to gain his approval.
“Okay okay, now lead me there.” I motioned to a random direction.
Rodrigar grumbled, yet he still stood up and brushed his clothes from any dust, before he said, “Follow me close. I won’t take responsibility if you get lost.”
