"What? Me?" Rudina asked, surprised. Yukio always had a stern face and was never smiling, especially when giving Rudina orders.
"Yes you" she giggled, giving Rudina a big box.
Rudina collected the box, opening it suspiciously. She wondered what was in it that made her giggle so much.
She paused looking at Yukio.
"What? Open it!" Yukio urged her.
"Ok" Rudina dragged slowly, opening the box slowly.
Rudina gasped when she saw what was in the box. A wide smile appeared on her face.
"This...This...How did you know?" She asked still smiling.
"How wouldn't I know? You turn nine today" Yukio said "It's an important day for all of us"
"What do you mean?"Rudina asked unsure.
"After the celebration I'l tell you. It's not something to say in the middle of celebration" Yukio smiled.
Rudina didn't know what Yukio meant by that but she didn't care. She was more than happy that someone remembered her birthday. She had honestly forgotten about it.
With everything that was happening how could she remember? She was here training to get revenge but on who exactly? She didn't know but she worked hard.
Rudina and Yukio chatted happily as they ate and drank. They drank juice. Yukio made sure there wasn't a single drop of alcohol in it. She couldn't drink alcohol because tonight was an important night.
"Remember Rudina" Yukio said as they retired to bed "What ever happens tonight ring the bell beside you. Don't just sit there bearing it make sure to call someone ok?"
"I can't explain it to you Rudina but you'll know once it happens" Yukio said with a sad smile.
"What happens?" Rudina asked. The more Yukio talked the more confused Rudina got. She had a bad feeling about this.
"You know Rudina" Yukio said sadly "I really hope you make it…. Goodnight"
She disappeared into the hallway why Rudina stood there more confused than ever.
As Rudina laid on her bed to sleep, she thought about Yukio's strange behavior. What was it that was going to happen that made Yukio so sad? Yukio almost sounded like she was going to die.
Rudina turned around staring at the bell beside her. It was a golden bell that had never been there before. Wasn't bells used to call attendants? But there was no one in this place except she and Yukio so who exactly was this gonna call? Was the bell connected to Yukio's room?
Rudina laughed at her silly thought. How could a bell this tiny be connected to anywhere?
Unlike the bells Rudina's father had installed in their house this was a rather small bell. The bell Rudina had was a different type.
It was one of those bells where you couldn't see anything but the rope connected to the bell, the one who sees the bell is the attendant who's room the bell was connected to.
Rudina pulled the bedside table closer then smiled looking at the celling. Slowly her eyes began to close.
Rudina woke up abruptly scratching her eyes. She felt like some had dropped something hot in them.
