She couldn’t have walked in without him noticing her, could she? Just to make sure, he went to check her room.
“Ay!” he called while pressing the handle, more out of habit, ‘cause of course it would be locked.
But surprisingly, the door opened with a screech and a cold shiver crossed his heart. It was unlocked! But why was this so scary? He pushed it open to reveal the outlines of an empty bed, a desk, and a big wardrobe. There was nothing out of place in that room. Everything was tidy and clean - which was surprising, ‘cause he never saw her cleaning anything. He tried to reach for the light switch, but the light wouldn’t turn on. Was the bulb broken? He was just about to leave when the lightning struck. But it wasn’t the lightning, nor the mighty thunder the cause of the cold sweat on his temple. It was the case on the side of the bed - a small black case used for carrying handguns – 9mm firearms. With a trembling hand, he picked up the lid only to see what he was afraid to see - the case was empty.
