It was 4:30 in the morning when the key noise in the door lock put an end to his frenetic calls.

She winces at the sight of a phantomatic Dante, standing in the middle of the living room with his phone next to his ear.

“Where have you been?!” he greeted her with a desperate tone.

She flinched for a second bewildered, but then she immediately went back to her usual whatever mode.

“None of your business!” came the answer soft, but firm while passing by him.

“I mean, I called you like a zillion times and left you a hundred voice messages, you could’ve at least answered back!” he continued his scolding, softening the tone.

“The battery died,” she added just as calmly on her way to her room.

“Don’t you have recharge sockets at your office?”

“I’m tired, I’m going to bed.”

“Where is your gun??” The question was so abrupt and out of nowhere!

“You went through my stuff?!!” she snapped, making a turn, and defining his icy stare.

“I mean, I couldn’t reach you anywhere. I even called your office.  I was worried.”

“What makes you think you’re in a position to worry about me.”

“Please, don’t be like that. I know I hurt you, but I’m asking for another chance here.”

“A day late, a dollar short, don’t you think?!

“Look, I’m just worried about you…”

“Do I seem easy to you?” by this time her voice was already three octaves higher, cracking up on every two vocals, “...because I went out with you once? Or because I let you live in my apartment? Get it through your head, Hot Shot, you’re here only ’cause Amy asked me to. We would have never even met again if not for her. So what chance are you talking about!?!”

She barged in her room slamming the door, as hard as possible, only to use it as support on her way down to the floor, collapsing from the intense rush of anger and the helplessness that was building up inside of her.

“That bastard!” came the sigh from deep in her soul with hot tears rolling down the ghost-like face.
