“You ok?”

“Yeah...” she faked some excitement, but when she met Amy’s eyes, she knew it was needless to try.

“It’s just... Dante. Somehow, he always seems to get to me...”

“Oh, you poor thing.” Amy caressed her hair. “You know, he’s the one who reached out to me first, asked me to help him, you know, just to let him know you’re ok.” She paused, expecting a laser look, but nothing.

“That’s why I insisted on you both coming to the party...”

“He was a total ass at that party.”

“Because he didn’t want you to find out about the jail thing. So, he had to play the jerk. But you know, he never let go. He even, anonymously, sent you flowers, like for your graduation… and on your first day on the job. ... and on all your birthdays. That was him.”

“Yeah, I figured that one, since he’s the only one who knows my real birthday,” she confessed with her gaze lost in a space in which only she alone had access.

“Whaat?! What does that even mean?”

“I’m sorry, it’s a long story. I promise I’ll tell you someday.”

“We have time now...” Amy pouted, fitting herself comfortably in her chair, staring intensely into Kara’s eyes.

Taken by surprise by her friend's sudden demanding attitude, she found herself hesitating.
