Two desks over, things were getting heated up, for some reason, as all the other colleagues were all gathered up - even Marta, who would usually be peeking at Dante.
“But this is not all,” Jeanine’s high-pitched voice came through. “I did some digging, and it looks like we have a Cojones serial. Alongside this case and the one in February, I found a similar case in Cluj, another one in Timisoara, both from last year, and another one in Vaslui, from three years ago. All by the same pattern: night, raining, a masked attacker, victims beaten up, and all of them with the balls crushed. The thing is, the victims were all charged for rape, but for various reasons, mostly because they were from wealthy families, they got away. These cases were so controversial that they were all over the news at the time.
“So, you’re saying we’re dealing with an avenger!”
“Yeah, but, in our case, the rape complaint was dropped,” said John the Snitch, thinking hard. “Hey, Kira! You’re the one who handled that Roman case, remember?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“In our new Cojones case, the victim is the same guy who was accused of rape a couple of weeks ago. That makes one wonder, doesn’t it?” added the drama king in action.
“Not really...” came the dry reply.
“Plus, that case wasn’t publicized. So where did the avenger get the intel?” continued instigating the Snitch.
“What are you suggesting, that it’s from inside?” said Marta appalled.
“It makes sense, I mean, think about it. The chick kicks men’s asses like a pro, she must be well trained...”
“A cop!!!”
“Cut the nonsense,” cut in Daniel with facts, as usual. “There were never any witnesses, only the depositions of the victims, which, from our experience, can be only bullshit.”
“Well, this victim claims he gave her a cut on the left arm while fighting back, with a lamp...Maybe if we check all the women in the station...”
“That would be illegal without a warrant and may I add, insulting to your fellow colleagues!” burst in Dante. “Ladies, if you ever need a good lawyer to defend you against these kinds of groundless accusations, here is my number,” he said gallantly, offering his business card to each of the ladies.
He then turned back to Kara, who was obviously amused by the whole scene:
“Pick you up at eight?”
“Yep.”
“Gentlemen, ladies” he saluted and took off.
