Adam walked into the shop with reluctance, the over the top attires and luxurious items making his eyes ache and his skin crawl. The light sound of a bell ringing was heard coming from the magical device above him, signaling to the employees that a customer had entered. His head was already starting to hurt from the money wasted. The owner could have bought a real bell, but chose to waste hundreds of gold coins for this useless device. It spoke loudly of his character.
Adam looked around the shop, the rich customers giving him side-eyes filled with disgust as his poorly-dressed self disturbed their peaceful oasis. The women covered their mouth with their colorful fan, whispering to each other, while the men humphed at him and stuck out their chest, roosters filled with nothing but boastfulness.
“Why does it suddenly smell like poorness? It seems like some dog didn’t know his place and walked somewhere unfitting for him.” A rich brat said before coming in front of him and blocking his path, his belly jiggling as he laughed like a pig, his underlings forcing themself to laugh along to his cringy insult. Adam quietly pondered on whether the brats those days were always embarrassing like this or if he was just unlucky.
The rich boy’s entire outfit screamed of money, jewels and gold ornamenting his sausage like fingers, chains after chains peeking out of his multiple chins. His unnatural blond hair styled like the most popular haircut were coming too short for his big head and showed off his sweaty forehead. The clothes on his arms and legs were puffed out and made him look like a ball. In short, he looked like a buffoon.
Adam simply bypassed him, not sparing him another glance and coming in front of the counter where an employee was seated, watching everything unfolding without helping. The young woman didn’t even bother lifting her eyes from her magazine, she was blatantly ignoring him.
Fed up with human’s attitude toward those who seemed weak, Adam raised his fist and unclenched it, letting out a few gold pieces on the table. The clear sound of gold coming into contact with wood seemed to wake up the people present. Shock could be seen on everyone’s face as the employee widened her eyes, not knowing what to say.
Coming from a poor-looking person like him, it was quite shocking to see gold coins in his possession, because it could only mean two things. He was rich, and thus was hiding his identity, which is highly unlikely because which noble in his right mind would disguise himself as a weak and poor person just to go shopping in a pricey store. The other option was that he was strong enough to be able to steal from the nobles. The nobles not only had themselves a high power rank, but they also possessed wealth able to buy high level security artifacts. He would have had to defeat the guards and break the artifacts.
Of course, Adam belonged to neither option, he was only an ostracized noble that got lucky enough to discover his heritage. However, the spectators didn’t need to know this, so he let their minds make up wild stories and proceeded to order an elegant attire, not over the top, for his family gathering. He wanted to appear strong and sophisticated to avoid criticism from his siblings, but not like a child in adult clothing like the young master who was currently fuming behind him from being ignored.
Adam hadn’t forgotten him. He was tired of being treated poorly, he wanted to take revenge, but he knew that making trouble in the shop would only lead to a date with a few policemen, and he wasn’t fond of men with such careers. People abiding by the law, when said law was decided by some selfish bastard with too much power in his hands, were completely irrational to him and without an ounce of critical thinking.
After having his measurements taken and his tastes noted, Adam left the store with his new clothes, but instead of going back to the mansion, he chose to hide in the nearest alley. He could see the rich pig throwing around his weight, literally and figuratively, screaming at employees and throwing a tantrum now that Adam had left, his courage renewed.
He waited until the rascals left the store and as they passed by his hiding place, Adam quickly struck. His foot came down in a low kick toward the brat’s knee, which then cracked and went the wrong way. The fatty crumbled to the floor in pain, his weight keeping his followers from helping him get up. They could only scream for help, holding their laughter from coming out, the chubby face of their lord squeezed in pain looking like a pressed lemon with snot coming out of his crooked nose and saliva dripping down his chin.
When help finally came, the culprit could not be identified, having been too quick and escaping when everything was chaotic. Later on, the prideful youngster was said to have offended the doctor who was treating him, making him take revenge by badly healing him, leaving the pig into a crippled state. The brat was never seen again after the event.
However, the culprit, a young knight with a goal in his mind, having accomplished his revenge, didn’t pay attention to the following matters. He had come back to his isolated living quarters and hung his attire at his door, before going to the knight’s training grounds to burrow a sword.
The robust men looked at him with disdain, talking about his doomed fate, making sure that he could hear everything they said. In the past, he would have reacted, would have been offended, screaming at them and trying to hit them, but now, he knew that he needed power or wealth to be able to do those things.
One day, maybe not in the near future, but one day for sure, he would get his revenge. Step by step, he would reach his goal. He may need to start with small fries, like he just did, then with stronger ones like the knights, and many others after, but someday, he would destroy the Salovski family and overthrow the whole hierarchy used since the Descent.
Taking a wooden sword in his hand, Adam headed toward his secret training place, clashing his weapon against the tree’s bark, expelling all his anger in each powerful strike and creating deep marks in the conifer.
No matter the means, he would succeed.
