The front half of the house exploded in a mighty ball of fire.

BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!

At the front of the house, around 20 people in black tactical military suits with weapons were firing at the almost destroyed residence. Suddenly, all fire dissipated, and in the middle of the destroyed house, a little dome made of two mighty fire wings could be seen.

Then the wings unwrapped revealing two figures inside of it. They were Seth and her mom. Mayla stood up as the fire wings dissipated, she had injuries all over her body, and her back was completely burned since she had used it to protect Seth. A sword could also be seen sheathed across her back.

"Mom! Are you alright?!" Seth asked seeing as he looked with fear at the injuries of his mom.

"Don't worry sweetheart, this is nothing" Mayla answered with a comforting smile. Then she looked at the soldiers with killing intent.

'That bomb wasn't normal, it shouldn't have got through my phoenix state. If I hadn't protected Seth with my own body... Tsk, I don't think they'll let us flee, I can sense more soldiers in the surroundings. Besides, if they want to kill us they must have sent espers on the Control stage. That means I can only hold on and protect Seth from the attacks until Michael gets here.' She thought all of this in only a second as she gritted her teeth. Then another round of gunshots started.

Meanwhile, in the city, a black figure could be seen dashing through the buildings at full speed. Lightning bolts could be seen moving around his body as he accelerated more.

'Fuck, how could I have let this happen, I was careless. C'mon Michael make it in time.' Michael thought while pushing his ability to its limit, his lightning turned purple as his eyes began to shine in a purplish color. Memories began to shoot through his mind.

"Beneath all the propaganda that the higher-ups sell to people, lies a dark truth. This world is nothing as they make it seem, we can't trust anyone and everybody is our enemy. Humankind is rotten to the core. So, let's promise trust and protect each other from now on." In front of Micheal stood a smiling young girl with tied red hair and brown eyes. This was Mayla. This was a memory from 13 years ago. At that time they were both 18 years old. Both of them were wearing black and red uniforms. Mayla had a sword sheathed across her back while Micheal had two katanas in his waist belt. They were on top of a skyscraper, the sun was setting down as the light from the sunset lit the scene. Michael only looked at Mayla.

"Just try to keep up with me," he said while smirking

"Huh, that's what I should be saying you were the one who took so long to reach my level," Mayla said as she smirked back.

They laughed then they looked into each other's eyes.

"We'll fight for each other, it's a promise," Michael said while smiling.

"It's a promise" Mayla also said as she smiled

'FUCK! This isn't enough speed. Even after all this time, I'm still lacking strength.' Michael thought while gritting his teeth as he remembered their promise.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BOOOOM! BANG! BANG! BOOOOM! BANG! BOOOOM! BANG! BANG! BOOOOOM!

More gunshots could be heard as Mayla dashed through the soldiers killing them, her control over her ability was absolute as she attacked the soldiers while protecting Seth from the gunshots at the same time. The soldiers tried with all their power to hit Mayla and Seth, some even tried to attack and defend with their abilities, however, it was senseless as Mayla quickly burned them down to ashes.

BANG!

As a gunshot was about to hit Seth, Mayla quickly turned and slashed with her sword at the incoming bullet, releasing a fire crescent that exploded when it came in contact with the soldier that had just fired it destroying everything in the surrounding 20 meters killing even more soldiers in the process.

BOOOOOOM! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Mayla quickly turned to her right as she sensed more bullets heading toward them. As she turned she raised her hand making a mighty wall of fire rise from the ground, stopping the bullets.

ROAR!

Then she slashed through it releasing another fire crescent to the soldiers behind it.

BOOOOOOOM!

Until now, Mayla had already killed around a hundred soldiers since more reinforcements had arrived since the beginning.

'These soldiers aren't the real threat, however, they are preventing us from fleeing, and are still making me use up my energy since I can't finish with one strike because I could hurt Seth. That only means their real objective is to hold us and exhaust me. Tsk, those bastards are even willing to send their soldiers on a suicide mission as cannon fodder.' Mayla thought as she gritted her teeth in fury. Then she slashed at another group of soldiers.

BOOOOOOOM!

Another minute passed and something changed. Mayla sensed another attack incoming, however, this one wasn't a bullet, it was a telekinetic wall that was coming down on her and Seth. Mayla quickly used her ability to strengthen her body.

BANG!

Mayla and the telekinetic wall clashed sending shockwaves into the surroundings. Mayla used some of her fire to protect Seth as she resisted the push of the force.

'Control stage esper... seems like they are finally showing themselves' She thought as she looked with killing intent at the source of the attack.
