Nash kept his eyes on the road as they drove back to Andrius's house, still feeling the tension from the encounter with Drake Blackwood.
After a few minutes of silence, Andrius spoke up.
"Are you bothered by what Drake said back there?" he asked, his voice low and even.
Nash briefly glanced at Andrius before returning his attention to the road.
"No, not really."
Andrius raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by Nash's response.
"Why not?"
Nash chuckled.
"Because when a bastard like Drake doubts my abilities, it's easier to punch him in the face. They never see what's coming."
Andrius let out a deep, rumbling laugh at Nash's comment.
"I can't say I disagree," he said with a faint smile.
Andrius's sudden burst of laughter surprised Nash. It was the first time he had seen the omega display any kind of emotion since they had met.
Nash couldn't help but smile a little, feeling a bit of the tension from the lunch start to dissipate.
"You know, you should smile more often," he blurted.
Andrius rolled his eyes, but the corner of his lips turned up just slightly. "Don't get used to it," he warned.
Nash chuckled, feeling a sense of relief that they could finally relax a little after the tense luncheon.
Nash felt more relaxed. Before, he was afraid that his new master would be squeamish and not easy to work with. However, although Andrius was a bit quiet, he wasn't someone hard to get along with.
Then, suddenly a grumbling noise startled Nash. He looked through the rear mirror. Andrius appeared to be calm, with a mysterious expression on his face. But his ears were... red?
'Was that noise his stomach?' Nash thought in shock. Now that he thought about it, he didn't see Andrius eat anything the whole morning nor did he touch any of the dishes at the luncheon.
But Nash knew that this young master was too proud to say anything.
Feeling bolder than usual, Nash spoke up.
"Boss, I didn't eat anything the whole day. Do you mind if we stopped somewhere?" he asked, hoping Andrius would agree. "I know a great place for Chinese food that's quite nearby."
Andrius stared silently at Nash for a couple of minutes, his expressionless face was unreadable. When Nash thought the omega would refuse, to his surprise, Andrius slowly nodded in agreement.
"Yes, I can't let my bodyguard go hungry." the omega said, clearing his throat.
Nash tried hard to contain a smile.
'My boss is so cute.' he thought.
Nash made a quick turn, leading them to a small restaurant. Despite its humble appearance, the place was clean and welcoming. The restaurant was run by a couple of Chinese immigrants who seemed to be on good terms with Nash, who greeted them with a smile.
"Hey, Mr. Jiang, Mrs. Jiang!" Nash said with a smile. "This is my friend Andrius. He's never tried your food before, so I had to bring him here."
Andrius nodded politely as the couple gave them a warm welcome and led them to an empty table and offered them the menus.
As they were seated, Andrius looked around skeptically. He wasn't used to going to such small, unassuming places. Nash experimentally started to order some dishes. When Nash asked his boss if there was anything he wanted, the blonde man just shrugged.
"You order it."
Unsure about what his boss liked, Nash ordered a bit of everything, wanting to make sure that Andrius found something he liked. The omega hadn't eaten all day, and Nash didn't want him to go hungry. From what he observed, the man would immediately resume working as soon as he went home and would forget to eat.
The dishes soon arrived.
Nash looked at Andrius, who sat in silence in front of the Chinese food they had ordered.
"Boss, you really should try some of this. It's amazing," he said, trying to convince the stoic man to at least give the food a chance.
Andrius raised an eyebrow, looking skeptically at the dishes on the table.
"I'm not hungry," he replied, his voice cold and distant as always.
Nash tried to coach him with a pleading voice.
"But I ordered so much, and it's really good. Please, boss, just try a little bit,"
Andrius hesitated for a moment, but then he picked up his chopsticks and took a small bite of the food. He expected the food to be mediocre at best. But to his surprise, the flavors exploded in his mouth, each dish a symphony of spices and textures that left him craving more.
He took another bite, then another, and soon he found himself eating more than he had intended.
"This is good," he said, surprised at himself for enjoying the food. "What is this dish?"
Nash smiled, glad that his boss was finally eating. "It's kung pao chicken. And that one over there is sweet and sour pork, one of my favorites. And that one is fried rice," he said, pointing to each dish.
Andrius nodded, his expression softening just a little bit.
"I see. It's not bad," he said, taking another bite of the food.
Nash grinned, feeling accomplished. "I knew you'd like it. You should try more of it," he said, happily scooping some more food onto Andrius' plate.
Andrius didn't protest, and soon they were both eating happily, enjoying the delicious food. It was a small moment of happiness in an otherwise tense and stressful day, but for Nash, it was enough to feel like he had made a difference, even if it was just by getting his boss to try some new food.
Little did they know, the events of that disastrous lunch would only be the beginning of the troubles that lay ahead for Andrius and his Omega bodyguard.
Author's note:I've been dying to try sweet and sour pork for quite some time. I've read about it in so many novels and it sounds absolutely delicious. If any of you guys have the recipe and wouldn't mind sharing it with me, I would be forever grateful!
