Shing!
Seth's surroundings changed as he used the teleportation ring.
'Two minutes...' Seth thought as he watched a giant digital clock displayed on the side of a skyscraper that marked 7:58 am. He began running again.
Seth slowed down as he arrived at a big gate. Above it, the name "Hyperion Academy" could be read. This was Seth's school, the third-ranked academy in Sunrise City and the top 25 world-ranked academy.

[The appearance of espers marked a new chapter in humanity's seek for power. The Abilities possessed by these individuals granted them a power that represented a threat to society, as shown by Humankind's Eclipse. One of the first problems the HSA had to face after its creation was crime. Crime had taken a completely new dimension because of the power of espers, and to face it, HSA operators had to be more powerful. But just this wouldn't solve the problem, espers had to be guided and educated so that they would use their abilities to contribute to society and not the opposite. Espers and non-espers would be separated into different classes, in addition to normal subjects, espers and non-espers would receive classes related to the functioning of espers' abilities while esper-only classes will also receive practical classes about how to control and use their abilities and how to progress in the stages. The level of education also took a gigantic jump since, in order to understand the functioning of the espers' abilities one needed to have the same level of education as a senior university student.
Furthermore, education not only became free and mandatory all around the world but at the beginning when poverty still existed, help was offered to those who needed it, this way everyone could have access to education. New jobs of all kinds that required espers' abilities to be done were also created by the HSA. And this way with the passing of the years the crime rate began dramatically shooting down.
As the importance of an esper's power became more and more important a new way of ranking academies had to be created since an academy's proficiency couldn't be measured by academic performance only anymore. The official academies' ranking now takes into account the capacity for academies to form not only proficient academic students but also powerful espers that will be helpful to society. It does so by analyzing the percentage of non-esper students that successfully integrate into a high-ranking university, and by analyzing the percentage of espers integrating high-ranked HSA jobs.]
[End of the record]
Ring! Ring! Ring!
The bell rang just as Seth entered the classroom.
"Good morning Mr. Parker," he said to his teacher.
"Good morning, seems you made it just in time, go take a seat" Mr. Parker answered while looking at his watch. "Now class, please open your books on page 256, today we will be making a quick review on general relativity for the upcoming exam".
"You okay dude? You look tired" whispered the red-haired boy sitting next to Seth.
"Yeah, I just had a bad dream, don't worry" Seth answered.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
After two hours the bell rang indicating the ending of the first class. Everyone began packing their things and heading toward the next class.
"Dude I swear relativistic physics class is way too boring," said the red-haired boy as he stretched in his chair. "I almost fell asleep during the second half"
"Jake, you know I can hear you right?" said Mr. Parker from the front of the class.
Jake stiffened in his chair.
"Of course teach, I was just saying that I can't believe how there are people who can say that about your class," said Jake as he turned to Mr. Parker with a nervous smile. Seth only chuckled from the side.
After packing their stuff Jake and Seth left the classroom and headed for the academy's gym.
"Mr. Parker's sound-related ability is too unfair, we can't complain when he is in the same room," Jake said while he walked, suddenly his face went pale "You don't think he can hear everything in school do you Seth?" he turned to Seth who was walking by his side.
"Hmmm, I don't know. He is a manipulation stage esper so he shouldn't have that kind of range since the academy is gigantic, but he should be able to hear everything within the same building and a bit more" Seth answered thoughtfully.
"Oh, dude I hope he wasn't in the same building as him when I said some things," Jake said with a nervous look. "Anyway, what kind of dream did you have? It looks as if you didn't get any sleep at all."
"I just dreamed of that night. Which is weird since I haven't dreamed of it for a long time. Not only that but this time it was... different" Seth answered.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"It's just... at one point I felt like I had my ability and my father was telling me something. And I know that's impossible since I haven't awakened my ability yet, but still... it felt so real" Seth said as he tried to remember what he felt during the dream.
"That's weird..." Jake said with a thoughtful "Do you remember what kind of ability you had in your dream?" he asked
"I'm not sure. I remember seeing lightning bolts but that's similar to my father's ability so I'm not sure if the lightning bolts were mine or theirs. And then I woke up"
"Okay, let's try it out, try to activate your ability"
"What?"
"I mean, maybe you just had a discrete and timid awakening and you actually awakened your ability while you slept"
"But..."
"Just do it"
"Okay," Seth said reluctantly then he closed his eyes and focused on himself, trying to feel what he felt in the dream. After a minute nothing happened and Seth opened his eyes again. "Seems like it's not that. Now let's get going or we're gonna be late for combat class" Seth said as he began walking again.
"For a moment I got excited," Jake said as he also began walking.
