Aithne Pov~
I screamed.
I ran towards the cliff, ready to dive in after Ayan, but Darius caught me around the waist.
I scream in a mixture of terror and fury. “Let me go!” I fight against his hold. “Let me go!! I need to save him!!”
“Let him go. You don't need him. You have me!” Darius whispered harshly in my ear.
I snapped my head to him in disbelief.
Red-hot anger flashes through me, and a sneer takes over my face. “You have lost your mind.”
Not giving him time to react, I headbutt him and relish the satisfying crunching sound of his nose breaking. Blood sprayed on my face. I didn’t care. Darius cursed and stumbled back, clenching his nose.
Not wasting my opportunity, I ran towards the cliff and dived off of it.
The water was freezing, but I didn’t care. I came up for air, scanning for water for Ayan.
“Ayan! Ayan!” I shout as loud as possible through the rushing water.
“Ayan!”
I continue calling and searching, flowing the current. Panic started to take me whole I couldn’t find him.
What if he sunk to the bottom? What if he passes out when he fell? I don’t know how long he has been out or if he can even hold his breath. Oh god, oh god, oh god,
“Ayan!” I scream and turn, looking in the other direction. When I did, another wave of fear came over me as a huge wave crashed and swiped me under.
The current overtook my body, and I tumbled and flipped, succumbing to whatever the ocean had planned for me.
I was coughing up water on a broken tree log when I came up. I took in [ gasping breath coughing up bits of water.
“A..ay.Ayan.” I tried.
I looked left to right before diving back into the water. I swam for what felt like an eternity, screaming ayan’s name and looking in every possible direction.
I search and search.
Tears of frustration and hopelessness poured down my face. They mixed with salt river water splashing on my skin. I needed to find him. I had to. I would die trying.
I screamed in pure desperation and swam down the river bank. Fighting against twists and turns and whatever else lay in my path. But after another tumble underwater, a damn-like structure appeared further down. A patch of land at the end of it signals the river’s end.
A spark of hope flickered in my chest, and I swam faster toward something lying off the side of it.
“Ayan!” I reached for his body when I got closer. I used the last bit of strength I had to pull him out of the water and onto land.
I began mouth to mouth and chest, not leaving anything to chance. I don’t know how long he’s been like this.
I trusted my instincts; they were right because he coughed up water soon after.
“Baby,” my voice was clogged with tears. The relief that I finally found him came crashing down.
Overcome with emotions; I pull him forward in a hug. My body trembled as I hugged him close. “I thought I lost you.”
“N..nev..er.”

I don’t think aithne realizes it yet, but our bond clicked into place, and her side of the link sang in pain.
It almost consumes me.
Angoy, relief, and physical and mental pain ripped through me, but I welcomed it.
It told me she cared that she came for me. For me.
“You came after me.’ I could only muster a whisper, for my throat felt like it had been in a garbage disposal.
She squeezed me tighter, and I winced. “Always.”
That was all that was said for a while. I savored her body up against mine. I relished in it. Nut all too soon, the pain started to awaken all over my body, and I could resist the cry when she squeezed me again.
She gasped and quickly released me. She gently laid me back on the ground. “I’m so–”
“No, don’t be sorry. Please, “I said, pleading towards the end. Thus it wasn't her fault. What happened wasn’t her fault. “This wasn’t your fault.”
My heart sank at the flash of guilt in her eyes. “Don’t do that,” I said. “ you didn’t do this. You pushed me off the cliff; Darius did.”
White hot rage I knew wasn’t mine came over me, and aithne growled in fury. Her eyes flashed between gold and the beautiful honey brown I’d grown accustomed to.
“Yes,” I said, making her look toward me. “Focus all the guilt and anger on Darius, not yourself, because he causes this, not you.”
I grabbed her face. “Focus all of it on him because I will not let direct it anywhere else.”
She stares at me. Gold and brown war flashed in her eyes until my beautiful honey brown finally won and reluctantly nodded.
A look I could figure out came across her face and her head titled. “You’re..you’re in pain,” she said slowly. “I can feel it.”
I could feel her confusion about the bond, so I went to explain. “You feel it now, huh? That’s our bond.”
Her eyes widened. “So soon?”
“I’d say right on time,” I said light-heartedly, or at least tried to. “Our bond would have happened sooner rather than later because you are an alpha.” I continued. “But a traumatic situation with mates sometimes speeds up the process.”
“Oh.”
“It’s probably why….” I hesitated.
“Tell me,” she ordered.
“Why Darius tried to kill me to stop the bond from processing further”
“When I get my hands on him..” a shiver ran down my spine at the venom-filled promise.
“Could you even kill him?” I asked. “I mean, he's part of the alpha triad. Would the pack survive if you did?”
My line of questions was met with silence.
“It won’t matter because, in the end, a pack won’t stand a leader they can’t trust, and today Darius has shown he can’t be trusted.”
Tears filled my vision. I almost died today. I almost died. A sob busted from my throat. All over, my emotions spilled out, and I could do nothing to stop it.
“I..I saw my..m..my– life flash before– before— my eyee..ees when he pu..pushed me. I…I” I could barely get the words out.
“He almost killed me had not been for you.” I look at my mate through waterly eyes to her like mine.
“I’m so sorry.” was all she could say.
She pulled back against her–gently but firmly enough that I felt protected.
‘I promised you I will protect you. I give my life before he ever hurts you again.”
We sat there in each other arms.
Breaking and mending each other in the hopes of being whole again.
And who knows how long that would be..

Unknown- Now get it done.
The male tucks his phone into his pocket. “Silly, silly boy, where have you gone?” The male sang. “The itsy-bitsy spider went up the waterspout, came in the rain, and washed the spider out.”
A fake smile danced on the male's face as he walked on the pavement, destination unknown, but that didn't matter because his target kept his mind occupied.
“If you want something done, you must do it yourself.”
