In 2035 AD, the entire world was met with catastrophe. An asteroid from the asteroid belt, about 5 miles in diameter, smashed into the Atlantic Ocean. The ensuing earthquake caused by this hunk of rock and iron caused the entire north and south american continents to move toward Asia, Europe to compact together, and Africa to spin and destroy India. Over the next few months, society crumbled as it realized its bleak fate; the Americas were hurtling toward Asia and Oceania at such a speed that most of humanity was likely to be destroyed. When the event finally came to pass, almost every island in the pacific ocean was completely obliterated, Japan was sandwiched between China and the United States, Australia was crushed by South America, and more than seven billion people lost their lives. The destruction was unprecedented, and as most governments had been overthrown during the time leading to this disaster, there was no way to stop what happened next.
Humans did as humans do, they fought, scavenged, killed, and survived. After decades of post-apocalyptic survival, the remaining humans, through a series of treaties, formed a government and began to rebuild. Rather than recreate any specific country, these humans decided to build a completely new city. Over the next century and a half, humanity built a metropolis in the center of the ravaged supercontinent. The few hundred million people that were left built the city of Genesis.
Along with this city, science began to evolve rapidly. Flying cars, body modifications to help with tasks, and holograms became commonplace. Now that the human race had a shared goal, the people worked together to advance to new heights. In the end, a shining, futuristic city, built on the blood, sweat, and tears of all humanity was formed.
Of course, the human condition cannot be beaten, and so as the humans moved into this city, crime rates skyrocketed. There were no police, and the government that was formed by the remnants of society was volatile at its best, and corrupt at its worst. Thankfully, this problem was realized and a new government was put into place. This new government decided to rebuild the law from the ground up, studying the old ways of countries before them, and creating a constitution loosely based around that of the United States. It also created a new calendar, with the first year being the year after the disaster, which was aptly titled The Fall. Every year that preceded the Fall was labeled BF, or before The Fall, and the modern era was AF, or after The Fall. The year this new government was founded was 237 AF.
Even with the new government in place, crime still ran rampant. No matter what disasters hit the earth, human nature could not be changed. Because of this, vigilantism began to grow in popularity. One such organization was The Nest. Nest Operatives, whose codenames were all different species of bird, would go out and kill criminals. They would use a variety of weaponry and body modifications to dispatch their foes and generally worked toward the betterment of humanity and Genesis. How do I have so much information on this group, you might be asking yourself? Well, that would be because I’m one of them.
