Note: This chapter is in Cassians pov I froze as I saw the man with a gun to Gabriels head. The man from the cafe.

“This a mafia guy, already?” I attempted to fake confidence, drastically failing.

“Detective, actually.” The man corrected.

“So, you’re here to arrest me and probably send him back to his family?” Gabriel’s voice was surprisingly calm, if he was panicking he sure was good at hiding it. I guess he is an assassin, he’s probably used to things like this.

“Not necessarily.”

“Then what?” I caught some hostility in his voice, by the way he tightened his grip on the gun, it seems the detective noticed too.

“You two might be useful to me.”

“Useful how?” I questioned.

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Hey. Who said there is a later?” Gabriel glared at him.

“Me?” He breathed a laugh.

“You can’t make us talk to you-”

“If you don’t you’re going to prison and he’s going back to his family.” He sighed. “I really hope you do choose the best option.”

“Best option for us or best option for you?” He sighed. “Because those are two completely different things.”

“You’d be surprised.” He removed the gun from Gabriels head, holding it to his side.

“What’s the other option?” I asked.

“You help me.”

I paused for a moment. What could a capable-looking detective need from a couple of kids, even if one of them was an assassin and the other had information on my family? Oh.. I looked up. “What’s in it for us?”

“Hmm.. I don’t know, protection, money, shelter, a happy future? Basically everything you don’t have right now.” He sat down next to Gabriel, Gabriel gave him a look.

“How do we know we can trust you?” Gabriel questioned.

“Maybe the fact if I wanted to hurt you or arrest you I could’ve by now? I did have the option to shoot you in the head and decided not to. I dunno.”

“Why don’t we just trust him and if he tries anything you can kill him?” I lifted my leg up, resting it on my other leg and started fiddling with my shoelace. “You are an assassin after all.”

“I’d agree to that.” The detective man smiled.

“Alright. Alright, then.” Gabriel paused. “What is your name, anyway?”

“Leondre.. Aleph.” I flinched. Leondre looked at me.

“What?” Panic rose in my chest, I felt sick.

“Why’d you flinch?” His expression was caring, it was probably fake though. I bet he’s thinking about how weird I probably am.

“N-nothing.” I looked the other way.

“Okay..” He sighed.

Gabriel was giving him a hostile look.

“What?” Leondre breathed a laugh.

“Don’t worry.” He sighed, shaking his head. 

Leondre looked at him sceptically for a moment. “Well, we should probably go then. Train’s about to stop.”

“Alright.” Gabriel replied, looking at me.

“O-Okay.” I breathed deeply, trying to calm down.

We walked to the doors, Leondre was in front and Gabriel was next to me.

“So, where are we going?” I started.

“Uhh, probably a hotel or something until I get a place sorted out.” He sighed.

There was a loud bang in the distance, followed by the sound of something collapsing. I jumped, looking around. I just caught a glimpse of something tall crumpling to the ground before it fell out of view.

“Shit.” Leondre started running in the direction of the building.

“Hey, wait!” Gabriel started chasing after him. 

I wanted to run the other way but something inside me said I had no choice but to follow.
