Sleep was not a kind mistress to Ethel that night.
She sat leaning against the wall on the great bed her late father had made.
Genève, her partner in both work and life, slept peacefully beside her. Ethel admired the younger woman’s beautiful form.
She had known her since they were children, and
perhaps was even in love with her since then.
Though she realised that much
later, when they were old enough to experience what love could mean in a more
tangible way.
She couldn’t live without Genève for even a single day.
