Silence sliced through the chilled air as darkness slowly enshrouded the small bedroom. Slowly dripping down from the corners of the walls, like thick globs of ink, it pooled upon the wooden floors, creeping ever closer to her. Slithering through the cracks of the floorboards and up and in between the patterns of her quilted duvet, it soon wrapped around her small throat...suffocating her.
Gasping, Cecilia's eyes snapped open as she was soon greeted by the creaking trusses above. They were cast in shadow as the immense wooden structures seemed to pop and groan amidst the frosty air. And for a moment, Cecilia feared they would collapse, crushing her. Soon, the sights and sounds of heavy wooden beams cracking and splitting in half appeared in her mind's eye...the sudden weight of her bones shattering upon impact... Closing her eyes, she listened to her heartbeat as it thrummed deep within her ears as she tried her best to calm her nerves.
Yet, lying there in the shadows... with her thoughts racing... her heart beating hard in her chest...it was difficult to do so. And she wondered... how long had she slept? Taking in a shaky breath, she opened her eyes... And that is when she saw it. There, at the end of the bed... was a hand... Gnarled and emaciated, its old, decaying skin was pulled taught about its bones like a drum, while its long fingers reached out...Its sharp, stained nails extended...did she feel a cold terror flood her body...Surely this couldn't be real! It couldn't! Hearing its joints twist and contort, she saw another pale hand appear. Then, two more hands as they clawed their way up on the bed! This being had four limbs!? Her eyes grew wide with horror as she watched as the entity used its sharp nails to rip deep into the fabric of her bedding as it dragged its torso up onto the bed, its long, shaggy head hanging low, limply swaying as if broken.
Feeling cold sweat drip down the side of her face, Cecilia tried to bolt upright-to move, to run, yet...why couldn't she move?! Heart thudding hard against her rib cage, she began to struggle but found herself frozen in place. Even moving her head was an ordeal! Everything felt so heavy! Lying there, she willed herself to shout, to scream, to cry out...but when she opened her mouth...nothing...only small gasps escaped past her lips... She was helpless...
All she could do was watch as the spider-like creature slowly crawled towards her. Its long, four limbs cracked and popped as it got closer and closer; its wild, light brown hair hid its features, its face but a breath away from hers. And just as tears began pricking at the corner of Cecilia's eyes... In a blur, the hag-like being seized hold of her head! A hot, blinding pain shot behind Cecilia's cranium as the creature's sharp nails punctured her skull! With a loud series of pops, it gradually unhinged its jaw...and with it came an inhuman scream, unlike anything she had heard before. It started out low, then increased in pitch till it was so high her ears began ringing... warm blood dripped outside Cecilia's ears as she felt her eyes start to roll back in their sockets... until darkness, like a shroud, suffocated her…
