Getting out of bed I could still feel how tense I had gotten from the night before. It got worse when I opened my bedroom door.
"Morning Sunshine!" Faye grinned wide from where she had made a mess of my kitchen trying to cook something that might have once been a pancake.
"You slept in later than I expected." Alric added not even looking up from where he was fiddling with the equipment he must have brought with him last night. It looked like a potions shop and a kitchen had been smashed into each other leaving debris everywhere.
"It took me a while to work out what to do with what you had written." I sighed flopping onto a seat and being handed a plate of food.
"What was written on the paper?" Alric gave me his full attention.
"You wrote it so shouldn't you know?"
He waved my question away. "Just answer me."
"Three steps. Wolf, pen, write... Look i'll just show it to you for the exact wording."
I patted my pockets but there was nothing there. Not even the pen remained except for the stains.
"Damn! It better not be staining my bed." I grumbled as I got up and went back to the bedroom.
Alric stood watching with his arms crossed as I tossed bedsheets and pillows onto the floor. Still no success.
"Where's it gone?" I sighed flumping down onto my messy bed.
"With the Wolf." Alric answered. He flopped beside me patting a pocketed shoulder. "I took magic readings while whatever happened. I can't say if the wolf is really just a wolf but you are going somewhere else when you sleep."
There was nothing I could think to say. I had obviously thought it wasn't just a dream, yet having it confirmed was something else.
Faye popped through the door at that point. "So what did you write then?"
Uh oh. What had I written? All I could remember right now were the words 'Find me'.
Poppy's life is simple. She works as a Librarian at an Arcane University, lives alone in a small flat and sometimes goes out drinking with her friends.
There is absolutely nothing special about her.
So why every night for the past month has she woken in the middle of the night in a giant wolf's embrace? Is it just a weird dream? Or is something else going on?
