The roaring sounds of massive thrusters filled the hollow dark void of the maintenance room. The scattered screw bolts trembled from the intensity of the ship’s thrusters. Ava sat there alone, wearing a white tunic with her mask set aside right beside her. Her hands tucked within each other as her eyes gazed into the chrome railed floors of the room.
“All personnel, prepare for arrival to terra fall.” The echoing sounds of chatter played through the ship’s alert system caught Ava’s dreamy senses. She remained for a moment before someone else joined her solitude.
“Nervous much?” A man in a similar white tunic approached her from behind.
“Aren’t you?” She replied softly, not turning her head.
“We’ve been through a lot together. This is a win we deserve. A win we should enjoy.” He rested his hand onto her shoulder. Ava closed her eyes as she grabbed his hand gently.
She turned slowly as she stood up to her feet.
“I never lost faith…” her eyes connected with him.
Ryan gazed into her blue eyes as they stared at each other for a moment. A romantic tension grew before Ryan spoke.
“Thanks to you, neither did I.” They both smiled at each other, admiring one another like it was their first time falling for love.
“There’s a sweet view that can help lighten your mood.” Ryan spoke softly.
She gave a gentle nod before both of them walked out of the dusty room.

“There’s those two love birds.” Ajay shouted out as his legs rested on a table. His hands toying with a personal electronic device.
Ryan and Ava walked into the bridge, where the others were standing. Ava frowned at an instant as she was greeted with clouded panels right at the bridge’s windows.
“You call this a view?” She raised a brow, turning to Ryan.
“Relax, Ajay said his detour will be worth it. Right?” He turned to Ajay.
“Give it a moment will ya? Never lose trust in my decisions.”
The clouds slowly faded as the planet’s terrain grew more visible. They were sozzled as their first sight was…fireworks.
The ship, alongside the colonial fleet of The New Allegiance, followed Ajay’s detour through New York. They were stunned to see fireworks and smoke launched into the sky in unison. It felt celebratory. It felt…free. The ships flew through the skies as cheers filled the mundane streets of the city. It felt like a global victory for Earth. For everyone.
“Fuck me, looks like Independance day down there.” Kal commented.
Destoria’s eyes watered as she looked down at the bright city atmosphere.
Right as they savoured the warm welcome from their home, military jets hovered up to the sky, flying right beside their ship.
“Nevastar, this is escort Phoenix and Flock Squadron. We will be ensuring your safe transfer to the West Coast headquarters and a formal welcome from the United States Military. Please respond.” A voice called out to them from their comms.
“Head Operator Shrader to Phoenix. We read you. Thanks for the effort bud. Handing over ship command to uh…Head Operator Lou.” He turned to the rest.
“Well, it’s been fun but I reckon you can handle the greasy handshakes and press.” Ajay stood up from his seat.
“Where are you going?” Ryan asked with mild concern.
“Sweden, and then Hong Kong. Gotta send her to the Swedish Intergalactic HQ to possibly speed up Athena’s recovery. Hong Kong is mainly just for security reasons. Admiral Eclion might’ve left a battalion or two here to scare us.”
“Thanks, Ajay.” Destoria hugged Ajay right before he walked out.
“We have a job to do now.” Ryan subtly spoke out, catching the other’s attention.
“We have the upper hand now. The favour of this war is in our court. Home is now our front. For now, we rebuild. We protect. Most importantly, we cherish. We…didn’t get any time these past few years to live life. An opportunity as grand as that may seem lost for people like us but…it is a price we must pay. Perhaps, this could be a moment in our journey where we take a breather to catch up with what we’ve missed. Time to…rebuild relationships.”
Their ship descended into dark clouds as the room’s computer systems became the only source of light, all of which only shining on them.
“Mourn…or even love. We all deserve time to ourselves. Give ourselves purpose to fight again. At this moment, it is our turn to fight back.”
He turned slowly to Ava.
“This will be our awakening.”
