Midnight.
Lievpad is in his bed, listening to music. He reached his hand out towards the wooden ceiling. In his headphones, the song "No Surprises" could be heard.
"Why?" he asked himself. "Why can't I be like all of them? Why can't I be strong? I'm his grandson, so why do I not have a Singularity?" he asked out loud, but no one was there to answer him. "Why is he the cool one? What did he do to deserve that?"
Leon stood near the door, listening.
"I want to be strong. I want to be the strongest."
He put his headphones and phone on the floor, covering himself with the duvet.
"Lievpad..." his grandpa thought, looking at him from the gap in the door. "You don't have to have a Singularity to be unique. You can be strong the way you are. You're... a human. Don't ever forget what humans can achieve." he thought.
The next day.
Leon Peninta got a report from the police about a potential RISK attack. Using the Aerozola (his air powers), he managed to quickly find himself in Buenos Aires.
"Why is this happening?" he asked one of the police members.
"From what we already investigated..." the policeman flipped the pages. "There are SYSTA workers on the inside!"
"Damn it! I hope it's not my son, then!" Leon stepped back, extending his arms backwards.
"Wait, Elemento!" The other police officer stepped in. "Are you going in without a plan?"
"I already have one in mind," he responded, before disappearing in a flash. The fires which appeared from beneath his ankles, extended into a big line, which carried him upwards, right towards the top of the building. At that moment, he dived into one of the windows, rolling inside. "I know Ali doesn't work here, but even if it's SYSTA, it could easily be someone involved." he thought, looking around. "That guy..!" he ran up to a man in a suit, grabbing him by his hand. "...I know he's from SYSTA." he ran towards the staircase, as an explosion happened from downstairs. "Wait, what?"
"THERE ARE TERRORISTS INSIDE THE BUILDING!!!" Someone yelled from below.
"I anticipated that, though!" he threw the SYSTA worker through the broken window, as the Aerozola stopped him from falling, allowing for calm descent. "There's at least one more here!" said Leon. "On the floors below..."
All SYSTA workers had an attached emblem to their suits, which sent off signals to people with Singularities. The emblem was created using a part of Leon's Singularity Energy.
Leon descended onto the floor below. "Is this a RISK attack..?"
A firewall blocked his way. He put both of his arms up, creating a water stream from the tip of his fingers. He jumped in, bringing the other one.
"The fire is spreading..." Leon noticed.
"Aah! AAA!" The SYSTA worker pointed up, as part of the floor from above was shaking, about to fall.
In a moment, the ground around Leon moved, forming an arch above the two. It stopped the piece of flooring, but some of it went through, hitting Leon's arm. Leon ground his teeth.
"The other people..?" asked Leon.
"They're below..." the worker answered. "These two floors were for us..."
"Then that explains why they're so small, then!" he smiled lightly, standing up. "Don't worry! I'll get everyone out of here!" The man was holding onto Leon's shoulder, hopeful.
Leon squinted his eyes in pain.
"Oi, Elemento." A man's voice could be heard from behind. "Don't put too much pressure on yourself, oldie."
"Aina..!" Leon exclaimed, turning around, as a man with navy blue hair and a beard spoke, cracking his knuckles.
"Just call me Yaku, geezer," he smirked. Leon let go of the worker, allowing him to step towards Yaku. "Let me steal the spotlight for a moment," he added. Leon nodded.
In a flash, the two teleported away from the building. "Huh? Huh?" The SYSTA worker appeared confused.
"Teleportation. That's my Singularity." Aina added, stepping away, and lighting a cigarette. "It's nothing amazingly strong, that's why I worked my way out to become like this," he added.
"Huh..." the worker breathed out, as Yaku began running to his right. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"I wouldn't be calling myself his partner if I never helped him in situations like these..!" thought Yaku. "Besides, this building's about to crumble!"
The ground shifted below Leon, as he fell to the floor below. He quickly looked to his left, and then right, seeing a person who held a circular object in their hand. "You..." he muttered, leaping forwards, kicking him in the face.
The person fell to the ground, unconscious, as about ten people curled up in the corner, and raised their voices. Leon breathed in and out, clenching his fist.
The object that was in the person's hands started creating a cloud of smoke around the area. Leon coughed, jumping towards the others.
The other person, wearing a striped, black mask went up the stairs, grinning, ready to strike.
"Yo!" Aina's voice echoed, as he appeared behind him, punching his face. "Elemento! There's no one else below us, but the building is about to fall!"
The ground shook, and as Leon had trouble keeping balance, he ground his teeth, looking down.
"But... but..." an employee's voice caught the attention of Leon, as he talked with the other worker.
"You'll be fine, Elemento will get us out of this..!" she shook his hand.
"My mum... my dad... if I die here, I won't ever see them again..." he grabbed onto his hair, panicked.
Elemento looked at the two, curiously.
Then, he squinted his eyes, turning around. "Yaku!" he raised his voice. "Bring them out of the building. I'll buy us time, making sure it won't fall down!"
Yaku nodded, as Leon sighed, running forwards. He jumped out through the smashed window, seeing smoke from the bottom of the building. "It got that bad? Shit..." he bounced off the air, as if it was a wall, running up the building for a moment. "If I won't save the day now, how can I guarantee that the rest of them sees the light of tomorrow?"
The fire was created beneath his feet, allowing him to dash forwards. He created a stream of water.
The building started bending around the 2nd floor as if it was cut by a knife. "I can't allow that! They're all innocent. People don't think that something like this is going to happen to them! They don't deserve this!" he ground his teeth, angrily.
Leon bounced off, jumping from the ground, holding onto the ground he ripped out. He moved his hand towards the openings in the building, pushing water onto the dirt which kept appearing, sealing the massive wound.
He took one last deep breath, before flying upwards, spinning around in a fiery circle and dashing towards the ground.
For a moment, he fainted.
When Leon woke up, more police cars were surrounding them. Yaku held onto Leon's hand, as the two walked forwards.
"You did it again, crazy bastard..." muttered Yaku. "Don't push yourself that far, okay? I can always help you with other stuff."
"You did great, Yaku... probably better than me," he added.
"Don't say that-"
All of a sudden, Leon collapsed, but Yaku managed to hold his hand.
"Elemento..." muttered Aina.
"I can't... just give up," he mumbled. "I can't stop pushing myself. If I wasn't here, who would save all of these people if it weren't us? I can't just... retire, Yaku." he slowly closed his eyes. "For everyone, and for my family..." he thought.
Yaku put his hand on Leon's back, reassuringly. Leon squeezed the material of Yaku's jacket.
"My mum... my dad... if I die here, I won't ever see them again..." he grabbed onto his hair, panicked.
"I perfectly know who that reminded me of..." thought Leon.
Nearing the end of February, summer break was coming to a close. The 15-year-old Lievpad spent most of his time slacking around on the farm instead of doing work. Besides ploughing the field, he also had to take care of the house and the different animals Leon had.
During that time he didn't do anything, he sat around, staring at nothing with empty eyes and a never-changing expression on his face. Once, he sat by a lake, the other, he spent his time in the forest, thinking.
On the 25th of February, 2028, Lievpad was on the train, on his way back to Buenos Aires, as the new school year was about to begin.
The wagon was empty again. Lievpad put on his headphones and closed his eyes, laying on the three seats next to him.
A sunny afternoon.
At that time, Lievpad was only 5-years old, spending most of his time playing with toys or drawing pictures on sheets of paper his mum bought. His dad was at work, but wasn't an absent figure in his life, at that time.
When it was warmer, Lievpad usually played volleyball with a kid that was four years older than him. No matter how much he outclassed him, Lievpad didn't give up. He promised him one day that he would beat him.
The event that happened afterwards, couldn't be predicted.
Lievpad was in his house, doing nothing in particular. He stood up from the floor and went over to his parent's bedroom, seeing his mum on her bed, sleeping.
"Mum..." he grabbed her finger, moving her arm around. "Mum... I'm hungry..." he muttered. "Mum, stop sleeping. I'm hungry."
He jumped onto the bed, moving her arm around. His mother didn't wake up, He looked at her blonde hair, then he sat next to her. "Won't you wake up already..." he mumbled.
Unbeknownst to him, his mother forgot to turn off the stove, after cooking him a meal beforehand.
After sitting for a bit, Lievpad climbed out of bed. He walked to the kitchen, hearing sizzling. He climbed up a chair he brought over, reaching his hand out, curiously.
Then, he cried. He burned the palm of his hand on the stove. Whilst crying, he kicked the cooker, somehow turning it off. He slowly stood up, a mess of tears, and walked towards his mother's bedroom.
"Mommy... mommy... it hurts..." he cried. "MUM!" he yelled. "MUM! PLEASE, WAKE UP!" he screamed. "It hurts! It hurts!"
