Lievpad's mother was already dead from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Lievpad was unaware, however. He didn't know how to deal with the pain. It was burning, his hand was still hot. It was bleeding. Lievpad didn't like blood. The pain was making his head dizzy.
Still crying, sobbing and weeping, he opened the balcony door, looking out. "Mummy..!" he yelled. "MUMMY!"
His flat was on the 10th floor.
He grabbed onto the railing, climbing it. He was in danger of falling. "Mom... mommy..."
Fortunately, someone from below noticed, calling the right authorities.
After an hour, Lievpad, Ali and Leon were at the hospital. Lievpad's hand was wrapped around tightly in a bandage.
"I drove... all the way here. My daughter..." Leon was teary-eyed, putting his hand on the door to the room Lievpad's mother was in.
Lievpad was shaking, terrified.
Ali covered his eyes with his hand, before looking at Lievpad. "...why?" he calmly asked. "WHY?!" he yelled at Lievpad, who stood up, backing away.
"Why didn't you do anything..?" he asked, slowly walking forwards. "You fucking problem child..."
"Ali, this isn't..." Leon spoke.
"SHUT UP!" yelled Ali. "I thought we taught you that if anything happened, you are to call an ambulance or the police right away, huh?! Or are you this dense to not understand that?! If you did something earlier, maybe... maybe none of this would have ever happened!" he raised his voice. "She's as good as dead, and you burned your... fucking hand!" he put his hand on the bandage, squeezing it.
"AAAH!" Lievpad screamed in pain.
"HUH?! DOES IT HURT?! DO YOU FEEL WHAT I FEEL NOW?! You're so... weak..." he dropped Lievpad onto the floor, walking away, as he began crying again.
Lievpad opened his eyes, slowly. The sounds of the train moving on the rails were drowned out by the song playing on his headphones. "Heroes" by David Bowie.
He sat up, looking at the scar on his hand. "I don't want to remember," he said out loud. He clenched his hand, breathing heavily.
At that time, the train arrived at the main station in Buenos Aires. The doors opened, and the light blinded Lievpad for a moment. He moved his hands from his eyes, as his vision got back to normal.
He saw a television screen, as an interview was being held with a man named Milagro Lucius. It was about the Erra Singularity School.
Lievpad stood up, putting his hand on his luggage and walking forwards.
The sun has already set, as the only lights surrounding Lievpad were street lamps, and screens on the big buildings in the city.
He kept walking, looking at the ground.
"Argentina became nothing more than a Singularity based paradise," he said to himself. "Everywhere I go, I have to be reminded." he looked to his right, seeing a statue of Elemento. "In this world of ones and zeros, why do I have to be the latter?" he asked himself but didn't find an answer.
The water reflected many of the blinding lights which shined from the buildings, which once weren't as flashy as before. "If I had a singularity back then, would I be strong enough to help my mother? I wasn't strong enough to do anything, to think. Grandpa called dad irrational, but... I don't think it was his fault." he kept whispering to himself. "If I was just stronger at that moment, I wouldn't be living a life like this, constantly stepping under someone's shadow."
Lievpad made it to Puente de la Mujer, slowly walking forwards. "I want to be strong. I want to be the strongest." he stopped, looking forwards.
At that moment, it seemed like he saw something in the distance. His eyes widened, and he opened his mouth slightly. But no one was there.
Lievpad kept walking forwards.
He soon found himself near the block of flats he and his father used to live, however, Ali slept in a different house, which meant Lievpad was on his own now. However, he didn't feel like going inside just yet. He left his luggage at the doorstep and walked down to the street.
He made it to Plaza Mariano Moreno, sitting on one of the benches.
He looked up into the sky, as nine different stars shined simultaneously. Lievpad breathed out. He then turned his glance towards the playground not far from him. He remembered something at that moment.
"Pif, paf!" Kohei reached his hands out.
"Woa!" Lievpad backed away, falling onto the ground. "You won again, Kohei!" he raised his voice. "Shot me in the chest again!"
"Lievpad, we've been playing fictional cowboys for way too long now... most kids already went home." he looked around.
"Don't worry, Kohei!" he added, standing up again. "It's good even if it's just the two of us!"
"Huh?" Lievpad walked up to Kohei, putting his hand on his arms.
"I won't give up until I beat you. I'll draw my finger pistol faster than you, proving I am as great of a cowboy as you are!"
"Well, I think that for someone who hasn't played this game before... you're already really good!" added Kohei.
"Then I won't stop until I'm even better!"
Lievpad stood up, opening the gate to the playground. "I remember..." he added. "I played with the neighbour's kid all the time. Even if it was just the two of us, we always found a way to have fun. I miss that." he said.
There was no one else on the Plaza except Lievpad, until now.
"L-Lievpad?" a familiar voice could be heard. Lievpad immediately turned around. "Lievpad?! Hah..." he smiled. "You... you remember me, right? I'm Kohei! Kohei Moretti! We used to be neighbours, about 10 years ago."
"Kohei..." muttered Lievpad, shocked.
"Wow..! I can't believe I'm seeing you here! You changed so much since I last saw you!" he added, running up towards him. "Well, I don't think I changed much, other than for..."
Then, Lievpad noticed. A pair of white wings extended from Kohei's back. Lievpad's eyes shrunk.
"A Singularity! Amazing, isn't it? I don't know how I got this, but... I'm happy. It's pretty cool! It lets me fly anywhere, and I've even got custom clothes to make it all work!"
Lievpad remained quiet.
"Ah, man. I'm so glad I could see you before I went to that school, ya know?" he spoke. "Apparently, you go there for an entire year. I'm kinda scared-" he put his hand on the back of his head.
"Why..?!" Lievpad asked, grinding his teeth. "Why..?" he looked into Kohei's eyes.
"Huh?" Kohei was confused. "What do you mean?"
"Why do you have to be better than me?!" he raised his voice. "No matter how hard I tried... you always came out on top!" he yelled. "It's unfair!"
"Lievpad... I don't mean for any of this to be a competition..." he waved his hands around.
"Unfair... unfair..." muttered Lievpad. "You're going to leave me like everyone else, huh?!" he raised his voice.
"But we haven't seen each other for ten years..." he whispered, but none of his words reached Lievpad.
Tears of anger and frustration went down Lievpad's face. "For once... I want to be someone. I want to be strong." he opened his mouth, breathing in. "And... when I have this opportunity, everything is against me..!"
"Lievpad." Kohei tried putting his hand on his shoulder, but Lievpad moved away. "Why are you so angry about this?"
"Because... you're so goddamn cool!" he muttered. "And this opportunity will never come to me!" he yelled.
Kohei backed out for a moment. "Lievpad... I don't know how to help you. But... maybe we should take a more rational and calm approach towards this situation-"
All of a sudden, a storm started brewing above them.
Lievpad and Kohei turned their eyes towards the sky.
"Shit..!" Kohei's wings extended, as he grabbed Lievpad's arms.
"Let go!" yelled Lievpad.
"No! We're not going to just stay in the open!" he added, as the two of them flew up.
Kohei carried Lievpad right to the building he now lived in. He glided onto the ground, soaked in rain.
"I don't want you to be angry at me for this, Lievpad. You can be even stronger than me, without having a Singularity," admitted Kohei.
"You've always had it easier in life," muttered Lievpad, covering his eyes. "You were always automatically good at everything." he was oddly calm now.
Kohei bit his lip, he brushed off the water coming down from his hair and looked at Lievpad, frowning. "I wish we had time to talk this through, Lievpad. I really... care!" he yelled out.
"Or are you lying to me like everyone else?"
Kohei stepped back, before turning around and flying away.
Lievpad looked up, as the nine stars from before were covered by the clouds.
He breathed in.
"I'm not going home yet."
In a burst of energy, Lievpad started running forwards, in the middle of the rain and storm. Bolts of lightning crushed around him, but it didn't deter him.
He just kept sprinting, without direction.
However, it didn't last for long. Lievpad stopped, breathing in and out. He looked forwards. "Where..." he muttered.
The storm disappeared.
Lievpad rubbed something off of his face, before breathing in. "Where am I?" he found himself in an empty, quiet and dark street. A small light shined in the distance. Shivers went down his spine.
