Leon was standing on top of a hill. He looked down at a note Lievpad left before heading to Buenos Aires. He squeezed it in his hand, before letting go, as it flew away, carried by the wind.
"I think Lievpad perfectly knows," stated Leon. "He knows I'll be even busier than last year since I'll have to do additional work in the new school."
"The wound on his hand just... refuses to heal." the doctor informed. "It's strange. Usually, a second-degree burn shouldn't be that bad." the doctor put down the stack of papers on his desk, before crouching next to Lievpad. "Does it still hurt?"
"It does... whenever I think of mum," answered Lievpad.
The doctor frowned, before turning his head. "Mr Elemento, I know how busy you must be, but please remember to come here every three months or so. I'm sure..." he smiled a bit. "With this new Singularity technology, we can get rid of that scar, step by step."
"I'm such a failure." Leon covered his eyes. "We never went to that doctor again." he sat down. "Why... why do I care about everyone around me, when I can't even reach out to my own grandson? Maybe... this is why we're so distant."
The sun slowly set, as the night approached. Leon stood up once more, heading towards the farmhouse. "Maybe... if you had a Singularity, we could still have some time for each other. I wonder if you would like that school... Would I be able to relate to you more? Who knows..."
Lievpad was standing in the dark and empty street. Fear slowly overcame him, as he was unable to move. "It feels like... I can't back out now. But I can't take a step forward either." he said aloud.
He heard a noise, coming from further away. He gulped, before clenching his fist and closing his eyes. For a moment, he saw Kohei's face in his mind. The same, calming and reassuring smile as before.
"No..." whispered Lievpad.
Then, Kohei extended his wings, flying away. "There are certain people I could never reach. It's painful... so painful. I was one step away... now I'm an entire mile."
He opened his eyes, nervously, as the light in the distance shined brighter than before. "But..." he thought. "There must be a reason why I'm here. My body, my legs and my mind carried me right to this place." he breathed heavily.
He rubbed his cheek, before taking a step forwards. "Kohei, if we meet again..." he muttered but didn't finish.
Lievpad walked forwards, without a bigger thought, crossing his mind. The street was surrounded by grey blocks of flats, which normally consumed any light coming from above. There was a particular smell, looming in the air. It wasn't unpleasant, but it was... unfamiliar.
Lievpad travelled down a set of stairs. With each step he took, he became more stressed.
He looked forwards. The light wasn't shining anymore.
"Haah..." Lievpad breathed out. "Maybe I'm just... overthinking? I should go home and get some sleep-"
"Everything happens for a reason." a creepy, female voice echoed behind Lievpad.
"Huh?" he immediately turned his head, as he noticed a hooded figure, stepping out from the shadows of an open door.
"There must be something you're searching for. Is it salvation? Or was this all caused by curiosity?" she asked. "Either way... we're all searching for something in life. Nothing will leave a simple human fully satisfied."
She stepped closer, as Lievpad stepped back. The expression on his face changed.
"I might just have what you're searching for. But I must warn you... nothing will change if you expect the world to wrap around you. You must adjust yourself." she added.
Lievpad tried to peek under her hood, but couldn't see anything. "Is..." he spoke. "Um..." he had trouble saying anything.
"Hehe..." she giggled. "I don't know why you're so scared. You already got so far, so why should you back down now?" she added, before turning around and walking inside the building.
Lievpad thought for a moment, before clenching his fist and following her inside.
There was a certain feeling looming in the air, accompanied by a buzzing noise, that was always present. "I can't back down. Not anymore." thought Lievpad.
"Sit, sit down," she continued, sitting on the opposite side of the table. Lievpad moved the chair back and sat down.
"What... what do you want to give me?"
"I thought you'd be a brighter boy. Look at the things this world is focusing on, Lievpad," she said.
"Huh?" he looked around, scratching his neck.
"Everything revolves around Singularities. Singularity this, Singularity that. When I tried to tell people about these things a long time ago, no one would listen. It only had to be that Elemento man, who had to prove it in action. But I don't blame him. In fact, he's doing more than anyone else, ever."
"You're... not from here, are you?" asked Lievpad. "I can tell by your accent."
"I came here because I saw the potential. I thought others would hear me out, but I was pushed into this corner. But don't think of your friend here like a dumb old lady. I even know about this entire school thing, ain't that fun?"
"Um..." spoke Lievpad.
"Oh right. I'm probably boring you. Let's get to the point. Show me your arm, Lievpad." she continued.
Lievpad raised an eyebrow, before putting his hand on the table.
"The other one," she added. Lievpad looked at her, before swapping hands. She put her hand on his scarred palm, as he ground his teeth. He looked at her body once again. The lady was missing an arm.
"Hm..." she pushed her nails into his fingers.
"Ow..." whispered Lievpad.
"You're perfect for this..." she moved her hand down, as she took out a needle from below the table.
"Hah... hah..." Lievpad began breathing heavily.
"This... this will give you a Singularity. This will help you find a way to your satisfaction. Or... coincidentally... everyone's."
"Maybe-"
All of a sudden, she put the needle into his arm, injecting a liquid, right through his veins. Lievpad closed one eye.
She let go, as Lievpad moved his arm back. He immediately stood up, looking at it. "It..." he breathed out. "It doesn't hurt," he said.
"Exactly. Why would your deepest dreams hurt?" she asked. "Heh."
Lievpad gulped, stepping back.
"You should see it for yourself soon enough. Remember, Lievpad. If you won't grow stronger, this Singularity will work against you." she spoke. "Think of it as muscles. If you use them until you feel pain, they'll break and regenerate, with a thicker skin. You wouldn't want your muscles to just fade away, would you?"
"No..." Lievpad looked at his arm. "But... I have all the reasons to be sceptical, don't I? Are you sure that this is safe?" he asked.
"Lievpad... you'll see for yourself." she stepped back into the shadows.
He breathed in. "Did... I ever tell you my name?" he asked, but the lady didn't answer.
In fact, she has seemingly disappeared. The pressure he felt when he first stepped inside was gone. Lievpad gulped, before turning around, and running out of the street.
Stepping through the different puddles of water, he spoke to himself. "If I get a Singularity, I'll be well on my way to the Erra Singularity School."
He saw Kohei again in his mind, but this time, he felt as if his hand could reach Kohei, even though he was flying away.
"Kohei, if we meet again..." he said, louder. "I'll fight you, and I'll win!" he vowed.
As the moonlight shined through the blinds of an apartment in Buenos Aires, the clock indicates midnight.
It was a new moon. Lievpad was shaking around in his bed, moving his arms and twisting his legs. As heard the clock chime once more, his eyes opened.
With a sudden burst of energy, he pointed his scarred hand far away from his bed.
"Gaah!" he raised his voice.
Out of the blue, a red, translucent apparition of what looked like a giant orb rolled down his forearm.
He snapped his fingers, before letting go. The ball went through a part of the flooring, then the wall and finished on the ceiling, before disappearing.
Lievpad remained in the same position, filled with shock and confusion. He breathed heavily.
The sun rose, marking a new day.
"Mmm..." Leon was sucking on a strawberry, facing the wall in an SYSTA office building.
"Mr Elemento?" a woman came up to him.
"Mmm-" he quickly swallowed the strawberry, closing one eye. "Y-Yes? Maya?" he asked.
"Please come with me."
Leon followed Maya into another, darker room. She turned on the lights, which shined on a gauntlet, laying on top of a pedestal.
"Huh..!" Leon reacted.
"As you can see, Mr Elemento, this gauntlet will help you steer with your fire abilities better, allowing you to not take such critical damage when landing. Since that incident in January, we thought that we need to prioritize your health more."
"Wow!" Leon was awestruck. "WOW! This... this is for me? Haha!"
"Of course." she smiled, holding onto a document.
"So, when do I get to wear it?" he asked, smirking.
"You can train at any time in one of the open areas in the underground, but you'll be able to use it when the time comes," she responded.
"Now that I think about it... it's been a really long time since someone called," he added.
All of a sudden, his phone rang.
"That might be! Someone!" he raised his finger.
"Yes, Mr Elemento. I assume that when a phone is calling, it is probably someone ringing," she answered.
"Mmm..." Leon picked up. "Hi hi? What's the matter?" he answered.
"Wait." thought Maya. "My statement could be completely incorrect if it turns out that a scamming bot would call Mr Elemento." she started blinking rapidly. "Crap. Crap."
"Huh? Oh, Lievpad, it's you," muttered Leon. "Mm... Mmm..." he scratched his lip. "Hm... no, I'm not sucking on strawberries. Mm... wait. You didn't- HUH?!" Leon raised his voice. "WHAT?!" he asked.
"Did something happen, sir?" asked Maya.
"Mmm..." Leon put his hand on his mouth, and his eyes lit up. "Al-alright!" he ran out of the room, hanging up.
"Mr Elemento!" she quickly followed.
"Maya! Get Yaku to teleport me and call Milagro!"
"It's... that urgent!"
"It's about Lievpad!"
