"But now that you're here..." Mari stepped back into the class for a moment. "The topic is on the 5th page in the book, read it, and I'll be back in a second!" he announced, before closing the door.
"I wanted to ask about Enzo. That was the first time I've actually seen the math teacher, and I was wondering what you were so angry at."
Fabio looked down for a moment. "I may have overreacted," he said. "See, Enzo was a part of Statooship, do you know what that is?"
"No clue."
"A healthy abundance of information is key to good education itself. It's a rather small group of people with Singularities who reported being rejected by others because of their quirk, mainly complaining about SYSTA. Enzo is not a teacher, he's a math graduate, and he still thinks that way, even at school. Essentially, Statooship told him to not put his nose too much into SYSTA, but I feel like he does it in other ways. He doesn't know how to be a teacher... and he told me that I'm not a good one." Fabio stepped back. "I'm stupid, I know. I shouldn't let things like these get to me, but-"
"I get you, I do." Mari stepped up from the masonry, patting his shoulder. "Well, everyone has some reason to be a teacher. We all look for purpose in life." Mari went towards the door.
"Mari... one more thing," Fabio spoke. "Did I... look... hot when I-"
Mari slammed the door before his face.
"Lievpad, don't tell me you're actually reading that..." Juablo muttered.
"I like Spanish, though. It's quite easy," replied Lievpad, looking back at the book.
"Huh! Spanish lover two!" pointed Juablo.
At the cafeteria, Lievpad, Juablo and Paula were eating lunch in one row of seats.
"Ahh... I'm full." Juablo put his head on the table, as his eyes slowly drifted towards Lievpad's plate. "...are you going to eat that?"
"Yes," Lievpad responded, taking another bite.
"Hmm... I guess this yerba mate will have to do..." he looked over at Paula.
"Don't even try," she spoke, pointing a fork at him.
"But you're not going to eat those veggies, are you, Amigo?" he asked, as his eyes widened.
"Why are there forks in front of my face?" asked Lievpad, but his question remained unanswered.
"Tsk." Juablo turned his head. "I'll just get another portion. The lunch lady loves boys like me. I'm sure they hate annoying French girls like you!"
"I'M NOT EVEN FRENCH!" Paula raised her voice, as Juablo stuck his tongue out, leaving the table and walking towards the buffet.
Lievpad finished his plate. "Thank you for the meal." he pushed the plate further away.
"You know, you don't need to be so formal. No one's judging us, or anything..." Paula said.
"You said it's funny."
"Yeah, you're right, keep doing that," she said, fastly. "Well, you know. There are still some words that echo through my mind. Like a ball that keeps bouncing off walls, but it never stops. This school hides more than you think..."
"SYSTA itself is quite mysterious. My dad works there, but I don't know anything." Lievpad put his hand on the table. "They might as well be hiding something." he squinted his eyes.
"It's kind of scary. A monster, then that teacher... I feel like we're being purposefully directed towards an unsure goal. Or maybe this school does keep something precious, deep inside its halls."
"It might as well be another monster, but I wouldn't get into it."
"But that monster could be guarding something. For example, the permanent candle effect," stated Paula, as Lievpad turned his head towards her. "It could be something much different, too. Much more powerful..."
"So you're saying... that we should find it?" asked Lievpad.
"Well, I love sticking my nose into things that don't concern me!" she smiled.
All of a sudden, Juablo slammed down his body on the table. "They ran out of food..." he said, in a weak voice.
"Wow, I wonder why." Lievpad looked at him.
"Lievpad... can you at least give me that apple..? You don't like apples, do you?" he looked at him, pleading.
"Okay, okay, you greedy gluttonous mutt." he gave him the fruit.
"WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!" yelled Paula.
"I get a lot of things. I'd call myself an understanding person, which has many hobbies and interests. I can also juggle many things at once. However..." said Rico. "Why is there so much noise at the library?!" he raised his voice, as he looked at all of class A-1, standing and looking around.
"Sorry, Rico! When I told them how cool it was that you took care of this library, all of them wanted to visit." Ben added.
"Of course, you told everyone, Mr Everything." thought Rico.
"I didn't even know we had a library," Lievpad stated.
Chogi ran around the shelves. "Ooh! I want this one! No, this one!" he tried jumping up.
"NO!" Rico grabbed his body. "Not you!"
Rejire fell asleep on the table, Marta jumped around, searching for something too, and Rico had a hard time keeping everything intact.
"Wasn't Mr Milagro the one who took care of the library?" asked Juablo.
"Yeah, but Rico sits here much more," Paula replied. "Well, judging by the fact that he manages all of this, I'd say he's a pretty responsible l'homme!"
"What could he possibly do in the library with all of that free time?" Juablo continued.
"I don't know. Maybe, he reads?" Paula stared him down.
"Then there must be a badge for that!" Juablo smiled.
Lievpad walked forwards, looking at one of the bookshelves. Leira put on her headphones, sat on a chair and looked through a book that was already in her hands. Nivel stood still.
"Oh, please..." Rico looked down, walking towards Lievpad. "Do you want to read something?" he asked, tired.
"No, I don't like reading books." Lievpad closed one that was in his hands, putting it on the shelf. "I prefer when I can see or listen to the information being given. It makes everything more engaging. Wouldn't you like to see a flower bloom instead of reading about it?"
"I don't get how you're good at Spanish then," replied Rico.
"I just watch adaptations."
"That's not gonna get you anywhere!" Rico raised his voice. "Hmm..." he put his hand over his face.
"Sorry, Rico. I thought this would've been more enjoyable." Ben looked at the others, as they slowly gathered around him.
"Yeah, I need some quiet time. That's why I like sitting here. It kinda defeats the purpose, you know?" said Rico, as Ben smiled. Most of Class A-1 left, with Rejire sleeping at the other table and Leira, with her head in the book.
Rico walked over to the same table, put his head down on it, and then sat next to her. Almost everything went quiet. Only the sound of the clock-ticking could be heard.
Leira moved her headphones. "You don't mind, right?" she asked.
"Nah. You're the only one I could possibly deal with. Maybe Rejire too, since he's almost always asleep, and if he's not, he's pretty bubbly." he replied.
"Heh, you're really observant, aren't you?" she asked, smiling lightly.
"Well, some people have things written all over their faces, others need to be unlocked with a key. Either way, I feel like I know something about everyone in this class except... for you." he looked at her. "Maybe Nivel, too." he thought.
"Name's Leira."
"I get that part," he smirked lightly.
"If you don't know things about me, then I'm perfectly doing my job." she looked at her phone. "I don't like standing out of the crowd, but I do wonder what lies at the top of this tower. In my previous school, I just kind of... wasn't there. I like thinking that others see me as the quiet girl with headphones, even if I have a Singularity."
"Then, what's your goal?" asked Rico.
"I wanna be known for something, even if I have a hard time getting there," she explained. "Do you wanna know other stuff?" she asked. "MBTI? Zodiac? My carrd? Most listened to artists on Spotify-"
"Nah!" Rico shook his hands. "I guess you're a person that requires a key," he smirked. "But I can already tell that you're one sarcastic lad."
"Heh, where did that come from?" she asked.
"Leira! Leira!" Marta jumped up.
"No." she responded.
"Let's run a lap around the schoolyard! We have so much free time!" she proposed.
"Yeah, let's even run seven." Leira grinned.
"Okay! That's a great idea!"
"Wait. NO!"
"Oh yeah, that happened," added Leira. "Fortunately, Marta often closes her eyes while running, so when she first started sprinting, I just turned on my heel and left."
"Heh. Nice." Rico said.
"When it comes to people reading... you read a lot." she pointed.
"Wow!" Rico acted amazed.
"Everyone does something for a reason, Rico..." she moved her head down. "Don't tell me to read any of those books to understand you as a person."
"We all have some sort of escapism, don't we?" he asked, putting down a book on the table. "When things get kinda overwhelming... I just read to get my mind off of things. You do that with music, don't you?" he asked, looking at her phone on the table. The song 'I Know A Place' by MUNA was playing. He smiled lightly.
"The Singularity test is meant to show me and your classmates what your precious little ability can do. As far as Prophriets, these things are quite literally like another muscle." Mariano walked around and then stopped. He looked at all of the ten students, standing around. "There are no such things as talent, there's only hard work. This test is a segway into your personalized training. It's up to you to decide in which area you will need Singularities."
Mariano turned to the table next to him. "By using your Singularities, sooner or later you will see another opportunity you can take when it comes to its strengths. SYSTA likes to call those tiers."
"As in, our abilities being stronger?" asked Ben, putting his hands on his hips.
"Yes, and no. Using these tier abilities means you're creating something much stronger, but also different in its own aspect. Think of it as using a microwave, taking the food out, stirring it and putting it in there again, in that way, your entire meal will be equally hotter than before." explained Mari.
"Would that make it so my Singularity won't be useless anymore?" Lievpad asked Juablo.
"Possibly, but you never know," responded Juablo. "I think it might be something to do with Singularity type, Amigo."
"Yeah, there are candles on that table," noted Paula.
"Input Singularity energy into these. If the light is blue, your tiers are gonna be more defence-focused, if it's red, then it's more about the attack." continued Mariano, as the students walked towards the table, picking up the candles.
"This means I can grow stronger," whispered Lievpad, putting his palms against the wax. The light shined red.
"Oh yeah, Lievpad." Mari walked up to him. "You can use your Singularity now, but please, watch out. For everyone's sake." his voice went down.
"WOW! IT'S..!" Chogi spoke. "I might be colourblind."
Lievpad - Attack Tier
Juablo - Attack Tier
Paula - Defense Tier
Nivel - Defense Tier
Ben - Attack Tier
Rico - Attack Tier
Leira - Defense Tier
Chogi - Attack Tier
Rejire - Defense Tier
Marta - Defense Tier
"The smell of these candles surely motivated your Singularity to unlock its first-tier ability. Man..." Mari looked up. "It used to be such a hassle. I wish I was your age instead," he muttered. "Anyway, onwards with the Singularity test. First up..." he looked at a list. "Rico Kirchner."
