June 16th. 2:00 pm. Abel gets ready for the last meeting coming up at 3:00 pm with Erika also getting ready with him. He decides to wear a white dress shirt, black dress pants with a black belt, black dress socks and shoes, and a black tie. Erika wears a revealing tan silk business dress showing her curves and a business jacket that matched. She wears her 5-inch clear heels along with diamond ear studs, a golden necklace, and a golden bracelet to go with the dress, her hair in a ponytail.
Autumn and Vance waited on them outside their door. Autumn wears a black and red business jumpsuit with red heels on; hair in a braid going down to the left side down to her lower torso. Vance wears a blue dress shirt slightly unbuttoned with rolled sleeves and tucked in, his black dress pants were a skinny fit on him, black belt, and black dress boots. Abel opens his door to see Vance and Autumn ready to go.
“Ready for the conclusion, Abe?” Vance asks.
Abel smiles confidently.
“More than ready, Vance.” He replies.
As Abel gets out of the suite, Erika comes out as well with a seething look on her face.
. . .
They reach the first floor and leave out the hotel’s doors. Their chauffer was outside leaning on his limo waiting for them; the chauffer spots them with a smile on his face.
“Ah! It’s nice to see you good people again.” He greets them. “Ready for the finale? Come on in.”
He opens the door to the limo to let the four inside. When they were in the limo, the chauffer gets in the driver seat and proceeds to drive out the hotel’s driveway.
. . .
The limo arrives at the facility with the chauffer parking in its parking lot. He gets out and goes to the other side to open the door. The four get out with Abel leading them inside the building. They go inside the building and sees the man they met yesterday when he wore a blue suit; now wearing a gray suit.
“Welcome back, ladies, and gentlemen.” He greets. “The meeting will begin once we get downstairs. Follow me.”
They follow the man to the elevator to reach the underground lab and into the meeting room where the same men, in different attire, sit in the same seats from the day prior. The elderly gentleman, now in casual clothing, was in the head seat, and greets the four with a smile. The woman in black, wearing lighter garments, greets them as well with a nod. Abel and Erika sit down while Autumn and Vance decide to stand.
“The meeting is now in session.” The elderly man speaks. “Good afternoon, everyone. Now, Mr. Wilson, Ms. Gabisa, we were looking over the results, and like we said yesterday, we are impressed. So, with much thought and consideration, we will help fund your product; for we see it as another step forward for our race. You both have done a good job. In two weeks, you will have the confirmation. I guarantee it.”
“Thank you, sir.” Abel and Erika respond in unison.
. . .
The four are escorted out by the woman in black. As Erika, Vance, and Autumn head back to the limo, Abel was stopped by the woman in black. He looks to her as she takes off her veil, revealing her face. Abel’s eyes widen in shock as the woman smiles.
“N- Natalina…” Abel stammers.
“I’m so proud of you, dear.” She speaks in a softly light voice. “Now, I don’t have time.”
She gives Abel a small box from a hidden pouch she has.
“Find my daughters. What’s inside is for them. You can see what it is for yourself. And be warned: Something terrible is going to happen and it does involve your partner and this place.”
“What is going to happen?” Abel asks.
“Betrayal. Until we meet again, Abel.”
She puts her veil back on her face and walks back into the facility. As Abel walks back to the limo, he sees Autumn, Vance, and Erika staring at him from outside. He thinks about what Natalina said and wonders about Marlene. Was she one of Natalina’s daughters along with her sisters? And seeing Natalina’s face once again reminded him of Marlene. He knew this wasn’t a coincidence when he saw Marlene, his hunch was correct.
“What was that about?” Erika asks enviously.
“Nothing of the sort.” Abel replies. “I have to take the earliest flight home.”
“Why? What’s up?” Vance asks.
“Nothing too concerning. It’s something personal I need to do. I’ll tell you about it when you get back. Let’s go.”
They all get in the limo, and the chauffer drives off and onto the road.
. . . . .
4:55 pm. Marlene and Marlow were in Adam’s hospital room with Eve and their guardian, a woman who looked in her 40s. Marlow tells them what the plan was going to be pertaining to Adam’s operation.
“Okay.” Marlow speaks to the guardian. “Now, we’re planning on doing the procedure on the 18th of June. On the day before, the nurses will help him wash with antimicrobial soap to make sure he’s clean, wash him with the soap the day of, and wipe the chest with sanitizing body wipes we set everything up for the surgery.” He looks to Adam. “So, until then, get ready on the 18th, drink enough fluids, and I promise you will be taken care of. Okay?”
“Okay, Dr. Oden.” Adam replies.
Marlow leaves out the room with Adam’s sheet. The guardian looks to Marlene.
“So, you’re the nurse my niece and nephew were talking about?” The woman asks.
“Yes.” Marlene replies. “Um… I’m sorry. I didn’t ask your name.”
“Shannon Frasier. Call me Ms. Frasier.”
“Okay, Ms. Frasier. My name is Marlene Rosa.”
“It’s nice to see a real nurse in this hospital, actually taking patients into consideration. Not many nurses do that nowadays.”
“Oh, thank you. I just try to treat everybody the way I would want to be treated. It’s nothing really.”
Marlene then looks at her watch and sees it is time for her to leave.
“Do you have to go?” Eve asks.
“Yes, little lady, I have to.” Marlene answers. “But don’t worry, I will be here on the 18th. I promise. Until then, you all have a good evening and sleep well.”
Zeina comes in the room to start her shift for the evening and Marlene waves goodbye to her as she leaves out the room to go to the locker room. She goes to her locker to gets her stuff out, leaves from there and heads to the elevator to go down to concourse to reach her car. As Marlene gets in her car, she starts it and begins to drive out of the underground parking and onto the road.
. . . . .
10:00 pm. Marlene was in her room, laying down in her bed in her nightgown wearing her scarf, looking out the window, seeing the rain fall and hearing the thunder rumble. She then hears her phone ring. She picks it up and sees it was Abel calling her. She answers it.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Marlene.” He greets smoothly.
“Hi, Abel.” She greets happily. “Did you make it home?”
“Yes, and I’m walking to your home right now.”
Marlene’s eyes widen with surprise. She looks out her window which faces the front yard, the driveway, and the road. She sees a black figure in the driveway. It was Abel holding an umbrella, his silver eyes glowing visibly through his shades and the pouring rain, meeting with Marlene’s glowing lavender eyes. Abel hangs up his phone and with his strength, jumps onto Marlene’s balcony to her window. Marlene, still with shock, opens her window for Abel to come inside. When he gets in, he shakes off the excess water from his umbrella and sets it to the side and takes off his waterproof jacket. When Abel looks to Marlene and what she was wearing, so many thoughts flooded his mind.
‘It’s the compatible one and we’re in her room.’ The inner voice speaks with glee. ‘You must make love with her here. This is the perfect chance. She’s so beautiful in every way.’
‘Would you stop?!’ Abel shouts in thought. ‘We’re only here to talk.’
Marlene was surprised at what she witnessed and was excited inside to see Abel again after a couple of days. Seeing what he did made her curious.
“So…” She speaks. “Those eyes aren’t just for show…”
“Yes.” Abel replies.
“They’re like mine…”
“Indeed. Like you said when we met, they are.”
“And behind those eyes, there is a power.”
“Correct.”
“Where did you get your power from?”
“Maybe we should sit down for this.”
Marlene sits on her bed while Abel sits down on a chair in her room.
“I was injected with a serum a long time ago.” He explains. “It gifted me with what I have now. I’m certain the way you have your gift differs from how I got mine, which makes me ask this question. Marlene, were you born with something that made you who you are? Something that made you different along with your sisters? Different than any other human?”
