Kaeso could not believe that the most important woman in his life was in such a bad condition. Kaeso did not see her for so long, and finally, when they met again, he could not talk with her, embrace her, or tell her how much he missed her. Kaeso wanted to lie by her side, hug her and wait for her to wake up if he could. It did not matter how long it would take, days, weeks, or months. Kaeso decided to stay with her, embracing her and waiting for her to return the hug and stroke his hair as she used to.
Shortly it turned out to be impossible. The machines beeping loudly announced that SHE had stopped breathing and the patient was dying. Despite all of that noise, none came to help her. Desperate, Kaeso started to shake her hand. It was the only connection he had with her. Other parts of her body seemed too fragile to touch them. So he hung on to it tightly, trying to wake her up.
"Why are you doing this to me? Stay with me."
Kaeso was crying over his helplessness.
"Wake up!"
"Hey! Wake up!" Someone joined Kaeso, repeating after him.
After opening his eyes, Kaeso did not know where he was. The time stopped for a few seconds. Looking at the woman before him, Kaeso tried to remember where he was and why. The song has just finished with the words: "Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away… Hearts and thoughts disappear…"
"What are you doing in here?!"
Tears run down Kaeso's cheeks. Seeing a blank face in front of him frightened him even more.
"Are you alright?"
Trying to come to his senses, Kaeso ran out of the room, pushing away the cleaning lady standing over him. Getting away as fast as possible from her screams and insults in the back, he got to the nearest toilet. Looking in the mirror, Kaeso tried to cool down. Breathing heavily, he started wiping the tears like little streamers.
"Why can't I make them stop?"
—------------------------------------
After Kaeso entered the teacher's office beside telling him to sit down, she did not utter a word. He was wondering what she was trying to achieve by that. Make him think about his actions, scare him, or maybe make him tiered. If it was the last answer to this question was correct, then it was the right tactic. Kaeso's head was swinging right and left as he fought not to fall asleep. Then she suddenly hit the table.
"What the…" Kaeso straightened up immediately. "...fuck, bitch?" He added the ending of the sentence in his mind.
"Why are you like this?"
"It's a rhetorical question? Because I am quite not sure."
"You know I will have to punish you for your actions."
"What else should I do to change your attitude toward others?"
"I am open to hearing your offer, Miss."
"I heard you are not going to participate in the school trip. Therefore, having two free weeks, you will have plenty of time to write an essay about why choosing violence is not the right way to solve problems".
"Okay, no problem."
"And…" She made a pause here. "You are going to take care of the newcomer who will attend our school from the beginning of the next month. He couldn't sign up for the trip and will also not participate. You will have plenty of time to get to know each other."
"Are you kidding me? Are you nuts?"
"Kaeso, watch your language."
"I mean, is it even legal to make a punishment like this?"
"Of course."
"You are lying..."
"That's the end for today. I will give you more information through email. You may go home now."
This was the worst of all of the punishments Kaeso had ever gotten at school or at home. Babysitting a new student, in other words, daily torture. There was no way he could agree to that.
