Again, this primer is more for newbies or people who want to understand the difference between my "Wokemegaverse" and other versions of the Omegaverse.
Part II-- Sociology & Psychology
Prevailing Cultural Stereotypes— the Omegaverse Caste System
Alpha Males: The most privileged group on the planet. They are seen as optimal leaders and paragons of masculine attractiveness. They’re the ideal partner for all omegas, and the fantasy partner of many Betas. This is probably why they are massively overrepresented in government, in the corporate world, in the medical profession, and in most other areas of life that convey wealth and/or power. They make more money and commit more crimes than other groups— they get away with more, too. If you think this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too.
Alpha Females: This one is complicated. Alpha females are right at the intersection of Alpha privilege and systemic misogyny. In general, Alpha females are probably tied with Beta males for career potential. They do make it to the top of their fields with some regularity, but their rut cycles are seen as being more difficult to manage because women are often viewed as less capable of controlling their emotions (sound familiar?) than males. Crime statistics, however, indicate that Alpha males win the gold for loss of control and physical violence, with Alpha females coming in third behind Alpha and Beta males. Alpha females will readily scrap, however, and they are comparable in strength to Beta males, on average. Alpha and Beta males tend to resent them as competition for partners, seeing them as having an unfair advantage in understanding how Omegas and Betas think. Alpha females certainly are seen as desirable sexual partners by many categories of people. So, basically, life on the far side of penis envy isn't quite as ideal as you might imagine given the other biases Alpha females still face. It is easier to pee standing up, though, and *everyone* can find their clitorises. If you think this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too.
Beta Males: They’re valued for stability and dependability rather than charisma, leadership, or brilliance. They don’t miss work for ruts and only a small percentage miss work for partners’ heats . They don’t get in fights as easily as Alphas, making them more suitable for middle management. They don’t lose their mind if someone goes into heat or rut nearby. Choose any other category that people are valued for— beauty, intelligence, charm, strength… and know that any compliment directed at a Beta male will be followed with the qualifier “for a Beta.” He’s hot… for a Beta. He’s smart… for a Beta. For people attracted to males, the most gorgeous Beta male is still widely acknowledged to be less attractive overall than any Alpha male (or many more masculine-presenting Alphan females). If you think this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too.
Beta Females: They’re nature’s back-up plan. They have value in that they can conceive and gestate babies (not quite as readily as Omegas, but hey), but that’s also the reason they are discriminated against in their careers. The Omegaverse is very attached to the idea that a breeder’s place is in the home. With three other groups ahead of them in line, Beta women are going to have a struggle advancing in power and influence. Some Beta women do pair with Alphas, if that’s any consolation. If you think any of this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too. Fuck the system.
Omega Males: Alphas love you, period. Betas who are attracted to males love you, too. You are sexy, stylish, seductive, and super duper encouraged to pursue homemaking as your career unless you want to do some acting or modeling, maybe singing or being an influencer… Basically, get ready to get your trad wife on. Until estropause, you get to spend your whole life worrying about some rapey Alphan mf running up and biting you and derailing your day/week/year/life. If you think this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too.
Omega Females: Alphas love you, period. Betas attracted to females love you, too… like SO much. You are Barbie brought to life. You were every centerfold back when paper magazines were a thing. You are sexy, stylish, seductive, and super duper encouraged to pursue homemaking as your career unless you want to do some acting or modeling, maybe singing or being an influencer… Basically, get ready to get your trad wife on. Until estropause/menopause, you get to spend your whole life worrying about some rapey Alphan mf running up and biting you and derailing your day/week/year/life. If you think this sucks, cool. All my MCs think this sucks, too.
Wokemegaverse: I should just call it the “Decentverse,” because that’s all it is. It's nothing odd or special. It’s a world where…to be considered attractive or sexy or romantic, you have to be decent/humane. Don’t get me wrong, we are not talking prudery, not by a long shot. More salads will get tossed in these books than in an Olive Garden during the post-church Sunday rush. Any consenting adults who want to interlace their parts can interlace their parts, and I will lovingly depict it in the thirstiest words I can conjure. Consent is a major pillar of decency. There will be no dubcon/noncon in these books unless it is rightfully represented as a crime that has occurred and is being prosecuted. Noncon’s just not my jam. I can’t easily forgive a character for that, instincts or no. I do try my best to make the obtaining of consent very sexy and ripe for a little light voyeurism, at least.
Bigotry: There will also be appropriately negative attitudes towards discrimination of all types— racial, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, classism, religion, nationality, immigration status, colorism, caste, whatever it is, none of my good guys are going to entertain that mess.
Violence: Domestic violence is off the table, too. No matter how rut-y or heat-y we are, we do not put our hands on each other in anger or jealousy, we do not “lose control” and get rough to the point of causing injuries during otherwise consensual sex (not counting hickies, consensual claims, and superficial nips, scratches, and bruises)…We do not spank or tie up without express permission. We do not claim bite or knot our partners without express permission. None of that is romantic to me no matter HOW massive the remorse is or how passionate the apologetic groveling. There is one scene where one character gets grabby and another gets a little jiu jitsu takedown-y. It’s a little close for comfort DV wise, but no one is trying to hurt anyone and no one gets hurt and in retrospect, no one is proud of themself for even that interaction. When we have problems or disagreements and we want them to end, we *communicate* about them.
I know that this is a lot of rules and high-horsing and virtue signaling and shit that people hate, but I came here to build an Omegaverse I can be proud of and to chew bubblegum, and I’m all out of bubblegum.
I really hope you enjoy the stories I’ve made up… they’re frivolous, of course, but I think the messages in frivolous things may matter more than in elevating, intellectual, literary works… because we nod thoughtfully over literature, we analyze it, we pick it apart, we give it thought; we let the frivolous stories straight into our hearts and minds and no-no squares without much critique. Or I always have, anyway. So here's my idea of better-for-me Romance.
There will be a good amount of worldbuilding in the novels that expands on the information I’ve provided here, but if you ever have a technical question or anything like that, please don’t hesitate to ask. I *like* to answer questions, I love curiosity. This never expires, I don't care how long ago the chapter was posted. I will still respond. You can ask in the comments or if you feel shy, click on my username (and then click private) to send me un-public questions via my “wall.”
Best wishes, happy reading, hope you enjoy--
