Life seems abundant, sentience rare, and civilization near impossible. Our next discovery on our cosmic journey is quite special because this discovery is our first ever fully sentient civilization. Welcome to planet Juno, an earth-like planet located approximately 5,128 light years away from earth. Here we find the Vodoth, a species of arachnid. This species is quiet a special case, and one of a few civilizations who we will meet on our journey across the vast expanse of the cosmos. The story of the Vodothians is a 2 million yearlong epic which starts at the very beginning of their evolution and covers events right to their present peak of power. Thankfully most of their story is a happy one, as the Vodoth did not encounter any major enemies other than a brief encounter with the horde (More information on the horde coming soon).
The Vodothians started humbly, with intellect on par with humans, they were able to navigate their environment and quickly understand the game of evolution from early on. This first stage is known as the dark ages, as there was no form of society yet, only small clans who fought for dominance. An important note to make about Juno is that it is in a binary star system meaning that it has two suns. The first sun, known as Lumos 1, is the larger star which is an F class star, and it produces a Yellow-white glow. The second sun, known as Lumos B-2, is much smaller and is considered a red dwarf. The light from Lumos 1 is the main source of heat for Juno, and due to the binary star system, the summers on Juno can reach up to 60 degrees Celsius.
The temperate climate and vast resources of Juno allowed for the evolution of the Voldothians to speed up slightly, and as the clans began to make more regular contact with one another, and bonds began to form. The initially very small and isolated clans began merge with like-minded clans who shared similar linguistic and cultural ideals. These were the first societies which were formed around 400,000 years into the evolution journey of the Voldothians. This movement towards civilization prompted artistic, technological, and societal advances which caused a leap in the progress of the Voldothians. Within 500,000 years of evolution, they had united their planet under a federation which held onto the clan council form of government. Prior to this uniting of the Voldothians, wars were uncommon however brutal. With their four powerful legs and two flexible arm like appendages the Vodothians make formidable warriors. Their ability to use spears, axes, and rifles has made their military one of the fiercest in the galaxy. Their use of long-range mounted weapons also made them very fierce opponents. Their outer exoskeleton allowed them to take blunt blows very well, however sharp objects and projectiles deals great damage to them.
Vodothian society moulded itself around the clan councils of old, a sort of direct democratic organisation where the voices of everybody were placed in high regard. The largest challenge for the Vodothians was their lack of vocal cords, and as such they struggled to integrate into the galactic community which formed in the year 6011. Their way of communicating is through vibrations and signals which are difficult to decipher. The same was for their writing system of complicated symbols. This challenge lead them to creating a galactic federation of their own, comprising of their home system, and several others which were de-facto independent while reporting to the capital.
The horde came into contact with the Vodothians much later than with humanity, due to their isolation. In the year 43,708, the horde arrived in the Vodothian home system. The battle which ensued was fierce with both sides taking major losses, however in the end the Vodothians had to make a tough choice. The horde would be back, again and again. In response to this they knew they would have to finish the development of a singularity engine (More information coming later). This engine would allow them to warp space time on a much finer level than with previous warp engines. After a total of 210 years in development, the engine was ready. Every single member of Vodothian society was herded onto a giant space craft simply known as "Ark one". This ship was simply enormous, able to carry all the 16 million remaining Vodothians. This ship has saved the species from total extinction, at the cost of their home world of Juno. Once they left, the Vodothians warp hopped out of the Milky Way, and towards the empty vacuum of space where they would set up their new home in a gigantic, but lonely asteroid field. Here they would use their advanced technology to refine metals and other materials on an unprecedented scale. Eventually they would develop a quasar laser, a weapon so powerful it was deemed dangerous to everything within an entire square light year. As of right now, the Vodothians sit in wait just like humanity. Waiting for the arrogant horde to show a weak point, something which can be latched onto and exploited so that they can go home to the smoking remains of Juno. Perhaps one day the Vodothians will return, perhaps they will even destory they horde. For now they lie in wait.
