“What kind of detour was it, that it took you a whole 30 minutes?” Blaine asked, his voice bitter.
“The kind they usually send to remind someone of their place,” Trey grumbled and stabbed his stuffed clam with enthusiasm.
“Does he do that often?”
“No, just when he wants to test me. My guess is he was just buying time to talk with you before I would show up. Apparently, I came too early and he decided it was better to withdraw his curiosity. He did this once before with a previous lover, whom he scared off by the way. Had to shoot him too.”
“Wonderful, maybe I should visit him then?”
Trey did a double take, realizing whatever conversation had occurred had set him off. He peered at Leonard, who immediately avoided his gaze. That told him it must have been pretty serious.
They finished their dinner, making light conversation about the week they had and then returned to his apartment. They both took a shower together, but Blaine was oddly repressed. He wasn’t talking like he normally did, nor did he offer any encouraging words of affection. Trey had to do something to lift his mood before things got out of hand.
“So, how long can you stay this time?” Blaine’s cut throat tone made him glower.
Trey reached out and wrapped his arms around his waist, kissing his neck. He didn’t push him away, but he didn’t melt into his frame either. It seemed his little dove was being stubborn.
“I can stay for a couple days.” Blaine’s hesitation made him smile, it was longer than any other time he had stayed before.
If Trey hadn’t considered being completely devoted before, he knew he was now. After the afternoon he had fending off a streamline of assassins for his sake, he wanted this to work out. No, this had better work out. Plus, Blaine fended off his Godfather. That wasn’t something just anyone could do.
“I’m proud of you.” His words made Blaine turn and face him, a confused look on his face.
“For what?” The fact that he didn’t understand how incredible he really was, said something.
“For putting up with my father like that.” Blaine scoffed, rubbing the water from his hair as it trickled down his forehead.
“I’ve met worse.” Trey’s smile widened, suddenly very happy his little dove was so resilient.
“Well, I hope you didn’t let them push you around?”
“No, like the good little dove you like to refer to me as, I pecked them to death.”

It was a Thursday, Blaine had made sure his whole weekend was going to be free for Trey. It was the first time he had actively asked him out on a weekend getaway since they established their unusual relationship.
It was nerve wracking, that something so simple was making him nervous. It wasn’t unsettling, but it was different since he rarely became unsettled anymore. That feeling of looking forward to something good happening was quickly squashed with a call from Leonard.
He was on his way up to his penthouse when he answered his phone, his tone anything but pleasant. Leonard knew not to bother him after he clocked out for the day, much less anything concerning his time from then until Sunday night.
“What?”
“Sir, I’m sorry to disturb you, but your family has called for an urgent meeting to be held.” He wanted to kill someone. Did it have to be now? Did it have to be this weekend?
“Why?”
“I’m not sure, I’m looking into it sir. How would you like me to proceed?”
He rubbed his face in agony as the elevator opened up and he walked into his living room. Trey was already waiting, reading something while sipping on a glass of wine. He smiled a greeting to him, and Blaine offered a soft one in return as he pulled at his tie and headed to the whiskey cabinet.
“Find out anything you can, did they already pick a location?”
“No sir, it seems they left most things up to your discretion as always. However, Dean is currently at the resort house in Canada.”
Well fuck, if his brother was there it only meant one thing, he was with their step-father. If that was the case, he would have to go there as the location. Dean didn’t leave for weeks after returning home to visit their step-father. If he tried to hold a family meeting without Dean, it would look bad since he was in charge of all the security for the family.
“Fine, make the arrangements as usual. Don’t inform them until I’m arriving and make the preparations for the worst case scenario. I don’t have to tell you how these events usually end up.”
“Yes sir, I’m truly sorry. I tried to dissuade your sister but she was adamant.”
“Just make sure you bring along all the dirt you possibly can so I can read it over on the plane trip up there.”
“Understood sir.”
He hung up his phone, suddenly more than furious. He really wanted to kill someone, should he take a page from Trey and just accept some random hit contract to pass time?
“My little dove seems stressed, everything alright?”
His concern was cute, he wanted to be forward and apologize but he had never done so before. It was foreign and not something he thought he would be doing so soon in their relationship.
“I have to cancel our plans.”
Blaine couldn’t look at him, but heard Trey set down his book on the stand and walk over to him. His lips on his neck were comforting as he drank his whiskey.
“Do I need to kill someone? Does my little dove need my assistance?” he asked. He almost wanted to take him up on the offer.
“If it was that simple I’d hire you to kill them all so I didn’t have to ever go to another ridiculous family meeting again.” He felt Trey hesitate.
“Your family is having a meeting this weekend?”
“Yes, and they are always a headache. I just hope I don’t have to cut satellite feed for three days.”
“That bad?” he chuckled.
He turned to face him, letting Trey press him against the cabinet counter he was leaning on, his lips trailing over his skin.
“Last time we had a family meeting, I had to punish four of my siblings for trying to incite rebellion in each other ranks over a dispute involving who was cheating in a card game. Almost three hundred people needed medical care, a quarter of that was bodies needing disposing of, and that doesn’t account for all the assassination attempts on my life.” Trey pulled away, giving him a ridiculous look of unreal belief. “Unless you’re comfortable with mass massacres during mealtime, I think it’s better we reschedule.”
“I’d say your family is just as bad as my Godfather, but I’m not sure he measures up since I haven’t met your family.”
“I’ve never lived with your Godfather, so I can’t say either.” He poured some more whiskey into his glass, taking it in slowly.
“Then perhaps I should?” Blaine paused, contemplating the thought. He had never introduced anyone to his family, ever.
“Are we committed enough for that, meeting the family?” Blaine asked, truly wondering.
“I know I am, why do you think I let you meet my Godfather?” That was a good point, he hadn’t expected that in the slightest. He should at least show him some good faith in return.
“Even though this would be our first real getaway date? Not exactly ideal.” Trey grabbed his glass, swallowing the rest of his whiskey.
“Would you rather have me tail you there?”
“Cute, are you saying you’re worried?”
“You just told me they try to assassinate you every time you go to one of these functions, shouldn’t I be?”
“Well, it’s more like a family tradition of sorts. Doesn’t your family have something similar?” Trey thought about it and then let it go, Blaine called that one.
“Still, I don’t like it.” Should he invite him? What the hell, why not? Trey was an assassin, he could handle it, right?
“Fine, come at your own peril. If you die, just let it be known I probably will execute them all. You better leave your Godfather a message just in case. I don’t need him seeking justice.”
“It will be fine, but if I need to do that to make you feel better, I will.”
“Good, get ready to go then.”
“Already?”
“It will take a couple days to get there.”
He dialed Leonard, letting him know to add room for another. He was met with silence, Leon’s way of protesting against his decision. Even as they loaded suitcases into the car to head to his private jet, Leonard was casting them glances from the driver’s seat.
“Just say it,” Blaine announced. He tapped through his phone, looking through emails regarding all the dirt his siblings were living with in their closets.
“Say what, sir?”
“Whatever it is you want to say.” Trey gave Leonard a smirk in response, curious about what he was so concerned about. Leonard cleared his throat.
“Sir, I hate to state the obvious but you have never introduced anyone before. I’m afraid of the repercussions of doing so.”
“You mean them trying to kill off my lover?” he asked directly.
“Frankly, yes sir. I know Mr. Needless’s talents are excessive and varied, but when it comes to your family they are overly excessive. Need I remind you of the April fool’s joke involving hallucinogenic gas and leopards?”
“That sounds interesting, I think I’d like to hear about that story,” Trey smiled.
“Hardly, their jokes aren’t really meant to kill anyone. If they don’t like him, worst case they will just bug me endlessly. Best case scenario, they approve and will try to covet him from me.”
Trey looked at him in amazement, he didn’t think his family was that kind of excessive. He thought they just liked to murder, not take his own toys away. It suddenly made sense why Blaine acted out the way he did, his whole family must be made of sociopaths.
“Sir, I think you’re forgetting that their methods of bugging you involve asset sabotage, murder plots, and excessive blood and violence. Of course that doesn’t include incarceration, rape, and many other things I’d rather not repeat.”
“Wow, what does coveting me mean then?” Trey asked, intrigued.
“Kidnapping, incarceration, rape, showering you in gifts to earn your favor, and endless random appearances no matter what is going on in your life. Of course, not in that order.” Trey admitted that could get annoying.
“Yes, but if they like him I won’t have to worry about anyone else trying to covet him. If they don’t, I just have to endure it until they do,” Blaine added.
“I think you’re forgetting about what Mr. Needless may want.” Leonard’s eyes drifted to Trey.
“You can call me Nyx, and as far as that goes, I don’t mind. We all have fucked up family issues. How bad could his be?” Leonard looked away immediately, the silence was an impending clue as to what he had to look forward to.
Even on the plane, they avoided the topic as he watched Blaine scour over tons of documents reporting on their behavior. His occasional scowl, meant he wasn’t happy with one or more of them. His face was otherwise neutral, like everything on those papers was casual every day behavior. He found it most interesting watching him, especially when he paused at one particular document with risen eyebrows.
“Leonard,” he called. Leonard made his way to him from the other isle, sitting next to him.
“Yes sir?”
“Who the fuck is this?” Leonard looked at it and took the paper.
“This is your sister’s new muse, I believe I already informed you some time ago.”
“I don’t remember that.”
“You were busy being consumed with lust over Nyx, sir.” He glared at him, Leonard not offering his apology for stating the truth as Trey found it all amusing.
“But isn’t this who I think it is?” he asked.
“Yes sir.”
“You don’t think she already knows do you?” His tone set this matter apart from before, Blaine was worried about something.
“I think it is very possible, yes sir.”
“Fuck.” He pushed his hair back and tapped his finger on his knee.
“Do not worry sir, I have made preparations to deal with her as well, should she act out of character.”
“You did?” he smiled, clearly relieved.
“Yes, it is my job to protect you and Nyx from any inconveniences you may encounter.”
“Leonard, I don’t think I’ve ever told you just how amazing you are.”
“You do it more often than you think sir, every time we face a crisis you forget about. Perhaps a pay raise is better suited?”
Trey sipped on his beer as he watched the altercation, normally he’d be jealous. In this instance he was highly entertained. Blaine gave him a sarcastic look, but was still thinking about it.
“I’ll pay him double, if you don’t.” Blaine looked to Trey in alarm. “He’s good, I’d hire him from you any day.”
“You’re not coveting my favorite henchman.”
“Why not?”
“He’s mine.”
“Your mine.”
“And your mine.”
“So, what’s mine is yours right?”
Leonard was taken aback by the offer, but interested with the exchange. He had never seen his boss get defensive over him before and it made him feel appreciated. It also meant a better chance of getting that pay raise and maybe a vacation someday.
“No, he’s mine. But if you insist, there must be ground rules.”
“Ground rules, like what?” Leonard was confused, letting the conversation happen because he knew he had no say anyway.
“Leonard is under my permanent employment. Should you leave me, he stays with me, no exceptions.” Trey chuckled, loving this new heated debate.
“Fine, but I get to ask him to do tasks for me to.”
“As long as he doesn’t get put in too much danger. No international spying. No illegal underground fighting, and no gambling.” Leonard sighed, thinking it was just because their interests would clash then. Blaine already had him doing those things on his behalf.
“What about appetite?” he joked. Blaine’s look could kill, so he offered a surrender. “No sex situations, got it.” Leonard drew a line with those, his boss’s family was enough to quell that kind of appetite for a few lifetimes.
“You can’t ask him to control me on your behalf either.” Shucks, Blaine got him under his thumb didn’t he?
“Fine, but I want him to share your schedule. I want him to be able to help me set things up involving you. I get a say with security and events, and I get to look over all your dirty little secrets and those around you.”
Blaine glared at him, not happy that he was prying. Blaine was already under Trey’s influence though, ready to give in. All he had to do was offer something worth it.
“I’ll even throw in rights for him to dig through my history and kill anyone you don’t like.” Leonard looked at Trey with severe surprise, wondering what the assassin wanted that matched exposing himself.
“Done.” That concluded the deal, and Leonard supposed he’d at least be getting that raise.
“Great, Leon will receive his first check in a moment.” Leonard looked at his phone, which dinged with an alarm notice. He deposited a large amount into his secure bank, which made Leonard super nervous. How had he gotten ahold of those details?
“For what?”
“For all the files he’s been letting you read this whole time.” Blaine scoffed and then threw them at him. Leonard thanked him and returned to his seat.
