As Dahlia walked towards the dining room with the guards, her heart was racing. She had no idea what the emperor wanted from her, but she knew she had to be prepared for anything. The guards announced her entry and she walked in to find the Emperor, the third and second empresses, her siblings, and the second prince. She greeted each of them with utmost respect, surprising everyone with her calm demeanor.
She took her seat next to her little brother and everyone at the table was shocked by her calmness. However, Dahlia was still scared and believed that she had been caught with a weapon. She waited for the emperor to speak, wondering what was going to happen.
"Why did you send away the maid earlier?" the emperor asked Dahlia.
Dahlia realized that this wasn't about the weapon and that no one knew. She calmly replied, "Because she was being useless."
Everyone was shocked by this response, and the third empress burst out into anger, saying that Dahlia was an ungrateful child who didn't appreciate anything given to her. The emperor told the Empress Marie to calm down and then sighed, telling Dahlia to be more considerate of the servants. Dahlia remained silent, knowing that saying anything at this time would only be disadvantageous to her.
The emperor then turned his attention to the second prince, who was 19 years of age. As they ate at the dinner table, he asked the second prince how the assignment he had given him was going.
"I'm having trouble convincing Duke Garaton to send men over to the western border," the second prince replied. "It seems our neighboring country's army is more concentrated there."
The emperor asked, "Doesn't that mean the northwestern border and the southwestern border would have fewer men there?"
The second prince replied, "Yes, but if we are able to take care of where the enemy is concentrated, we should be able to send soldiers over to the other borders for clean up."
As they talked, Dahlia remembered her past life and realized that this plan wouldn't work. She remembered that initially, the emperor had gone with the plans of the second prince, but it resulted in them losing the advantage in the war. This further resulted in the prolonging of the war, and the Alugia Empire suffered many more casualties.
Dahlia saw this as an opportunity to grow her authority and respect not only in the palace but also in the military. She coughed before saying, "Your highness, if I may say something on this matter..."
Everyone was shocked by her interruption, and the second empress shouted in anger again, "You impudent brat, this is no topic for a child!"
The other princesses also shouted at her, but the second prince calmly said, "Mother is right, children should not be involved in the affairs of adults."
The emperor then said, "It's okay, we all have freedom of speech," and he permitted Dahlia to speak.
Dahlia then explained how the third prince's plan wouldn't work and that they would need more people on the northwestern border. She explained that the Agnowa kingdom wasn't known to have lackluster tacticians and was obviously planning something more.
The second prince asked her questions while she explained, and she answered them with great insight. She then ended off by saying, "I plead that you take the ranting of a young child into consideration."
Everyone dismissed her words as the ranting of a child, except the prince who didn't hide the concern on his face after Dahlia's words, and the emperor who simply kept what Dahlia said in mind.
There was a great silence before the emperor said, "Very well, that is some great insight from Dahlia. I will take your words into consideration and have a discussion with the military strategists to see if we need to revise our plans."
Dahlia felt a sense of relief and pride that her words had been heard by the emperor. She continued to listen to the conversation but didn't interject any further.
As the dinner came to an end, the emperor stood up and said, "Dahlia, may I speak with you for a moment?"
Dahlia's heart raced again, wondering what the emperor wanted to talk about. She followed him as he led her to a private room.
"Dahlia, I wanted to commend you for your bravery and insight at the dinner table tonight. Your words have given me pause to reconsider our current plans," the emperor said.
Dahlia was both surprised and grateful for the emperor's words. She replied, "Thank you, your highness. I only spoke what I believed to be true."
The emperor then said, "I would like to offer you the opportunity to join the military and become a strategist. With your intelligence and strategic mind, I believe you could be a great asset to our army."
Dahlia was stunned. She had never thought about joining the military, but the idea intrigued her. She replied, "Thank you, your highness. I am honored by your offer and will consider it."
The emperor nodded and said, "Take some time to think about it. You are still young and have a lot of potential. Whatever you decide, know that I support you."
Dahlia bowed respectfully and left the room, feeling both honored and nervous at the prospect of joining the military. She knew she had a lot to think about and decide on.
