Within minutes, the machine begins to light up as Jess's senses start to fade. As she looks down, she can see her gray hair and old, withered body below her. She slowly rises up as she were a ghost ascending into the heavens, before being sucked into a tube. She then zips straight into her new body in the vat of nutrients.
Jess slowly opens her eyes and inspects her hands. They look just like the hands of her new body! She looks over into the other chamber to see her dead body slumped over, lifeless. The vat of nutrients opens for Jess to exit from. She then rejoices! "It worked! I'm 20 again!" she shouts as she hears one of her daughters running.
Sage bursts into the door and says, "Mom? Are you okay?" The mouse is holding a bowl of oatmeal and a bottle of pills as she looks around the room. She then drops both of them in shock when she sees her mom's dead body, slumped over in a strange chamber. "No! I was too late! Please be alive!" she screams as she rushes to the vat and kneels down. Sage holds onto Jess's wrist to check her vitals. "No pulse." Sage hears her mother's voice whisper those words.
"Huh?" Sage says out loud. The mouse looks back and forth, thinking she's hallucinating auditorily. She is shaking in fear.
"Sugar, you're not hearing things." Jess says at a normal volume from behind Sage, who squeaks, jumps and turns around, conjuring a shield out of ice to protect herself. Her face then turns from fear to annoyance. "Mom, why didn't you just tell me it worked?" Sage asks as she continues to hyperventilate. "Because I wanted to show you without having to pry you off of your computer." Jess replies.
Sage gets up and sighs. "But I've been trying to distance myself from the internet. Especially after what happened to Zoe."
"Well there's your head start." says Jess. "You get rid of your addiction, I make myself a new body, you can find yourself a career, I can continue my research. It's a win-win."
Jess walks over to a workbench and begins tinkering with a small electronics box. "Could you hand me a screwdriver?" Jess asks Sage. "Okay." Sage says as she hands Jess the tool. The mouse stays and watches her mother work, showing an interest and asking questions, to which Jess happily answers. Sage then silences her phone so she can focus more on the precious moments in the present.
