Ava stared out of the car window, fixated on the endless rows of trees that flew by. Leaving her prestigious private school and moving to a small town in the middle of nowhere named Feralwood was a drastic change, but with her mother's sudden death, Ava had no choice but to move in with her estranged father.
"Welcome home, Ava," he said, his voice cold and distant.
Ava mustered a weak smile, trying to conceal the unease she felt inside. It was surreal living with the man who had abandoned her and her mother years ago.
As she walked into the house, she was overcome by nostalgia. The rustic furniture and the aroma of wood and spices felt foreign to her after spending so many years in a sterile, high-tech world. She wondered how her father managed to adapt to this slower pace of life after working in politics.
"Your room is upstairs," her father said, breaking her out of her thoughts. "I have to go to work now, but we'll talk more tonight."
With that, he left, leaving Ava to explore her new home.
As she ascended the stairs, she heard a strange noise outside. Ava cautiously approached the window, peering into the darkness. Her eyes widened in shock as she saw a massive grey wolf staring directly at her, its eyes aglow. Fear gripped her heart, but as she scrutinized the animal, she sensed there was something different about it. The wolf seemed intelligent, almost human-like. She couldn't shake the impression that this was no ordinary animal.
What kind of place was this, where wolves roamed free and potentially had a mind of their own? Ava shuddered, wondering what other secrets this small town held.
As night fell, Ava crawled into bed, exhausted from the day's events. She closed her eyes, hoping to drift off to sleep, but her mind was racing with thoughts of her new home.
Ava found herself in a vast field, the moon shining brightly overhead. As she looked down, she noticed something strange - her hands were now paws, her body covered in fur. She was a wolf.
Without a second thought, she began to run, her powerful legs propelling her through the tall grass. She felt free, unburdened by the weight of her recent loss and her new, unfamiliar surroundings. The wind rushed past her ears as she ran faster and faster, chasing something she couldn't see but could feel.
Suddenly, she came upon a clearing, and in the center stood the grey wolf she had seen earlier. It looked at her with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine, and as their eyes met, Ava felt a sense of recognition.
The grey wolf spoke, its voice echoing in her mind. "Welcome, Ava. We've been waiting for you."
Ava was stunned. How was this possible? The wolf continued.
"You may feel lost and alone, but you are not. We are here, and we will guide you."
Ava woke up in a sweat, her heart pounding in her chest. She was both terrified and intrigued by the dream. What did it mean? Was it a warning or a message?
As she lay in bed, she thought back to the grey wolf's words. Despite everything that had happened, she felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps this small town was where she was meant to be all along.
