~~A man sleeping on a bench is woken up by a truck horn~~
Arriving at the hobby shop, they first noticed the sign 'Robots and Gundam Models half off sale.' It wasn't what they were looking for, but Rin still stared at the sign, her face screwed up in perplexion. "I don't know what either of those things are. Are they useful?"
Raynel smiled as he shook his head once. “Nope! This is a hobby shop, after all. A place where people can look for whatever obscure, useless, or interesting pastime they’re passionate about. From rubber bands to electrical kits, they got it all. Mostly.”
Looking on with a calm expression as she entered the store, Rin began to imagine how much money she could make if she owned a shop of some sort. "That's impressive. I imagine they get a lot of business here."
“Oh, they do! The customers are very loyal to the business since this is where they can meet people who are interested in the same things. It’s also a place to learn about new things that they haven’t heard of before.”
As they looked at the many shelves, cluttered aisles, and tables, a large older man who looked incredibly unhealthy called out to them from behind the sales counter. "If'n you need any help, be sure to ask."
As he spoke, one could see that the very few teeth he did have left were all yellow and chipped. That type of damage didn't come from only not caring for your teeth properly. It would have taken some serious substance abuse.
He seemed quite friendly, however, and Rin was unbothered by his presence. Raynel saw the jovial glint in his eye and approached. “Hello! My friend over there wants to learn how to build electronics. I want to show her the basics of them and how they work and then try to build a rudimentary stove. Got any kits for that?”
"I Reckon I got a few that might help. Let me take a look on the shelves real quick." The man said, getting up to guide them over to a section by the far wall labeled 'Custom electronics guides and hobby kits.'
When they arrived, he pulled out two books from the shelf and paged through to find everything they needed for what they wanted to learn about, memorized it, and pulled out a large hobby box to fill with parts. "I'll get ya the parts you'll need for this. Since you're new, and you're buying a custom kit, I'll give ya a good discount."
Rin seemed to perk up at the word discount but remained silent.
He worked with practiced ease, taking the parts and sectioning them into small bags to use for the project. "I'll be addin' in a few extra, free of charge. I know just how frustratin' it is to mess up the first few times."
Raynel dipped his head. “I appreciate it! We’re going to have so much fun when we get back!”
Nodding back, he finished setting up the kits, including all the parts and tools they'd ever need for those projects and brought them back to the counter. "It's always good to see people gettin' into a new hobby. It helps that I'm pretty interested in electronics myself."
When he rang them up, the number was about one hundred thousand yen, but he chopped the price in half with a discount of 50%.
Now that the price was incredibly cheap for the amount they received, Rin smiled as she paid for the equipment and took Raynel by the hand without looking back.
The man chuckled, gave them an unseen wave, and said, "Y'all have fun with that."
~~You know this is a Line break- Line break yeah~~
Setting the stuff down at a convenient place in the Tohsaka mansion, Rin turned to Raynel and bowed slightly. "Thank you for your help today. I should probably arrange a proper meeting concerning what we'll be doing about the holy grail war, but I can leave that until tomorrow if I must."
He returned the bow. “You’re very welcome! Do you mind if I stay here for a while? I don’t have anything else to do today, and this is a fun project!”
A faint grumbling was heard from somewhere near Rin, and she barely hid her resulting blush. "Well, if that's the case, why don't I make us something to eat first? Surely you must be hungry by now?"
The mention of food made him realize his own empty stomach. He scratched his head in embarrassment and donned an abashed grin. “Yeah… It’s pretty late. Sorry about that. But I’m looking forward to whatever you’re cooking!”
"Alright, I'll just make something quick," Rin said before heading off to the kitchens.
Rushing through her kitchen, she activated a series of runes her father had made for the servants they used to have to increase the amount of time that passes in the kitchen compared to the outside world. The dish she wanted to make would take seven hours, so she decided to have a snack first.
The first step was to ensure the duxelles were made perfectly, then searing the beef. The prosciutto was set out and ready by her servant Archer who she had yet to introduce to the others. How thoughtful of him to help.
While he worked on that, she got the puff pastry rolled out and ready, and she saw him prep the oven to the correct temperature. The pastry-covered beef was egg washed and went into the oven as soon as it was ready.
The roasted peppercorn sauce and the potatoes were ready soon after. After that, all they needed was the winter greens.
Bringing it out to the table, she called for Raynel. "Hey, dinner is ready! Come eat it before it gets cold." Her servant had already set the table and astralized to sit on the roof again and keep watch.
“I’ll be right there!” Raynel barrelled down the corridor, slowing down before he reached the entrance to the dining hall. He took a deep breath through his nose and exhaled in satisfaction. “It smells wonderful! What are we having tonight?”
Getting ready to make her daily prayer before she ate, Rin shrugged. "Beef Wellington. I had to cut a few corners to make it in time, but it should be decent nonetheless."
“May I say the prayer tonight? It’s only fair that I do this much after what you’ve done.”
With a soft smile, Rin bowed her head. "Alright, be my guest."
“Thank you.” Raynel folded his arms and began to pray. “Dear heavenly father. We thank thee for this wonderful day. That despite the tragedies today, all are in good health. I thank thee for the opportunity to meet Tohsaka today, who I see as a dear friend. We ask thee to bless this food so that it may nourish our bodies and give us the strength to carry out the rest of our tasks for this day. Bless us so that we may enjoy each other’s company in peace and tranquility. Please bless Bazett so that she may be able to get her dear servant back. Bless us so that when it is time to return home, that we may do it in safety. We say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
"Amen." Rin echoed and began to eat. As she did so, she noticed her fatigue washing away with every bite and wondered if it had to do with Ranel's prayer, which was unlike the prayers her mentor had taught her.
She chewed thoughtfully, before swallowing, and decided to make conversation. "You know, the way my mentor taught me to pray was much different. Considering your prayer was much more effective, I almost have to wonder what he'd think of it."
Raynel finished his bite before responding. “First of all: This meal is wonderful! Why did you doubt yourself in saying that it’ll be decent? Second. How do you pray then? Your mentor sounds like a rather unique individual.”
"Well, usually he has me start off by listing my sins for the day, begging for forgiveness, and calling myself unworthy." Rin deadpanned, not really sure what to think of it herself.
He leaned back in his chair in thought. “That’s a rather odd way of going about it. Those kinds of prayers are more so done in private. Even then, a prayer of repentance is a time to reflect on your wrongdoings. You should learn from them and ask our Father for forgiveness, but you shouldn’t be seeing yourself as unworthy of His grace. For the average prayer, you should thank our Father for whatever comes to your mind, as gratitude leads to humility. Next, you ask him for what you need at the moment but take care not to ask selfishly. And don’t forget to ask for the needs of another. When you are done, close the prayer in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Flushing a light red, Rin took a deep breath. It was clear she was thinking about her mentor at the moment. "Oh… Thank you for explaining it to me. I'll have to have a word with him later."
“Mind if I come? I want to see what kind of person he is.” He dug back into his food with a hearty bite.
Cutting off another piece of meat, Rin smirked. "Sure. It couldn't hurt at least."
“Great! Oh, before I forget. You should come over tomorrow after school. We can talk with the others about the war then.”
Pausing with her fork halfway to her mouth, Rin was glad she hadn't been chewing. "... Right. I will do that then. Thanks for the offer."
“Anytime! Let’s finish eating, and then we can mess around with the kits we just got.
