July 17th, 1908.
It was a beautiful, sunny summer morning, just like any other in this time of the season. The meadow was strewn with dandelions, and a variety of fresh aromas filled the air as all kinds of flowers started to bloom. It had rained the night before, so the ground was still wet and water drops were dropping from plants, trees, and other sources... The citizens of Naples have begun waking up and getting ready for their daily tasks. The children ran around, accompanied by stray dogs and cats who were just as excited as they were. Everyone was busy with their own tasks: bakers were displaying freshly baked goods in the windows so that the entire city may admire their hard, wonderful labour. The newspaper delivery lad was distributing newspapers to every house in the city while riding his bike along the shore...
The young girl was still resting in her room, as the night before had been extremely stressful. Her black-haired cat Caesar slept quietly under her legs, coiled up like a ball, making him appear as if he were a nothingness. Because he felt safer with her, he always slept by her side. The brunette girl clung to her large, soft pillow, which helped her feel more at ease while sleeping. Until her brother, Rocco flung open the doors. He yelled at her to wake up, unconcerned that she was still sleeping. Marina ignored him since she didn't want to wake up and wanted to sleep some more. He grumbled angrily and rolled his green eyed eyes, irritated by her laziness.
Her brother began shaking her violently, causing her cat to become enraged and leap from the bed. He stopped her off, adding, "Mother and father called you for breakfast." The tired girl's face was in her pillow as she whispered, "Leave me alone, you're annoying—" She snatched up the silky white sheets and wrapped herself in them completely. Marina's brother walked away with his hands behind his back, adding "So long as you say so. I'm guessing I'll go to the city by myself then." The girl's eyes widened as she grabbed her sheets and threw them away, leaping out of bed as quickly as she could. " You should have said it earlier!" She continued. Marina loved going outside of her home, she always took every single opportunity to go out. As he sat down on her double-sized wooden canopy bed with long curtains and gorgeous etching, the young man chuckled, flinging back his blonde coloured hair.
Marina strolled over to her enormous closet and rummaged through all of her garments, unsure of what she should wear. She picked two outfits from a hanger, unsure which one would be better for her. " Ah, the blue one is too dismal, and the white one makes me look like I'm getting married. God, I hate it when I can't find a dress for such basic situations." she lamented. " I don't know, just hurry up." He added. She ultimately chose the white gown and grabbed her hat that had poppies attached on it. Marina tossed the clothing on her bed and was going to remove her long white cotton long sleeved nightgown when she realised her darling brother was there.
"Do you mind?"
"Mind what exactly?"
Marina grinned "I understand that we shared the same womb and that incest is a thing. However, I'm not interested in you in that sense."
"You're disgusting— " the boy muttered as he walked out of her chamber uneasily.
The girl waited for him to completely seal the doors so that no one could see her undress. She was finally alone. She began to gently pull up her long nightgown and remove it from her body. She tossed it on her bed for the maids to fold neatly because she wasn't very good at it nor did she wish to learn. Marina examined her reflection in the mirror, moving her gaze up and down her diminutive frame. She made an uneasy grimace with her hands on her chest, wishing she was more developed. The girl jolted awake and proceeded to put on her undergarments and long socks. Marina began altering her dress for a few moments until she was happy with it. She preferred to dress in simple, comfortable clothes rather than something more voluminous and inconvenient.
The girl noticed that her hair was still braided. She braids her hair before going to bed so that she wakes up with gorgeous curls. Marina sat on her bed, unbraiding her braids and inspecting herself in the mirror. She began humming as she worked, and soon she was finished and pleased with the appearance of her hair. The girl didn't feel like arranging her hair that day, so she braided on herself one long braid and was pleased with it. She as well added a lovely green ribbon on it for the finishing touch.
She got up, brushed her teeth, and prepared to meet up with her family. As she stepped out of her chamber, Rocco was standing by the doors, bored out of his mind
"Lovely blue ribbon but why did it take you so long?" He continued to tap the glass on his wrist watch, demonstrating how long she had been getting ready. Marina seemed unconcerned and walked away into the kitchen, prompting the impatient young man to pursue her and telling him it was green instead of blue, and the young man sighed in frustration. Marina's brother approached her and mocked her, saying, "No red stain on your lips or darkening your lashes today, I see."
"I wouldn't look like death right now if you hadn't rushed me."
"It's not as if it would make any difference." he muttered under his breath.
Marina locked her gaze on his, already irritated by his demeanour. When he mocked her, she detested it, but then again. She's the one who makes the most fun of him. As her brother was ready to inquire, "So, where's Mia?" she rolled her eyes and moaned as she gazed at the paintings and decorations in the hallway
"You mean your beloved?" Marina smiled.
"Who else could it be? When will she be able to join us?" He was intrigued. He had been thinking about her all morning and was nervous to see her. "I'm sorry. She told me she was going to spend the weekend with her parents."
He sighed and sighed again, feeling horrible. "I couldn't wait to spend the entire day with her... to see her lovely dark brown eyes, kind smile, and just her in general. We hardly see each other anymore because I've gotten so busy. And I planned something special for her today." The girl made a snide remark. "She, too, is occupied. Her family needs a great deal of assistance." He agreed, knowing how difficult it would be for both of them to see each other.
"I wanted to express my regret for yesterday."
"What do you mean? For what purpose?" She was perplexed.
"For disregarding you when you needed me last night." Rocco was ashamed; he had always promised her that he would always be there for her, no matter what. However, he had broken his vow the night before.. Marina put her hand on his shoulder, smiled, and reassured him that everything was great and that the other gals had mostly ignored her this time. They continued on their way to the dining area, conversing as they went.
