Chapter XIII

Chapter XIII

Apr 28, 2023

The young man moaned, unable to bear doing more tedious work with his father, who is quickly irritated by minor errors. And he was getting exhausted with his parents overworking him constantly. "See, even if you could go, I wouldn't be able to since I have things to do." he said to Marina. At that point, a maid arrived and began clearing the table, removing everyone's plates and washing them all in the kitchen. Marina paused for a moment, her gaze falling to the ground. "How about horseback riding?" she asked her parents, before shifting her gaze to Rocco.

"Riding a horse? Didn't you hear? I'm sorry, but I'm out of time."

"Yes, but... It'll be close to Vomero, among the streets and such. We'll also be really brief. Of course, provided both father and mother are in agreement." Their parents exchanged glances, unsure whether to allow them or not. Rocco was hesitant at first because he was afraid of being overworked later and because he wanted of his sister to be grounded fairly for once. When their parents answered no since Marina's behavior the night before was horrible, the girl burst into tears and exclaimed, "Why don't you love me!?" And threw tantrums like a little child.

The young lady would blame her parents' affection for her every time she was grounded. She made them believe that grounding her meant they didn't love her. Her father felt awful after hearing what she said, doubted himself as a good parent and kept telling her how much he loved her, but she kept denying it because he wasn't even on her side. Marina's scheme eventually worked, and she was able to persuade her parents to agree thanks to guilt tripping. Marina bit her lower lip with glee and became a whirlwind of action. She snatched her brother's arm and yanked him up while beaming as wide as she could. They were about to leave when their mother raised her voice and remarked in worry "Please be careful! Because of the rain from last night, the ground is extremely wet today! Go on the left side of the neighborhood." She then added "Oh! Be back before dinner! We're having guests today and I want you two to prepare your violin and flute!" Rocco was horrified to watch his sister exploiting her parents' love for her to the point where it had become routine.

The twins began strolling outside their home to the stable barn, where they hoped to find their horse and go on a ride. They were greeted by a foul odour of animal faeces as they arrived, which made both of them gag. Marina disliked the scent of animal farms and stables even though she adored animals and if she could, she wouldn't mind living with them. They split off to prepare their riding shoes, which were kept inside the stable. They kept it there in case they felt like going for a ride at any time. "Good day, dear cavallino. Mr. Rossi appears to have cleaned you up? You look so handsome now!" The girl continued to flatter her horse while petting his black coat, which glistened in the light due to how immaculate it was. She sat in a tiny wooden chair, removing her shoes and replacing them with her black riding shoes. When the girl was finished, she adjusted the black stallion's grazing muzzle and took the rope attached to it, leading the horse out of his stable and meeting Rocco outside of it. "Are you all set?" He inquired, wanting to ensure that they had completed all of their preparations and were ready to depart. The girl smiled and nodded, then hesitated for a bit before asking, feeling embarrassed, but eventually summoning the strength to do so. "Could you assist me in mounting the horse?"

"Of course?" Rocco asked, perplexed. "There isn't a lot of things to stand on."

"I meant," Marina said, making an embarrassed expression and crossing her fingers. The young man groaned and face palmed himself as hard as he could. "I climb on your hands and then you push me up." she said. He didn't want dirt on his clean hands because his sister is an idiot who is too short to hop on the horse by herself without assistance. He kept sighing and complaining that he didn't want to do it, but Marina's pushy side of herself insisted. When she stood up, she gazed down on him and said, "Was that so difficult, my brother?" Rocco raised his eyes to her, a cold expression on his face. "You're annoying." he said in the coldest voice he could muster. It took Rocco only a few moments to climb up on the horse, and after they were settled, they went for a calm ride. "God, mother and father know to get so bothersome sometimes." the girl complained. "You mean, you are?" he asked, raising his brow. Marina was taken aback and couldn't believe what he said. She annoying? When their parents don't comprehend her challenges and simply yell at her for whatever she does or says, it's their parents who are to blame. Rocco attempted to reason with her, telling her, "Look, I'm just saying. You, too, are not an angel. They rarely yell at you because you give them your gorgeous eyes, and when they do, you cry as if you were abused." Marina raised her hands in the air and began flattering them, saying, "Can we not talk about this? I don't want to sabotage our get-together." Because if he says anything, she'll attack him, the young man rolled his eyes and did what she said and thought that's the most peaceful option.
