The crew had arrived in Marseille an hour earlier. Everything about it was charming, just like the country of France itself. The sailors were getting ready to carry out the cargo, the captain was getting ready to drop the anchor in the sea, and the women on the ship were finishing up their daily cleaning.
"Aha! You were five minutes late for your estimated time of arrival, calculation!" Antoni yelled, his gaze fixed on his wristwatch. "Please, I didn't say we'd be here in exactly an hour," Mr. Santarelli responded. "You actually informed me that you're always right when it comes to ETA," his best pal sneered. "How did you get to be so smart and great?"
"My lord, you make me sound dreadful!" the captain pressed him. Marina was ecstatic when she heard that they had finally arrived. The girl dashed outdoors to the main deck and proceeded to gaze at the city. She was moved by the fact that she was actually traveling and seeing new sights, but she desired her brother could be there with her right now. The captain decided to approach the girl who was leaning too close to the banisters.
"You know, you shouldn't be leaning on them too much?" he said when approached. "What if you slip and fall? No one is going to jump down after you." Marina smirked and turned her head to him, "Oh please, I can save myself. I'm also not a child. I'm aware that I shouldn't lean in too far." The captain shrugged and allowed her to do as she pleased. He leaned against the banisters as well, taking in the view of the city. He inquired as to if this was the young lady's first visit to Marseille. "Yes." the girl said, and she described it as "wonderful." She then inquired as to whether this was his first time as well. "Mine? No, no, no. I've probably been here tens of thousands of times... I believe I've memorized the city at this point." Marina grinned as she returned her gaze to the harbor. She inhaled in the fresh air and smiled because it was a beautiful day.
The captain took off right away to unload the cargo and receive cash for delivering it. Marina, meanwhile, sighed, wishing she could go out into the city, but she knew they'd be off to another city soon enough. She proceeded to the kitchen to see if there was anything more that needed cleaning, and Gabriel and Antoni came in shortly after. They were all talking about something. Margherita was perplexed and inquired as to what they were discussing. Antoni responded by saying they were going to stroll into the city and possibly stop at a restaurant later that evening. Marina slammed a towel on the table, which she was holding. "City? Restaurant?"
"Yeah?" Antoni asked, perplexed. "However, it is nothing special. Would you like to join us?" This month, the girl was ecstatically delighted. Everything got worse and worse over the month of June. However, Antoni's invitation to dinner made her quite delighted. She dashed back to her cabin to change into something more appropriate for a walk. She didn't want to be seen out in public in her cleaning and cooking garments, and she also smelled a lot.
She went straight to the men after changing and styling her hair well. Antoni was taken aback when he saw her wearing the gown he had sewn for her.
"You're dressed in the gown I made for you! It was obvious to me that it would suit you. And the fact that I made it without taking your measures. Doesn't it look great? I have God's hands." he remarked, kicking Mr. Santarelli in the arm. "Yes, great," the captain said, "I don't want to eat at the restaurant at midnight, so may we leave now?" Marina smiled softly and nodded, thanking Antoni for the comments. But she couldn't keep them all because he was the one who sewed the gown and made her appear so lovely. As they all started heading out, Antoni asked if she had ever been to the city before. The girl shook her head and stated that she had never been to France. The Austro-Hungarian Empire was the only country she had visited previously. Since he had been here thousands of times and said he wanted to show Marina the best things to see in the city. He quickly took her hand in his.
Marina and Antoni had a lovely time together while the captain kept mumbling to himself. The man took her to numerous interesting places, such as parks, monuments, and lovely streets, which she adored. Everything she saw that day was breathtakingly gorgeous. She also loved the fact that Antoni kept her company. The young lady came upon a post office while walking. She paused for a moment before deciding to enter. Antoni and the captain was waiting for her outside, and when she came, she was holding a postcard in her hand. "Oh, you're going to send it to a friend?" He inquired. "I thought of keeping it to myself." Marina said. "Every new place I see serves as a type of reminder." As they walked, the curious man continued to ask her countless questions about her life, which she both liked and disliked. She enjoyed that she could open up to him, but she loathed the fact that she was embarrassed of herself.
She inquired to the captain about their plans for the evening. The captain's mate began to tell how they had planned to have a pleasant evening in a nearby restaurant. "Oh, that reminds me, aren't we supposed to leave tonight? Will we even be able to go to a restaurant?" She inquired. "We're leaving tomorrow," Mr. Santarelli said. "I have plenty of time to get to my next destination, so I decided to take a rest." Marina grinned at the thought. She could use a little more stretching now that she's on the ship, which isn't quite as relaxing as she had hoped. Marina noticed a boutique and her eyes expanded. She put her palms on the shop's window and continued to examine the shoes.
Her present ones are too large for her, so a new pair would be ideal. She entered right away and promptly exited with a new pair of shoes. "Where in the world did you obtain that much money for such shoes?" The captain said strangely. The girl was perplexed and inquired, "What do you mean?"
"You didn't even bother offering me any money to let you on a ship?" says Gabriel. "I basically let you stay for free."
"I thought you sailors were always in need of any kind of money because you know..." Marina remarked, puzzled. "It's a well-known fact that you sailors are poor and money-hungry. So I thought it would be the best to not even offer you any money or you might've robbed me, haha." The captain was offended at that point and looked to Antoni for a response. The man was perplexed by the girl's words, yet he couldn't help but laugh. Mr. Santarelli , on the other hand, felt hurt, particularly because he had been so generous to her, and yet she had insulted him in such a horrific way. Especially because she thinks that he'd rob her. The young girl was perplexed; she didn't understand why he became so enraged at her out of nowhere. Was it because of what she said that he felt this way? Most likely not, because he's pretty sensitive to anything she says. The captain took Antoni aside and informed him that he could no longer handle the girl and also that he really can not appear so polite to her when she was clearly disrespecting them.
"How do you keep your cool around her?" He stated
"Maybe because I'm accustomed to it? When we first met, you were the same. I recall you getting sick to your stomach at the prospect of being a sailor. You constantly whined about being one."
For a brief while, the captain became silent; he had forgotten that he had been the same when he was younger. Antoni placed his arm around his friend's shoulder stating, "Plus, if you get to know her, she's really nice and sweet. If you start being polite to her, I'm sure you'll like her more." Marina will eventually realize her mistakes eventually.
