Lights in the moor - Tales

Dragons of today

Dragons of today

May 07, 2023

Many hundreds of years ago, great dragons lived in the world. They were powerful creatures, with huge wings they flew through the air, breathing fire and spreading fear. They were known to accumulate riches, gold and precious stones, silver and much more. The dragons took these riches to their hoard and jealously guarded them. They never gave away even a part of their dragon hoard, and anyone who tried to steal from them paid an expensive price.

Today this is no longer the case. But just because the great dragons have disappeared, it does not mean that there are no more dragons and they no longer hoard treasures......

It was a sunny spring day, the sky was cloudless and the temperature was pleasant. People bustled on the streets of the small town, went to stores and cafes, and rejoiced in the beautiful day.

The people did not realize it, but they were being watched. A small creature kept changing its hiding place, and wherever it hid, the creature paid close attention to what people were saying and doing. Just now, it slipped behind a wall ledge, paused there briefly, and scurried up a nearby tree. It was barely bigger than a squirrel, with shiny green scales, long neck and tail, and fiery red eyes. No one noticed the little dragon, because if he didn't wanted to be seen, then no one noticed him.

He was looking for treasures for his hoard. Lately it had become more and more difficult to find something that would enrich his hoard. People had evolved in a way that made valuable things rare, and that made the little dragon very sad.

Last night he had come to the city, because now that it was spring, people were spending more time outside, and the nice weather would perhaps help to find something for his hoard.

Motionless, the dragon sat in the tree, watching the people near him closely. Then suddenly he felt a feeling of happiness rising inside him, he was in the right place at the right time!

A young man outside a cafe proposed to his boyfriend, who happily accepted. An elderly woman gave a homeless man a bottle of water, some money and had a friendly chat with him. Two small children were happily playing with the small dog their mother was leading on a leash.

Two old friends embraced each other laughing happily after not seeing each other for a long time. Friends talked about old times, the guests of a small restaurant thanked them for the good food. There was friendliness and happiness everywhere.

When the little dragon saw and heard all this, his heart pounded loudly with joy. His scales began to glow golden as he absorbed the positive energy and reflected it back to the people, which they did not see but must have felt inside.

Never would the little dragon forget all that he had seen and heard today, it would always remain a part of him, and these memories made his treasure hoard grow tremendously.

For it was not gold or precious stones that made up his treasure, but positive emotions such as love, kindness and goodness, and the bigger the hoard was, the more happiness the dragon brought back to the people.

And this made his hoard more valuable than all the riches in the world.
