A knock on the door leads to a wonderful night of catching up, telling stories, and eating dinner. Menzost and Adamars sudden visit left Menzosts parents in shock with them scurrying around trying to make accommodations. As Menzost talks to his parents, Adamar sits silently as a child sits next to his parent but in this case, it's Husband and husband.
“So how was the tavern,” Menzost asks his parents knowing that Adamar told him that they had come in to celebrate.
“By goodness, it was grand” his mother exclaims while looking at Adamar. “Those pastries were nothing less than divine and the signature drink was exquisite.”
“Well thank you. It's an honor to hear that. It really is” Adamar exclaims “Menzost and I took too long doing trial and error for it to come crashing in our faces.” Adamar says and everyone starts laughing.
“You got that right for sure.’ Menzost says. “It took us months to figure out the pastry alone better than the cocktail which took almost three.”
“That's a commitment there that's for sure,” Menzosts father says, this had been the first thing that he had said all night.
“That's for sure Dad,” Menzost says while feeling a judgemental stare from his father. His mother was his main support system as his father wasn't in his life for most of his childhood. It wasn't until he started his teenage years that his father was present. The lack of bonding throughout those years made Menzost realize that his mother will be with him regardless of what he does or who he is with.
“Alright, thanks, Mom.” Menzost says “I think we are going to start heading to bed. We have to head to Norwich starting in the morning.”
“Alright, sweetie. Don't forget to say goodbye to us in the morning and make sure you stop by on your guys' way home.” His mother says leading them to Menzosts childhood room in which they were to stay for the night.
“Goodnight Mom. Love you” Menzost says in unison with Adamar.
“Aww, goodnight boys. I love you both.” Menzosts mother says.
As the smell of dew and wet grass fills the early morning air. The sunshine just ever so slightly peaking into Menzosts childhood room to carefully caress both Menzosts and Adamars faces.
“The sunlight is a perfect view right now babe,” Adamar says while having his morning voice to sit up nearly smacking his head on the shelf above the bed.
“It surely is hun. It's even better with you here that's for sure.” Menzost exclaims while leaning toward Adamar to give him a morning kiss.
“Do you smell that babe?” Adamar asks as he smells Menzosts favorite breakfast dish being made.
“I do. I guess Mom is making my favorite for us before we head out.” Menzost says “I think that's really funny.”
“What's that babe,” Adamar asks as if he is out of the loop on the current jokes.
“It's just that Dad hates the smell of it and she's making it specifically for us,” Menzost says as he starts to get out of bed and stretch.
“That really is funny babe. I swear your mother is a godsend some days. She just lets us crash whenever we need and she cooks without us asking her to.” Adamar says while staring at Menzosts naked physique in the sunlight before he puts his clothes back on.
“She's an amazing woman, friend, and a better mother. I wish you could've had her for as long as I have had. You will truly learn to appreciate the small things with her.” Menzost says while putting his clothes on to see Adamar doing the same.
As they make their way down the hall and towards the kitchen. Menzosts mother is standing at the stove cooking porridge while Menzosts father stays in the corner by an open window wafting fresh air as if he is dying.
“You okay Dad?” Menzost asks as he is holding back his laughter while watching his dad.
“No! Im not!” He exclaims “The smell is making me sick”
“You'll be fine Dad. We will be gone before you know it and the food will be too.” Menzost says while trying not to laugh at his own father.
“Good. Maybe that'll help my sanity,” his father says. Menzost doesn't know whether he is talking about them or the porridge. Regardless, they will be leaving soon and they will be on their way to Norwich to be finding answers to all this.
As they all sit down to eat, Menzosts father is the only one not eating porridge but yet a piece of bread with butter laid across it. They finish eating and Menzost and Adamar gather their things to leave.
“It was nice seeing you Mom,” Menzost says. “You too Dad”
“It was nice seeing you too hunny, also you Adamar.” Menzosts mother said while giving Adamar a hug and a kiss on the cheek as she did to Menzost.
“We will stop by when we get back,” Adamar says as they head for the door.
They make their way outside to find that the sunlight has faded into a deep cloudy sky. It feels ominous as they look towards the mountains of Shendon in which the capital city of Norwich is alongside Shendon Castle, the place in which they believe Iden was referring to.
“Those clouds are pretty dark over there babe,” Adamar says while they continue to walk down the path leading to Norwich.
“That's for damn sure hun. Let's just hope it doesn't get too bad by the time we get there.” Menzost says as Adamar has a bigger pep in his step than the day prior. “It also seems like you've had some speed today.”
“I just want to get this over with babe. I am tired of Iden's games and all of the things that he has done to our family.” Adamar says while fighting back his tears as he continues to walk down the beaten path. “He has taken Gascon from us, he's come into our tavern, and now he's been following us because how else would he know about the books we checked out.”
“That's true hun, Let's just keep walking. We should get there by nightfall if we continue at this pace.” Menzost says as he almost trips over a rock that was sticking up from the path.
As they continue walking towards Norwich, they sense an ominous feeling of dread as if something bad has happened. While staring towards Norwich, they see that the main spire of Shendons Castle has been lit aflame as lightning struck it.
