Olivia stepped off the train onto the platform in her hometown of Salzburg, Austria.
The familiar sights and sounds of her childhood fooded her senses as she gazed at the quaint buildings and cobblestone streets.
The scent of freshly baked pastries emanating from the nearby bakery made her smile and reminisce about simpler times.
As Olivia ambled down the street, she pondered upon Alex, whom she hadn't seen for years. She contemplated whether he still lived there in Salzburg, but dismissed the idea as being far-fetched. Olivia was here for a reason; she was determined to fnish her novel for NaNoWriMo, but her mind kept drifting back to Alex.
She couldn't help wondering what might have been if they had pursued a relationship back when they were both college students.
The vibrant leaves rustled underfoot, a reminder that time had passed, and much had changed since she last set foot in Salzburg.
Nonetheless, some things remained unchanged, such as the fondness Olivia held for Alex. Olivia turned the corner onto the main square and glimpsed someone through the window of a nearby coffee shop.
Her heart raced as she recognized Alex sitting at a table by the window.
Her mouth fell open in disbelief; she hadn't anticipated seeing him so soon. She hesitated before pushing open the door and stepping inside.
The aroma of fresh coffee wafted over to her as Alex caught sight of her - his expression transformed from one of guarded composure to a warm and welcoming smile.
"Olivia," he said softly, his voice melodious with surprise. "I can't 6believe it's really you." Olivia's heart pounded; she fustered momentarily before regaining her composure and saying with a smile, "It's been such a long time."
They embraced each other tightly as if they were college students once again - carefree and without any responsibilities.
The world seemed distant and irrelevant at that moment. As they pulled away from each other, Alex's gaze softened. "You look incredible," he said, his voice brimming with tenderness.
Olivia's heart futtered as she whispered, "Thank you. You look pretty amazing too." In that instant, they both seemed to know that something extraordinary was about to happen between them. They sat down at a nearby table, their eyes locked in a silent conversation as they sipped coffee and chatted about old times.
Olivia's heart palpitated as she contemplated the future; she wondered whether this could be the start of something new with Alex.
As the sun began to set and their coffee cups lay empty on the table, Olivia realized that she had missed being around Alex's warmth and laughter.
Alex seemed lost in thought, staring out the window. Olivia reached out and gently touched his hand, bringing him back to reality. "Is everything okay?" she inquired, concerned. Alex took a deep breath and looked back at her, his eyes brimming with emotions. "I'm sorry, Liv. I didn't mean to drift off like that." Olivia smiled reassuringly. "It's okay. You can tell me anything." Alex hesitated for a moment before fnally opening up.
He shared personal stories from his childhood; his fears and insecurities along with the struggles he faced over the years.
Olivia listened intently, feeling honored by his trust and the privilege of hearing such personal details about him.
She could sense that he was slowly letting down his guard and allowing her to see behind the façade 7he projected to the world. As they said their goodbyes and parted ways for the evening, Olivia felt hopeful about the future.
She knew there was still a long road ahead for them both, but she was willing to take that journey with Alex - wherever life may lead. Days turned into weeks, and Olivia and Alex met up frequently, reminiscing about old times and sharing their hopes, dreams, and fears for the future. Olivia felt her heart being drawn to Alex's charismatic personality each day.
One evening, as they sat down by the riverbank watching the sunset, Alex leaned in closer to Olivia. "Sometimes, Liv, I feel like we're missing out on something.
I care about you deeply, and I don't want to live a life without you in it," he said, his voice flled with tenderness. The shooting stars appeared again in the sky as Olivia's heart skipped a beat. In that moment, she knew what Alex was trying to say. "I feel exactly the same way," she said gently, turning to face him. In that moment, they both knew that their friendship had blossomed into something else - something beautiful and pure.
They kissed under the stars, and it felt like all the pieces of the universe had aligned into one perfect moment.
From that day forward, they started dating, going out to dinners and watching movies together. They knew that they had been given a second chance at love and were not going to let it go to waste. As the days passed into months and months into years, they grew to know each other even more intimately.
They learned each other's strengths and weaknesses, desires and fears- everything it took to build a life together.
On their wedding day in Salzburg's grand cathedral flled with loved ones from across Europe, they exchanged vows which would signify the 8beginning of a new adventure - one flled with love, laughter, joy and an endless pursuit of each other's happiness.
Olivia knew that Salzburg would always be home to her - for it was here where her dreams came true in every sense of the word.
They had found everything they needed where they least expected it - under Salzburg's stars.
