Chapter 1

Chapter 1

May 17, 2023

Have you ever wanted to wake up in a completely different world and escape everything?

Well, that's what happened to Miles. Miles Damien Sonterra was his full name.

He used to be an average, quiet guy in an average world like the one we live in now.

During school breaks, he'd usually prefer to read, listen to music or draw in his notebook, instead of hanging out with the others. He wasn't good at talking to strangers or opening up and therefore had a hard time making friends. The only people he was really comfortable with were his younger sister and mother.

Now, you'd probably think that when his classmates, or anyone else for that matter, saw him sitting alone all of the time, someone would come up and say hello, right? Well you're wrong. Well, not completely wrong, some have come up to him and tried to be his friend when he just started, but they didn't stay for long. The most common reason for them to leave was because they thought he seemed cold and weird, at least that's what he overheard from when they were talking about him to their friends. Since then, people thought he was a freak and didn't want to talk to him. It's not that they bullied him or made fun of him to his face, they just didn't talk to him and only talked shit about him behind his back.

Since he wasn't good at talking or making friends, he thought that he at least could be good at school. He had pretty good grades in all subjects, even sports, though he often hated it. No particular reason, he just didn't like it. It seemed quite weird, since he went to archery, went for a jog every other day and went to the gym every once in a while.

Now, on this specific day, the school seemed pretty weird. It just wasn't like it usually was. The teachers didn't call on him, not even once, even if he was the only one with his hand raised, and it felt like everyone was ignoring him, or as if they didn't even know that he was there.

When he came home, he got even more confused.

"Mom, I'm home!" he yelled, taking off his shoes and going straight to his room like he usually did.

When he came to have dinner a few hours later, his mother, Olivia, said: "Oh, Miles, you're home! I thought you were at the library studying. Why didn't you tell me you were home?"

Miles looked at her with a confused look while he went over to help her: "But I didn't go to the library? I came straight home, I even yelled: 'Mom, I'm home' "

"Oh, I'm sorry dear, I must've not heard you. Well, let's not worry about that. How was school today?" she asked while putting the food on the table.

"It was a bit weird. It was like nobody noticed me, not even the teachers," Miles answered, helping her with the cups and plates.

"Oh, well, that sounds pretty weird. It's probably nothing though, tomorrow, everything will be like usual."

"Yeah, I hope so too. Should I get Father and Emma?"

"Sure, dear, but your father has a meeting, so he won't be home before 9. Your sister's in her room."

"Okay, I'll go get her then."

Miles opened the door to his sister's room and started turning on and off the light. He and his sister Emma had been pretty good friends all their lives, but of course they still acted like normal siblings. Who doesn't like annoying their siblings a little bit?

"What do you want?" Emma asked, not looking up from her phone.

"Dinner's ready," Miles answered, looking at Emma's phone.

"Okay," Emma answered again, still not looking away from her phone.

"Okay," Miles repeated, before running over to take her phone, "Who are you texting? Your boyfriend~?"

“No! I’m texting Ania! Now give it back!” she yelled at him. Miles knew that she probably had a crush on Ania, so he simply said:”Your girlfriend then?” and before Emma had a chance to answer, he ran out the door and down the stairs.

"Come back, asshole!" Emma yelled, running after him.

"Emma, don't call your brother an asshole," their mother said, turning around to face them both.

"But he took my phone!"

"Miles, give your sister her phone back and stop fighting."

"Fine," Miles said, giving his sister her phone back and sitting down in his seat so they could eat.

"Good. Emma, sit down so we can start eating."

"Okay."

Despite his age, Miles had always enjoyed annoying his sister. That was one of the few requirements he had as her older brother.

"Goodnight, sweetie, dream sweet," Miles' mother said before closing the door to Miles' room so they could sleep.

"Goodnight, Mom."

After his mother had closed the door, he slowly started drifting to sleep.

Miles was later woken up by a group of people mumbling and mumuring around him.

"Wait, quiet! He's waking up! Hey, how are you feeling?" he heard someone with a feminine and soothing voice ask. When he opened his eyes, he saw a lady hovering over him. His eyes immediately opened wide as he jumped up with horror, crawling backwards, only to bump into someone else.

"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay?" Miles looked around to see yet another girl who looked a little younger than himself. When he looked around he realised that he was surrounded by girls and women, who all looked extremely poor.

"Wh- who are you?"

Imagine going to sleep like normal, but you wake up in a world completely different world than your own.
Well, that's what happened to Miles.
He used to be a normal guy in a normal world, but ended up in a different world where he needed to get to a magical portal so he could get back home. Little did he know, that would end up falling in love with someone, he could possibly never be with.
