I woke up to the voices of people on the town square, I looked through the windows and saw that it was already noon. How much did I sleep? I didn´t even noticed when I felled asleep, at least those militaries weren’t looking for me now. I got out of what I call my home and started to walk around the city with caution and always with an eye on my back.
When night falls in Hyakugi thing get interesting, I’m talking about the night market. A market where you can find anything and everything, especially illegal things. I enjoy going there because people with The Spark hang there and spend some time being able to use those powers. To get to the night market you must be invited by someone, and I got invited by Chiko. Everyone there knows me and respects me, feels kind of good.
I got to a building located a few blocks away from the square, when I got to the door I knocked and a person peeked through the door window, I showed them my wrist which had a tattoo of a moon and a star. They let me in, and I entered to the building hall, then the same guy from the door took me to a back room and behind a hidden door that looked like a bookshelf. I’ve always been surprised that the militaries didn’t know about this place and tried to break in.
We got down some stairs into a type of sewers, it looked like an under city. Few people where there and all of them were covered to the eyes, including the sellers. As always, there were few people with guns as for protection. I walked down the alley in the search of a specific store and, in just a few minutes of walking I got there and stood in front of the table full of different objects, some I have never seen and others that I’ve only heard from Chiko. I looked at the stuff and a rounded black disc caught my attention. “What thi?” The shop owner looked at me and said, “It was called a vinyl, people used to listen to them on an old machine.” It sounded amazing but expensive for sure. I kept looking on what he had to offer and inside of one box I found what I was looking for, a pack of crayons. “Ho much fo tha craons?” He looked at me from head to toes and said, “For you will be just 2 Neomenia.” It was a nice price and for sure I had the money, so I bought them.
I kept going around the market in the search of more stuff I could buy, it started to get colder, so I covered my torso with my cape. It was normal to have really low temperatures during the night but, you would never get used to it. “Hey kiddo!” I hears one of the sellers call me so I got closer to his table; he had a bunch of weapons on the table, big guns, small guns, knives, etc… “What are you looking for?” His eyes met mine in a cold and awkward silence that I broke saying, “Some thi.” He smiled and crossed his arms in front of his torso. “Your accent is different from most of the people around here.” I imitated him, crossing my arms too, “It soun nomal to my.” He kept looking at me. “It’s not normal but, I’ve heard it before.” I raised one eyebrow. “Wha ya takin about?” He turned around and started looking inside one of the boxes he had, I was confused, I’ve never been told that I had a weird accent.
He turned around again looking at me, in his hand he had an envelope. “Your name is Tesh, right?” I was astonished, things were becoming weirder and weirder… “Someone told me to give you this.” I looked at his eyes hiding any emotion. “How ya no it’s my an not otha person?” He laughed. “Short, white hair, green eyes, and funny weird accent. I´m sure it’s you.” Who was this guy and who sent him? This was very suspicious. “This letter is supposed to get to you, someone gave it to me in Grinminger.” My eyes were wide opened, and I extended my arm reaching for the envelope. He gave it to me, and I opened it, inside there was a drawing that I instantly recognized.
The drawing was made by Chiko, I got excited for finally hearing about him. He got arrested five years ago and ever since them I haven’t heard from him. As I never went to school and never learned how to read and write, we used to communicate with drawings, it was also helpful because the militaries that read the mail would only think they have no meaning. Chiko basically raised me and when he went missing, I got really worried.
I looked carefully to the drawing; the big building meant city, the pinnacle meant Grinminger, so far, he said he was in the city of Grinminger. He drew himself inside a cell meaning he was in prison but, the drawing next to it meant that he was going to die because he was a Beta. My eyes started watering and I turned the paper around looking for more drawings but all I could find was a bunch of letters that I couldn´t understand. I went around the table and aggressively gave the shop owned the paper and said, “Rea it to my.” His face changed into a worried one and took the paper. “Okay but we better sit down.” He gave me a stool and we both sat in a different one, then he started reading the letter.
