Lonely soul

Lonely soul

May 14, 2023

Oliver was an ordinary teen. Not remarkable in any way. He had freckles dotted across his pale face framed by is black curly hair ,maybe that was something, but still his personality was rather plain. He enjoys the basic things that most teens do, music, food and going out with friends, if he had any. He had to start fresh with the friends category. But would anyone like him? It was a new town, a new school that he would be starting after the vacation ended. Not to mention his new house is haunted.

Earlier that morning, after waking up, he thought he had spotted a person in the corner of his new room, just out of the corner of his eye. He thought he had spotted them again, the side of a blonde head of hair in the reflection of the aged, but clean bathroom mirror.

It was evening but he didn't want to go home yet, he still had boxes to unpack, clothes to organize and far too many rooms to sweep ,as his mother had requested. He wanted to get away. His mind wandered and so did his feet. He thought about his group of friends back home, some of the very few he ever had. He missed them. He wished that things could go back the way they were before. Then he stopped. He found himself along the shore of a lonely beach, looking back at his footprints he could see them trail back to the rundown boardwalk he had started at, but when he turned back around to fully observe his surroundings there was suddenly someone else, a boy about his age or a bit younger, with an oddly familiar head of blonde hair. Before he could question where the boy had come from the boy spoke, “Oliver right?” he asked in a calmly. Oliver hesitantly nodded in confirmation. The boy continued, “Y’know I used to live there.” Oliver was visibly confused. “That house you live in now? It used to be mine but I guess my mom sold it since I went missing.” Oliver had no words. ”This beach is where I died.” Oliver was stunned.  “Right over by those rocks.” He gestured behind him and in the distance there was a fairly tall rock, seagulls flocking over it. “I've been stuck here for years. No one comes to this side of the beach.” He hesitated, “No one bothered checking for me over here.” He grew quiet. “Visit me will you?” He showed a faint smile. The sudden squawk of a seagull flying overhead averted Oliver’s eyes, surprised. When he looked back the boy was gone. No friends or family to find him. Another Lonely soul.

This was an essay I had to do for my english class, loved the concept but didn't get to explore as much as i wanted to because we had a word count (that i didn't end up keeping anyway).
