Nikki was awakened by a familiar scent. Rain has returned. Nikki's joy was evident as she pressed her face against Rain's.
"Aw, Nikki, I miss you too," Rain said. Sara smiled as she looked at each of them.
"Thank you for looking after them," Rain said.
"It's my pleasure, Nikki misses you terribly," Sara stated.
Nikki, Shawn, and Jane went to their cages and are now returning home with Rain. Nikki stretches as soon as she steps out of the cage. She went to Rain's room and rested on her bed, missing the house and everything.
A week has passed. Someone patting Nikki on the cheek jolted her awake. She opens her eyes and notices Shawn. Nikki also noticed Jade on Rain's partially opened door. She looked at Rain and noticed that she was fast asleep. When the three of them exited the room, they noticed Rain's parents planning a surprise for her 16th birthday. Rain's favorite breakfast foods were on the table. Despite the fact that her parents were leaving for work, they decided to prepare a surprise breakfast for her. Nikki returned to Rain's room and woke her.
"Rain, wake up!" Nikki exclaimed, shoving her front paws against Rain's face.
"Ugh, Nikki... stop," Rain muttered as she turned on her side, and Nikki fell down.
"Shawn! Help!" shouted Nikki, and Shawn dashed into the room. He climbed the bed and faced Rain.
"Rain! It's morning already! I'm hungry! Breakfast!" Shawn demanded, but all Rain heard were Shawn's loud meows, to all of them, he is the loudest and always hungry. Rain opened her eyes and began to pet Shawn. Nikki noticed it and positioned herself in front of Rain's face, attempting to grab her attention.
"Nikki you're too close, why are you so clingy today? I mean you're always clingy, so never mind." Rain said and hugged Nikki.
"Rain?" someone asked as the door opened.
Rain's mother asks, "Breakfast?"
Later. The morning is still on as Rain is taking the trash outside. On the front gate, she noticed a familiar fur. She dashed over to the gate and noticed an elderly cat sitting outside.
"Meave!" Rain dashed over to her and patted Meave's head and she began to purr.
"It's been a long time and it's my birthday, are you here to greet me, Meave?" Rain smiled as Meave reacted with a quiet meow.
"I'll feed you inside. Let's go. I'll introduce you to my other friends." Rain took up Meave and led her inside to see everyone.
Rain puts Meave down and walks towards the kitchen as they enter the house. Meave entered and noticed someone asleep on the kitchen mat.
"Jade..." Meave called out faintly. She dashed outdoors and began running.
"Meave?" Rain called, searching the living room but seeing no trace of Meave.
Meave made it outdoors and had a look at Scott's residence. Seeing Jade reminds her of the past, and she can't stomach what happened. Abandoning them and not looking back is the thing she regrets.
"Are you... Meave?" she stopped, turning her gaze to Nikki.
"Reese?" Meave asked.
"She must be my mother, isn't she?" Nikki inquired.
"Must? You didn't know your own mother? Reese?" Meave was confused. She assumed that Reese was living happily with her daughter, but this turned out to be wrong.
"Do you happen to know where --"
Meave ran away from Nikki before she could finish her sentence.
"Meave wait!" Nikki tried to run but was caught by Rain.
"Hey Nikki, I'm supposed to introduce you to an old friend, where have you been?" Rain asked, hugging Nikki in her arms.
Nikki returned her gaze to Meave. A number of unanswered questions lingered. The only thing she can do is look for her.
The moon tonight isn't visible when night falls. Nikki is still expecting Meave to appear in front of the house, but she is disappointed.
"Hey, why are you always looking up at the night sky, looking for the moon? I thought you hated going out," Shawn said as he entered.
"I just need to find someone, she might know the answers to all of my questions."
"Who?"
"Meave. I'm guessing she's my mother's close friend, like my biological mother."
"Why not just ask Jade?"
"I tried, but she doesn't know anyone other than that name."
"Well, I know someone, but I'm terrified," Shawn suggested, turning Nikki's head towards him.
The two make their way to Sara's house.
"Do you mind if you go by yourself? I'm still afraid of him," Shawn said.
"Who are you afraid of?" a voice asked, staring both Nikki and Shawn down.
"Oh, hello Dean," Nikki said.
"Gotta go!" said Shawn as he dashed back home.
"You scared him," Nikki replied, looking at Shawn as he ran home.
"What do you need?" an irritated Dean asked.
"I just wanted to ask you a question, you know almost every cat in this place, especially the females, do you know anyone named Meave?" Dean's aura darkened as he looked at Nikki.
Dean walked away, saying, "I don't know anyone by that name."
"Really? Then could you please help me find her?" Nikki asked.
"Why bother me, ask Ian for that favor," Dean said as he continued walking.
"Ah...! help! He's hurting me," Nikki exclaimed.
Dean looks back and finds Nikki on the floor, but he can see she's just acting.
"What are you doing?" Dean irritably asked.
"Psst..." Dean peeked out the window into Sara's room. Sara uses this to frighten the cats and prevent them from fighting. If she happens to hear it again. She'll take a look out the window. He can't be caught in a misunderstanding, or he won't be able to go out the next moon night.
Dean yelled, "Nikki! Stop that!"
"I'll scream louder if you don't help me, if Sara hears us, she'll side with me... Sara, help!" Nikki's meow grew louder. Sara's window opened just as she was ready to look out...
"All right, I'll help you if you just stop," Dean begged.
"OK," Nikki said as she hurried and hid in the bush.
"Dean?!" Sara exclaimed. Looking down, she noticed Dean sitting in the house's walkway.
"What?!"
"Did you bully someone else again?!"
"I didn't - Ah! Why bother explaining when she can't understand me!!"
Sara threatened, closing the window, "If I really caught you doing that, you're grounded." Nikki emerged from her hiding place and faced Dean.
"Come on, let's find her," Nikki stated as she walked away. Dean didn't seem to be following her. Nikki looked back at Dean, compared earlier, he seemed sad.
"Or perhaps... tomorrow night?" Dean turned and proceeded towards his house after Nikki said that.
"See you tomorrow night, Dean," Nikki worriedly murmured.
Dean entered the house and went upstairs to Sara's room. He walked up to the window and looked out at the silent night.
The night has fallen once more, this time the moon night. Nikki and Dean go off to town in search of Meave.
"It might be difficult to find her because I haven't seen her in human form," Nikki said, "but do you really not know anyone named Meave?"
"Are we going to talk about it again?" Dean asked.
"Okay, I understand you said no, but could you please help me find her? You're driving them away with your grumpy expression when I'm trying to ask something. Tell me, what happened?"
"It's none of your business," he said, and they continued walking.
"I have an idea, let's go see Gareth, he might know Meave," Nikki said as she went quickly. She can't wait to get all of her questions answered.
She arrived at Gareth's store. Blake is busy cooking the fish as usual, while Gareth manages the customers.
"Hey Gareth!" greeted Nikki.
"Nikki! I'm glad you're here. Where's Shawn?" Gareth asked.
"Home, annoying Rain."
"Oh, your owner has arrived? Tell them to come visit, and I'll give them a discount."
"They had no idea about any of this."
"Really? When the time comes, sit down and Blake will take your orders."
"Actually, Gareth, I just wanted to ask you something."
"Ask? Sure, what exactly is it?"
"Do you know anyone named Meave?" Gareth was taken aback when he heard the name.
"Meave? I haven't heard that name in a long time, I still can remember how majestic she is."
Dean murmured, "Eh, gross."
"As far as I know, she has already left town and hasn't been seen since that incident a year ago, I'm sorry Nikki, but I can't help you with this," Gareth explained. Nikki's expression changes with disappointment.
"It's fine, Gareth, thank you for the information." Nikki walks away, and Dean follows.
"So you're going to give up?" Dean asked.
"Of course not. Gareth knows about Meave, and I met someone who knows her, so I have a chance of finding Meave. Let's just ask a couple more questions, Dean, and don't scare them away."
"For the second time," Dean complained, "I'm not."
While the two were strolling, they encountered the four brothers smiling and carrying goods.
"Look who's here!" exclaimed Asher.
Hunter greeted the two with "Nikki! Hi!"
"Hey, guys. Nice to see you after what, weeks?" Nikki exclaimed.
"Yeah, we've been busy since we met Charlie, and he's been a big help to us. How about you? Babysitting?" Oliver asked, looking at Dean. Dean becomes even more irritated as the four of them chuckle.
"I'm not sure if you'll be able to laugh after I kick your ass, Oliver," Dean remarked, looking at the four of them.
"Don't mind him. We just need to do some things. Wanna help?" Nikki asked the four.
"We're actually busy. We need to help Charlie with something, so if you want to tag along with us and we can help you out later, the more the merrier," Oliver suggested.
"Nikki, the time is ticking, we don't have all night to chit-chat," Dean grumbled.
"Sorry guys, everything will be done later," Nikki added.
"Well, then. See you next time, Nikki." The five said their goodbyes and parted ways.
Hunter asked his brothers, "Did we forget to buy something?"
"The last item on the list is..." Oliver went over Charlie's list.
"At... Gareth's place. Charlie said Meave likes the grilled mackerel there. It's our last stop." Nikki and Dean froze when they heard her name. Nikki chased the brothers after they both turned back.
"Asher, what did you just say?" Nikki said, blocking their path.
"Oh... hello, Nikki, what do you mean?"
"Meave... Do you know her?"
"Yeah, she's Charlie's vis--"
"I'll go along with you."
