The two mean girls
Duration: 2 episodes
Macey's pov
Just like every morning, I get up and I do my propitious routine. I always need to be the perfect girl, be beautiful they say.
Do I need to wear mascara, put some lipstick on, the full makeup, and straighten my hair too? Then, put on the best outfit I've got with my signature semi-hidden blouse and my signature smile.
Maybe in another world I wouldn't but in my world, I have to. You see, I'm not just any ordinary girl. I'm Macey Stover a part of the most popular girl group of the whole school. People love me just like I love them, ok maybe not everyone but it doesn't matter as long as I'm popular.
Have I always been popular? Not always. Well, not until I met the number one girl in our school, April Newton.
I met her when we were in kindergarten. Like the go-getter she was, she asked me to join her gang. She didn't have any gang, through mesmerized as I was with that blond devilish smiling girl, I said yes.
Ever since that day, we have been inseparable. We are two peas in a pond. I can't imagine a world without her there. If not being in the same class is already bad for me, I don't want worse. My success depends on April.
She likes being in the spotlight and being the center of attention, I can't help but want to follow her in everything she does and just be like her.
I know I'm privileged to get on her good side. Yeah, April can be quite mean when she wants to be, she's known for being not only a gossip girl but a troublemaker everywhere she goes. She doesn't get any consequences thanks to her popularity. She's the girl everyone wants to be.
April and I aren't the only ones in our gang. Over the years, two more girls joined our perfect girl squad, Carly Sheffield and Kelsey Wilmington.
Sure when we were younger April and I got along with plenty of people, girls too, though April rejected any girls except me. In her ideal world, we were going to be the perfect popular girl group. She didn't accept just anybody, she only accepted people like us.
It was in 4th grade when Carly was the new kid, that she automatically got on the good side of April as she was a sweet shy girl. She was everything April wanted in a girl. So, April adopted her into our gang. We became a trio.
It was in 8th grade when Kelsey became one of us. That year Kelsey was the hit girl. She was extremely popular with guys and made them fall to their knees. She could do anything, she was cool like that. At first, April was jealous about it but rapidly realized she wanted her in our gang. So, this is where we became the gang we know today, the girls everyone wishes to be.
Thus, this means in the end that April's dream came true and she loves every second of it. So, I on her side, always did everything to make her happy. It's always been like that. Carly and Kelsey are on our side and I am there for April in everything she does.
So, it's no surprise that I wait outside for her to come get me in her car for the first time, she got her drivers licence this weekend.
It sucks that I haven't reached 16 yet or else I would've done the same for her. At least, my birthday is right around the corner.
I notice her blue Jeep and her in the driving seat. I would recognize that long blond hair anywhere.
She honks with the steering well once she notices me.
"Stover get in!" She yells out and I smile as I run to get in the passenger seat. She starts the car as we leave my house in the direction of Carly's house.
"Gosh, your car looks awesome!"
"Yeah, I look good in it right?"
"Yeah totally! I can't wait till I can get it too!"
"Your birthday is right around the corner isn't it?" She may seem to have forgotten my birthday but she always likes to say things like that. She knows everything about me anyways.
"Yeah, October 18th, I definitely can't wait for that."
"Me neither. You'll get the best sweet sixteen ever!" I remember flashbacks from Carly's sweet sixteen last summer. Gosh, we had a blast there.
"Yeah!"
She drives some more till a brunette gets in the back, Carly.
"Oh wow! You look so good in your car!" Carly says excitedly.
"Yeah, I look awesome just like that." April smiles brightly with her perfect white teeth.
She leaves Carly's entry parking lot and drives to Kelsey's. It doesn't get long to get there till a strawberry blond girl gets out of her house chewing bubblegum and gets in the back seat with Carly.
She always does this. It's a part of Kelsey's signature even if it's outdated. She's as cool as that.
"Hey, cool Jeep April."
"Yeah, I finally get to drive it, it was about damn time."
"Yeah, I wish I could drive too and get to bring some guys to smooch with." She wiggles her eyebrows as she smirks.
"Kels you don't know even have a car." April bluntly remarks as she leaves the driveway in the direction of the school.
"Well, I got to start my lessons first." Kelsey retorts back.
"Oh, don't show off that you're older than me by a month, no one wants to hear it." April scoffs.
Thank goodness Kelsey is one of us because I think April would have demolished her in an instant.
"Still older than you." She smiles all proud of herself.
"If I may ask where's your car?" Carly asks.
"Pardon me, I don't have the money to buy one of those." She says smugly. Kelsey surely knows how to stand her ground with sarcasm.
"Yeah probably because you spend it on clothes." April grimaces.
"You're such a scumbag April!"
"And you're a slut." Damn...Why is it always like that between them?
"I guess I am proud of that." She waves her mid-length strawberry hair.
Those two continue bickering all over the drive to school while Carly and I bother listening to them. Most people would call each other enemies at this point but those two don't want to admit it because they like each other. Kelsey just likes to get on everyone's bad side just for the sake of it, even more so April.
We arrive at school all four together and immediately everyone turns to us. Guys' jaw drops in awe, girls look at us all jealous.
"Another Monday another slay right girls?" Kelsey says.
"Yeah totally!" I surprisingly yell out.
"I bet they still can't get over my new car, which it was me."
We all walk side by side and get to April's locker. Immediately, some guys come in our direction. Through, only one of them can manage to approach the one and only April and that's Mathias Cornell with his frizzy chestnut brown hair closely followed by his redhead friend Issac Stones.
Mathias bangs his hand on the locker next to April's and smiles at her as if we weren't there.
"Hey, April, looking pretty sharp today aren't we?" He smiles.
"Won't you shut up already?" April retorts back harshly but his smile remains.
"Quite the talker today. What's got you so feisty like that?" He grins.
"Maybe you could get it into your little head of yours that you are in fact ruining my Monday." She says straight to his face. His smile twitches as he tries to keep it there.
"Hey Cornell if you quite desire, I'm available," Kelsey says snuggly.
"Yeah, no thanks," Mathias says smiling awkwardly.
I can't help but feel bad for him. He's always liked April since forever and she doesn't like him back. It's cruel the way she is with him but I guess it's understandable as long as you are April Newton.
"So, what'd you still doing here?" April asks rudely.
"Well, you know the usual deal." He tries to smile as brightly as he can.
"Well, I want nothing from you. Now scram off!" She closes her locker violently and I flinch from that but I guess I'm used to the infamous April's sudden outbursts.
Before Mathias leaves with a visually hurt expression, I can't help but smile at him in pity. I doubt he sees it but he leaves with his friend without another world.
"Ugh! He gets on my nerves so much!!" April yells out.
"I totally get you girl but you don't think he's a little hot?" Kelsey asks teasingly and April rolls her eyes.
"Not helping Kels."
"Come on April don't be so mean, the guy just wants him to give you some attention back," Carly says concern in her voice.
"Yeah, I feel bad for him. He's been stuck on you for years, you don't think you can give him a chance?" I say.
"He's just a mediocre guy."
She huffs but even can tell she doesn't mean it this time around. April is mean that's true but she always seems to fumble to that whenever I try to make her change her mind.
"Anyways, let's get in my things in my locker!"
We all follow Kelsey to her locker and then we get to class not long after.
—————-
After a few classes, it is lunchtime and by now it is already towards the end of lunch. We're busy chatting and laughing together but suddenly, Mathias and his friend Isaac come to our table to bother us.
"Hey, girls almost done eating? I was hoping I could trade my applesauce for that muffin." Mathias eyes the muffin of April as he smiles brightly. That guy just doesn't know when to stop.
"Yeah cut to the crap already. What do you want?" April states harshly.
"Oh, you're not gonna give me your muffin, not even a bite of it?"
"No way am I giving that to a disgusting prick like you." He gasps out of shock and we all gasp too. Through this, he tries to keep his smile.
"Oh, come on April don't be so mean. I just wanted to taste your sweet chocolate muffin."
"Yeah no thanks, go bother someone else."
He almost looks about ready to give up until Mathias sets his eyes on me. I smile confused as he gives me a large smile with a wink.
I stare back confused with still a small smile on, the two of the girls are too but April seems pissed.
"Oh, hell nah! You're not gonna start hitting on Macey just because I'm not giving your poor little sad heart some attention."
"So what if I am?" He looks back at me and I blush a bit feeling nervous from his smiling stare.
"You!!" April grits her teeth but gives up. Geez, I've never seen April so worked up over me.
"You know if you need a girl to volunteer, I'm still available." Kelsey flatters her eyelids and smiles brightly. Mathias looks back clearly uneasy. Kelsey is definitely a big turn-off for him.
"Yeah...I think I have better choices in the wild." He smiles slightly uneasy.
"You sure you're fine?" Kelsey teases him. I thought it'd falter Mathias's confidence but it didn't seem like it did.
"Instead of me, what about Isaac here?" He pushes Isaac into us and he looks at all of us nervous and shy, especially at Kelsey.
"Lame, your friend isn't nearly interesting as yours," Kelsey says bluntly and Isaac looks down at his shoes. Poor guy...He didn't want any of this.
"Oh...I didn't think you thought I wasn't interesting.." Isaac says hurt in his voice evident.
"You think Isaac is not cool enough. Now you're the one that's lame. Isaac is the best guy in the whole world!" Mathias boosts and that guy in question blushes embarrassed.
"Anyways, to rap this up, you can leave now, no?" April says with fake niceness.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry to bother you guys. I have somewhere to get to!"
He walks farther than us with Isaac by his side in an attempt to leave but it's no surprise that April interrupts him.
"As if you have somewhere to go. You're just too embarrassed to admit your pride is broken."
"What did you just say?"
"Your pride dummy. Can't run off like that as if nothing ever happened." Kelsey says and Mathias actually glares at her.
He never does so. Through, instead of answering in return, he chooses to smile and winks at me. Immediately, that makes April enraged again.
"Stop flirting with Macey!"
"What? I thought you didn't have any interest in me?" She glares at him.
"You better run off Mathias. You don't want to stick for long." I say.
"Yeah, it's my time to go! Ciao girls!" He waves back as he finally leaves with Isaac.
"Ugh, what's his problem? Why's he flirting with you?"
"I don't know. I've got no clue."
That closes off lunch break as we end up going to class not long after.
——————
It's been two days since then and strangely the same pattern has happened again with Mathias. He winked at me and called me pretty. It's flattering but it's not when April is horribly furious every time he does. Strange but whatever.
Suddenly, I see April coming to my locker in a hurry all dressed up with some red lipstick on top. That's no doubt strange.
"Change of plans. Can't bring you home tonight, I'm going out with Mathias."
"What? I thought you didn't have any interest in him."
"Well, my plans changed and I'm going out with him. Now do I look good?" She waits impatiently for my answer.
"Yes, you do," I say slightly shy.
"Good, now I need to verify if my lipstick is well put on." I don't have time to react as she kisses me quickly.
I get surprised by it but trust me, unfortunately, this is not the first time, I always seem to get all giddy whenever she does this but...
What on earth is April Newton planning!?
——————
I'm still left confused about April's action yesterday but even if it was confusing I can't help but shrug it off.
It's April after all. She knows what's she doing but it's still strange she suddenly went out with Mathias when she clearly hates him. She hasn't given me any details about it which is unlike her and what's worse is that I haven't heard of her since yesterday.
To keep myself busy yesterday, I hung out with Carly. I'm always with April all the time so it felt weird with her not being there.
That's because I so desperately want to be with her all the time and be like her. We don't work without the other but I guess I might be wrong now...Maybe she works better without me than I do without her.
She surprised me yesterday when she kissed me but she has done this on multiple occasions. She does this whenever she needs to confirm something or whatever. It's very confusing but if I get her to confirm anything then I'm happy to oblige.
Anyways, it's not like we like girls or whatever, we both clearly like guys but still having the chance to kiss April Newton of all people is always fun. I always feel lucky she dares to do that with me. It means she really appreciates me as a friend.
Regardless, I don't like overthinking things. I just want to know what happened between Mathias and April.
When her car gets on my entry parking lot I run to her car. I get in and instantly notice her signature sunglasses. It is bright and sunny today after all.
"Woah there, what's the hurry this morning?"
"How'd it go yesterday? You didn't tell me anything. Did it go well?!" I say excitedly expecting her answer. Through, she grimaces.
"Yeah, last night sucked bullets."
She gets out of my parking lot and we go in the direction to Carly's.
"Wait really? Is Mathias that bad?"
"Well, you could know since he keeps flirting with you." What?
"Huh? What are you talking about April?"
"It's nothing that important anyways."
"No, what did Mathias do? Why did you even go out with him if you knew he annoys you to no end?"
"He kept pestering and in the end, I agreed to come. What a mistake through. Should've never gone there."
"Seriously what happened April? You're making me worried." I look at her with concern and she just tries to pretend nothing's wrong.
What happened yesterday? Why won't she tell me? What's wrong with April Newton?!
