The Last Unicorn
This is a story about the narwhal and the unicorn. It's also the story of how the last unicorn disappeared from the world happily ever after.
Once upon a time, there was The Last Unicorn. He was beautiful and elegant. He had earned the hearts of every creature living in the forest by using his great magic to help them. But none of this made him happy.
One day, he looked up at the big and wide starry sky, feeling so alone. He asked the star keeper, Demon.
"Oh, my dark lord, please grant me a shooting star so I can make a wish of having the love that is as genuine as yours and The Moon’s." Said The Last Unicorn.
"Aren't you happy? Everyone adores unicorns.” Said Demon.
“No, because that’s not what I need. I don’t need love from everyone, all I need is love from the only one." Said The Last Unicorn.
"You know that you are making a deal with the devil, don't you?" Said Demon.
"Does this mean you will grant me a wish?" Said The Last Unicorn.
"I will, but with a price. However, you must understand that true love is priceless. I'm afraid that I-" Said Demon. The Last Unicorn interrupted Demon.
"Anything. I will give away all I have to trade it for true love." Said The Last Unicorn.
"Alright then. But I already warned you." Said Demon and threw one of the brightest stars to the north.
"Now go! Run to the north. Follow the shooting star. Never turn back!” Commanded Demon.
The Last Unicorn ran as fast as he could to catch up with the shooting star. From the forest to the hill. From the hill to the valley. From the valley to the desert. And from the desert to the sea. Everyone knew The Last Unicorn was looking for true love.
Thousands of days spent running, finally, the shooting star disappeared at the final location. He found himself besides the ocean of the Arctic water. He gave up his pride. He ran out of magic. He lost his beauty. He wasted his youth. He had nothing but bones and his undying soul. He looked into the sea. A different horn raised from the icy water. The Narwhal Lady kissed him softly and brought him into the sea. She said "You are finally home, my love."
Giving everything up for a place to call home. A home named Love.
