Ellie pulled out the pictures Mr. Fitz gave her.
“It must be this one.” She stated, pointing at the first picture.
“Let’s look around, tell me if you see anything.” She told Skully.
He still felt uneasy. Like they shouldn’t be there, there was an air of thick darkness about this place. As they were searching a shadow passed by outside the door, and all of a sudden the door swung shut. Ellie glanced at Skully.
“Did the door just? Must have been some breeze or something.” She tried to explain it away, her heart racing as she continued searching.
“I think we should just get out of here.” Skully declared anxiously. Ellie was still looking at the sarcophagus.
“Look at this.” She told Skully.
“The black markings left behind, they look like rose vines don’t they?” She remarked as she took her phone out to take some more pictures. She didn’t see the dark tall shadow, growing closer and closer, covering the whole sarcophagus.
“Ellie, we should really go now, something is not right.” Skully warned her. “It suddenly became darker…” He added.
Ellie stepped back and noticed the shadow.
“Rose vines…” She stammered. They stretched from the door all along the floor. Ellie felt them grabbing her legs, pure fear went through her, she had never felt anything like it, her heart beating fast, she felt like she couldn’t breathe, the vines seemed to be made from darkness. Pure darkness. Ellie felt them reach inside her soul, pulling out her darkest memories, the things she feared the most, her mother’s death. She felt helpless, she was drowning in a Sea of Darkness. Her mother had been sick for a long time, she had watched her slowly fade away, and at the same time her father had faded away too. Ellie felt like she didn’t just lose her mother, she lost her father too.
Tears were dripping down from her face. Skully was trying to call her, she couldn’t hear. She could only hear herself calling. “Mom! Dad!”
“Fudge, not again.” Skully grumbled. His eyes shimmered green, a flash came and the green was in Ellie’s eyes. Skully felt himself being sucked into the Sea of Darkness as well.
“Fudge.” He proclaimed.
Ellie stood frozen in the darkness, in front of her was a dark door, she knew this door too well. It was the same door her mother died behind. She didn’t want to open it, but her hand was moving by itself, grabbing on to the door knob. The rose vines crept up the sides of the door.
“Ellie!” She could hear a familiar voice calling.
“Ellie!” It called out again. She glanced around, she couldn’t see anything, only the door. “Ellie! Where the fudge are you?” The voice shouted.
“Skully?” She replied softly.
“Ellie? I’m over here.” Skully yelled across the darkness. Ellie peered at the pure black, there was nothing there. Her hand was still stuck to the door, she tried to let go, but it did not want to.
“Skully? I’m stuck. Please come.” She called out, wondering to herself why she even called out to Skully, he was a skull, what could he do? Suddenly she saw the shape of a man walking towards her from the darkness.
She felt a knot in her stomach, did she make the wrong move again? She didn’t want to enter the room, but it was calling for her.
“Ellie. What the fudge is going on?” The man asked as he reached out to her.
“Skully? Is that you?” She asked, staring at him. He was not much taller than her, his hair was black and messy, reaching his eyes in the front, she thought it looked a bit like a crow’s feathers.
His piercing green eyes looked straight at her. “Why the fudge are you staring at me like that?” He grumbled.
“You… you don’t look like a skull, that’s why!” She exclaimed, puzzled, wondering why Skully looked like flesh and blood all of a sudden.
Skully only now realising, glanced down at his pale hands, he held them up, staring at them, mesmerised.
“Ellie… What the fudge is going on?” He asked again, a feeling of happiness, being in a body again, being able to walk, to touch…
“Is this what you really look like?” She remarked. Skully furrowed his eyebrows, peering at her. Ellie focused on the door again, her hand trying to open it, there was something incredibly dark in there. Skully could feel it, and he realised something.
“Ellie!” He shouted. “I think we’re inside your head.” He warned as he grabbed her other hand.
“We need to get out of here. The rose vines… They brought us here.” He tried telling her. Ellie’s eyes were locked on the door, tears were leaking out again.
“Mom!” She called. “Dad!” She cried out.
“Ellie.” Skully whispered. He pulled her away from the door, it flung open, Ellie’s hand still stuck to the door knob. Skully pried the hand off the knob, the rose vines reaching out to draw Ellie back to the door. She was frozen again, she could see straight into the dark sorrowful room. She felt a tug of despair and gloom as she saw the bed with the body on it. Her mother had once been so full of life, yet there she was, lifeless. Ellie sobbed as she tried to look away, tears were dripping down into the Sea of Darkness. Skully swiftly yanked her away, still holding onto her hand. She left a trail of tears as they ran through the dark.
