“Please pass through the disinfection machine, we don’t know what kind of germ y'all have and we don’t want anyone getting sick”. One of the guards asks.
We comply, but Jess and I share a look, saying that this is ridiculous, and why did we want to help them in the first place.
“Please understand, that we don’t have many guests come to us, especially outsiders, but you were of help accompanying the kid, so that’s why we’ve granted you entrance to the walls, but not beyond our facility.” The same guard informs us.
“Thank you for letting us in, we just wanted to make sure the kid was taken care of before we left. But.. would it be possible to speak to one of your supervisors or something? I don’t know if you Wallers have noticed the development in terms of zombies but we would like to discuss the matter. You see, a lot of us hunters are either dying or being turned in to Zombs and the situation isn’t looking good for us, and if we ain’t looking good, you guys aren’t either, from what we understand.” I answer back.
The guard looks at me like I’ve said the strangest thing in the world, but he still coms his superior, we guess, and tells the person that some outsiders would like to talk zombies. All this is happening and the kid is still with us so we say, we can wait, but I think the kid should get on his way since he needs to help his sister. The guard calls for another guard and takes the kid away, we wave goodbye and he thanks us, as he heads out. I hope we got the kid back in time for his sister.
“Guard, I have a question, first where’s the bathroom, got to take a piss and secondly, who exactly is the kid we saved and brought to Sector 4, I believe?” I ask genuinely.
“Bathroom is behind you on your left. As for the kid, let's just say that he’s related to some important people here, and his sister that was transferred here a while back, got sick and only her brother could be of help. Kid transfers don’t happen often, it’s usually because they’re important kids or are in need of critical aid. Kids are the key to our survival so we sectors must do our best to keep the most of them in good health.”
“I see, thank you if you’ll excuse me then.” I wink to Jess and head to the bathroom. It ain’t fancy, you can tell this is a military Sector just by looking at this toilet room, kaki walls, metal cans, and sinks, really boring. I head out after washing my hands and I guess the guy the guard called has arrived. To be honest, the man, at first glance was kind of scary, even after the second glance too.
“Greetings, I’m Commander Warren, I take care of the south gate, where we are located, of Sector 4. Thank you for keeping the kid safe, we heard that some other transport cars had been attacked in different sectors, but from what the kid has told us, this one was quite bad. Excuse my manners, follow me, we’ll head to a room with some chairs to discuss more.”
We follow Commander Warren, into what looks like an interrogation room, great, they think we some lunatics or something.
“Please excuse the room, we aren’t used to receiving guests from the outside. Do you mind explaining what happened, and maybe elaborating more on these Zombs you speak of?”
Jess and I tell them what happen and we tell them about the Zombs and their growth both intellectually and in numbers, there’s some other guard with us in the room writing down our conversation. This reminded me of the time when we had the leisure to watch movies about criminals or interrogations. Whilst it was cool to feel like we were in a movie, it also wasn’t the best feeling, since it was usually criminals that were interrogated. We also share information on how to hunt these Zombs if needed. Warren thanks us for our generosity and asks us if we would like to eat before we leave, to which we both agree too, since it’s been a long couple of days. It isn’t great but it's good enough that we finish it. They then ask us to wait in another room, because they need to do more checks and then we’ll be free. Thank god, staying in this dark and grey building or basement really isn’t my thing. They clear us and release us outside, we then head to our cars and get ready to head back. I take one last look at the Wall and hope I never have to come back here unless absolutely necessary.
