Chimera Bloodline

Getting questioned

Getting questioned

Jun 02, 2023

"Um..."

Their eager anticipation hangs in the air, but I hesitate. Speaking up might lead me into trouble, and as a child, that's the last thing I want.

"There was this big beast," I finally admit, fearing the consequences of falsehoods if they catch me lying.

"What kind of beast was it?" they inquire, their curiosity piqued.

"An Angel... I think," I offer, only to be met with an eerie silence. Even the insects seem to freeze. I don't understand what the fuss is all about.

Hours pass in stifling silence until my father musters the courage to ask another question, his tone betraying nerves and perhaps even fear.

"Did it say anything to you?" he stammers.

I ponder for a moment, trying to recall. "Let me think... it said I gained a unique bloodline," I respond. The room falls into silence once again as the adults exchange wordless glances, communicating in their own mysterious way.

"Luna, if you please," my father requests.

"Dolos, Spirit of Trickery, may I harness your power once more?" Luna entreats. Suddenly, a radiant light engulfs her, transforming her appearance dramatically. She wears a cape on her back, her body and garments altered beyond recognition.

"Now, Akio, can you explain how you acquired this unique bloodline?" Luna probes, her eyes seemingly peering into my soul. I feel incapable of lying, as if honesty has become my only option.

"I... I ate its heart," I confess, succumbing to the truth. Beads of sweat form on my forehead as anxiety rises within me. Was I hallucinating? Everything spins in dizzying circles. Nausea gnaws at my core, and I yearn to vomit. What is happening to me?

My father, noticing my distress, intervenes. "Enough, Luna. My boy can't handle any more."

"Apologies, Rohan," Luna responds, and with a swift transformation, her appearance reverts to normal. Instantly, the overwhelming sensations fade away, leaving me with an indescribable sense of relief.

"We have just one more question for you," my mother interjects.

"What is it, Mom?" I inquire, my curiosity piqued.

"Can you demonstrate your bloodline?" she asks, seeking proof of my newfound abilities.
