"Where the hell have you been?" Steel greets us at Fiats's front door. He wraps his strong arm around my neck, shoves my head under his arm, and starts ruffling my hair. I hate when he does this.
"Let go, Moron, you stink!"
He quickly lets me go and sniffs his underarm. He smirks. "Oh yeah. I forgot to wear deodorant."
I glare at him, and head to the dining room. I slam my books on the table and Clover and Jay jump out of their chairs, trying to hide that they were just on their phones. I scratch my head in agitation. Will I have to parent these morons forever?
Clover quickly shoves her phone into her bag.
"Look it's gone, we're off the phone Art."
She walks over and starts to fiddle with my hoodie strings. "Aaarrrtt" She whines.
"Don't be mad at us, we're sorry. I promise I will take studying seriously. Pinkie promise."
She offers me her pinkie. I roll my eyes and ignore it.
Jay shoves his phone into her purse and comes up behind her.
"Come on buddy we're sorry. Please tutor us. We'll pay attention, Forgive us please."
Clover, Jay, and Steel huddle around me begging like children. Clover pouts and pokes at my cheeks.
"Pretty please Art we'll behave."
I roll my eyes and sigh. " Fine."
Clover jumps up to the balls of her feet and wraps her arms around my neck, and Steel and Jay follow trapping me into a group bear hug.
I resign myself to the forced hug, if I try to resist they will only hug me tighter and more importantly longer.
Clover pulls away first and swats at the other two. "Alright, Alright. Let go. You know he hates this."
"If you know I hate it, why do you do it then?"
Clover pouts and messes with my hair. "Dahh cause we love you, dummy. So take our love and deal with it frowny."
She pokes her fingernails into my dimples. I hate when she does this. These four morons are the absolute worst, why am I being hunted and haunted?
She puts both her hands on my shoulders, "Did Fiat tell you the news?"
I look from her to Fiat who has stayed silent all this time.
Reading my confused expression she beams. "Fiats parents got us tickets to a resort in Cheong Mon beach! ALL EXPENSE PAID!" She squeals and jumps up and down in place.
I raise my eyebrows. It all makes sense now why these babies are suddenly all of sudden eager to study.
I take a seat at the dining room table.
"Might as well get started then," I say mostly to myself as I ready my materials. It's gonna be a long night.
-Fiat-
My head hurts and I'm so hungry. Art is making us take a practice math test. My mind wanders as I think about his mother's cooking. It should be ready by now.
I look at my phone, Ugh it's getting really late. I can't think over the sounds of my stomach. I look around the table Clover groans and bangs her head against the test instead of taking It. Steel is chewing on his pencil instead of writing, and Jay fiddles on his phone under the table. Obviously texting his boyfriend. I don't know where Art is maybe the bathroom.
He suddenly walks into the room and everyone jumps to look busy.
Morons.
He is carrying bags and his father walks in behind him. All four of us jump up out of our seats to greet him. Art and his father place their bags on the dining room table. I instantly recognize the smell of his mom's food.
Thank you Arts awesome parents.
We have a feast before us and have been eating less than ten minutes when Art speaks.
"How far are you guys into this test?"
We all groan as one. "Just eat, Art. Let's take a break." Clover whines.
Art looks at all our faces and resigns himself back to his plate.
After we have eaten and cleared the plates, Art sends us back to our practice test. When we have finished he quickly grades them with a red marker and hands them back.
"You have got to be kidding?!" Clover protests looking over her test.
I shake my head.
"I kid not." Art mumbles and frowns.
She did the worst. Steel smooshes his paper against his face and groans.
Jay rubs at his temple. "This can't be happening," he says in disbelief.
Clover looks at me, I shrug. She snatches my paper and furrows her brows. " You passed?!?"
"You cheated!" Steel accuses.
"How? And Why? Can I cheat on the real exam? Besides I never cheat." I cross my arms the three of them are glaring at me.
"How?" Jay asks skeptical.
"It's not a trick it just makes sense when Art explains it."
"Were we at the same tutoring session?" Steel asks sarcastically.
I grin at him. "It's true."
Jay groans. " I need a drink."
Art stands up and starts packing up. "Where are you going?" Clover protests.
"Home. It's after midnight."
"It is?" Steel looks at his phone.
Art shakes his head, "Might have been a waste of a day, you guys seem to retain none of what I taught you."
Clover jumps up and pulls her phone from her purse.
"Oh my god! Ten missed calls?!? I'm dead."
The phone vibrates in her hand. She looks at Art then the phone, silently pleading.
He quickly answers it. Her mother immediately begins yelling. He listens then speaks.
"I'm so sorry....Yes, this is Art. I took her phone so she could focus on the practice exam. It's all my fault. I'm sorry we lost track of time......How did she do?"- Art repeats the question-
His eyes go wide and he looks at Clover, who begins pleading.
"Better.. than... before." he states, which is technically true.
"She is definitely getting better.....Yes....Yes I'll work with her more, she has been studying hard....Yes, of course.....I will.....Thank you.....Don't be worried she will be home very soon. It won't happen again.....I apologize again." Art hangs up the phone and hands it to Clover.
"I would fly there if I was you." He warns. Clover nods in understanding and quickly packs up her things and flees toward the front door. Waving us off behind her.
"I'm grabbing a drink, Steel you coming?" Jay says grabbing his things.
"Your wife won't mind?"
Jay frowns, "Call him that to his face next time you see him if you're tired of living."
They both wave goodbyes and leave.
I stand up and walk over to Art who is still packing up. I take his bag from his hand.
"Stay the night it's late. You shouldn't walk."
"It's fine." He reaches for his bag
"I said stay the night it's late."
I take his bag and head for the stairs.
"You're so annoying, you treat me like a baby." He pouts, I turn to look at him, he's being adorable again.
"I don't."
"You do, if you are so worried why didn't you ask Steel and Jay to stay?"
"They have cars, they aren't walking."
"Fine, I'll call a car then."
" No. Come on, go shower."
"I don't have clothes."
"Wear mine."
He takes a deep breath. I can tell he is pissed but I don't care. I should punish him for the stunt he pulled earlier. He will leave only when I'm ready to let him go.
