**{Double Take- Dhruv}
-Arie-
Every few seconds I look up and Bree is staring at me. It doesn't bother me much I'm used to it. I get that stare plenty while someone wonders if I'm a boy or a girl. The freak show.
Caleb tucks my hair behind my ear and I look up at him.
"Are you alright?" He asks as if he knew what I was thinking.
I nod.
"Just hungry. Please feed me."
Caleb smirks, "How can I deny you anything when you ask like that?"
I smile, "Does that mean you'll give me anything as long as I ask sweetly?"
"Pretty much."
"Yay!" Bree squeals and we both turn to see Tee placing a huge funnel cake in front of her before sitting beside her.
"Thank you baby. You got me the biggest one!"
Bree wraps her arms around Tee and pulls him into a kiss. An aggressive one.
I cringe and when I look up so is Caleb.
We both look at each other and bust out laughing.
"What's so funny?" Nickie asks and I literally can not explain as I struggle to control my laughter.
"It was..like an earlier thing. Inside joke." Caleb attempts to explain as his laughter dies down.
I shove him gently so he will stop laughing. He wraps his arm around my neck and pulls me close to whisper in my ear through my hair.
"Did you just read my mind?" He asks and I turn my head to look at him and nod.
He chuckles as he releases my neck just to take hold of both my hips and lift me before placing me to sit on the picnic table.
"What are you doing?" I ask as he kneels down and starts to uncuff my left wedge.
"Reading your mind. Your feet hurt don't they?"
"How did you know?" I ask as he slips my shoe off and works on the other.
"You were walking like your feet hurt." He pulls my other wedge and sets them on the seat of the picnic table.
"What am I supposed to wear on my feet?"
"Let me worry about that. What would you like to eat?" He asks as he places his hands on my exposed thighs.
In an instant once again my body breaks out in goosebumps this time my legs too.
Caleb instantly notices and before he can ask I shake my head.
"I'll eat anything, you pick." I quickly answer his previous question.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure. I'm not picky."
"Ok I'll be back. Don't get stolen."
I roll my eyes.
"Who would steal me?"
"I would if you weren't with me." He chuckles as he walks away.
I roll my eyes but still smile. Cheesy.
"So? How long has that been happening?" Nickie asks the moment Caleb is out of earshot.
"What? Nothing is happening." I refute unconvincingly. I realize how awkwardly I answered and I go ahead an offer her an awkward smile to go with it.
"I'm not buying that. What's going on with you guys?"
"Really. We are just friendly."
"I'm getting much more than friend vibes. He looks at you like he wants to gobble you up."
"Does he?" I ask as casually as I can but my face is already on fire.
"I'm literally shook Caleb must like you." Cassie adds.
"What do you mean?"
"I have never seen him like that. He is kind of a jackass it's unnerving to see him be respectful and charming. Looks like someone got bit by the lovebug."
I roll my eyes. "He is just being nice."
"Yeah to you but Caleb isn't really nice he's jovial. But with you he's different." Nickie explains.
"Really?"
"Yup. Are y'all on a date?"
I freeze up at the question and blink at them.
Nickie cackles, "Oh my god. Y'all are on a date!"
"Is...that bad?"
"No babes. Just unexpected. I'm happy for you. As long as he treats you right I'm happy."
I smile at her, "I think he is. He has been really sweet."
"Do you like him?"
"Just a teeny bit."
"Well good. Take him off of our hands. He is so annoying sometimes." Cassie says with a frown.
I don't really know what to say and suddenly I am aware that someone's staring.
I lift my gaze to meet Tees and his expression is unreadable.
Fuck, this is so surreal.
Caleb reappears almost 20 minutes later. For a time I talked with Cassie and Nickie but struggled. I kept feeling Tee's eyes on me.
I literally sighed the moment Caleb reappeared carrying a pink plastic bag on his wrist and carefully balancing two food trays, and a huge funnel cake on top.
I think to help him but I don't want to stand and get my feet dirty. He sits everything on the table and sighs.
"Those lines are so slow."
"I'm sorry."
"Why?"
"I didn't help you."
"Help me by eating as much of this food as you can." He smirks as he pulls two bottles of lemonade from his back pockets.
"Yes sir."
I turn my body to see what's in the food trays. His hands hover over them frozen.
I look up to meet his gaze and his dark eyes pierce me.
"What?"
He smirks, "Say it again."
I draw a blank.
"Say what again?"
"What did you just call me?"
My mind scrambles trying to remember.
"Sir?"
The moment I say it a wolffish smile spreads across his lips.
I smile. "You like that?"
"Very much."
I chuckle, "Good to know. Stop staring and feed me."
He chuckles as he opens the trays.
One plate has the fixing of southern food. Baked Mac & cheese, barbecue chicken, cornbread, greens, and fried okra.
The other seems to be Mexican. With beans and rice, shredded meat, and the fixings to build a burrito included two tortillas.
"Did I do good?" Caleb asks.
"So good. It all looks yummy. Which is mine?"
"Both. Just eat what you want from both."
"Can I have Mac and cheese please?" I ask. That's what my eyes went to first.
Caleb reaches in his front pocket and produces two packs of plastic-wrapped disposable utensils.
He quickly opens one and produces a spoon. He readies a bite and brings it to my mouth and without thought I let him feed me.
Instantly I get happy at the melty, cheesy goodness.
Caleb wipes the edge of my mouth with a napkin.
"Is it good?" He asks.
"So good." I pick up the packet of utensils left sitting on the table and pull it open for the second spoon and fork.
I cut a piece of barbecue chicken with the spoon and use the fork to scoop Mac and cheese over it to make the perfect bite and lift it to his lips.
He opens his mouth as I feed him the bite.
He slowly chews.
Minutes later we are both feeding each other like it's the most natural thing in the world.
After a while, Caleb must have picked up that I avoid vegetables. He takes a scoop of the corn from the Mexican plate and lifts it to my mouth.
I shake my head and he chuckles.
"You don't like vegetables." He states and I shake my head.
I really really don't.
"This is Mexican corn it's so good. Try it for me." He says as he raises the spoon towards my mouth and I pout.
He chuckles. I didn't expect it but he leans forward and kisses me gently on the cheek.
Goosebumps once again.
He leans back but still stays close to my face.
"Just a little for me. I promise you'll love it."
I pout again but nod slowly.
He leans back and once again lifts the spoon to my lips and I open my mouth for him.
Oh my god. It is so fucking good. Why the hell is this corn so good? Does good corn only come from Mexico?
I cover my mouth as I chew. "Oh my god that is so good."
"I told you." He winks at me as he scoops some more and brings it up to my mouth once again.
I quickly take the bite and it goes like this until the food trays are both empty.
Caleb pushes the empty trays aside and places the huge funnel cake in front of me.
"Hey,how did you get one so big?" Bree asks.
I look up at her confused by her question.
Caleb chuckles, "I paid extra."
"Why?" I ask.
"Because you love sweets."
"How do you know?"
"You told me earlier. Don't you remember?"
I draw a totally blank.
Caleb reads my confusion.
"When we were texting."
Realization finds me. I should have spent more time reading over that thread.
"Yup, your right."
"Since you ate so well. I'll even get you some ice cream later."
Immediately, I perk up at the sound of ice cream it's ridiculous how much I love ice cream.
I watch as he breaks off a huge piece of funnel cake and lifts it to my lips.
"Geez, what's wrong with your hands Arie?" Nickie asks.
I look up at her just realizing that Caleb has fed me my entire meal.
"Shut it. Aries hands are precious." He snaps and I'm mortified. I dip my face down trying to hide my reddening complexion.
Caleb lifts my chin to look at him.
"Ignore them, baby. Eat for me." His dark eyes once again pierce me and without thought, I open my mouth for him.
I slowly chew and once again he is wiping my the corners of my lips.
"You're spoiling me." I accuse him after I finish the bite.
"And?"
"And why are you?"
"It's easy to spoil you Arie. Maybe even rewarding."
"Rewarding how?"
"The more I spoil you the sweeter and more adorable you act. You're kind of melting me inside."
I'm shocked for a moment by his honesty.
"You really always just say what you're thinking," I reply as a statement, not a question.
"Basically. Get used to it Arie. Caleb has no filter. Good or bad he will give it to you straight." Nickie says.
"You will never want it, you will never ask for it but you can count on Caleb to tell you some shit you don't want to hear at all." Cassie adds.
Caleb chuckles and I peer up at him to take in his handsome features as he pulls apart more funnel cake for me to eat.
I wonder about what Bryce said yesterday about Caleb and Tee being so opposite.
I never know what Tee is thinking. Not really and what he tells me for the most part I don't believe.
While Caleb just says what he is thinking or feeling at any given moment.
I'm not going to lie I'm not always pleased by his candor thus far but there is something endearing about the way he just tells me what he feels about me in the moment.
Just to say I'm pretty, or some not at all veiled sexual desire, and now telling me I make him go gooey inside.
"When you talk like that I get goosebumps," I admit to him.
He smiles as he turns to look at me.
"Is that what that is?"
I nod.
"You like it?"
I nod.
"Then I won't stop."
"Please don't."
"Bet."
