Chapter 6: The Auditions – Audition 124

Chapter 6: The Auditions – Audition 124

Jun 26, 2023

The third and final day of auditions was upon them. The number of prospective members in the audition room got smaller as the hours ticked by. Six left. It was only two days prior when there were 129 young men to choose from.

At the end of the day, the four judges would begin to decide which lucky men have made the group. It wouldn’t be an easy choice.

“Slouching does not set a good impression. Why are you still here? Was it not your turn two days ago?”

The watcher was surprised that someone was questioning him, though he found no reason to respond. He glared in return instead.

A door clicking open was heard, and the speaker left to approach the door, no longer bothered with the other man.

“124. That is me.” He announced before the Managing Director could speak. Nodding, Carter allowed the man into the audition room.

Having taken note of the average amount of time each audition was, the watcher decided that he would depart.

The auditionee automatically placed his laminated bio on the table. He immediately after stood on the circle and saved Carter the time it would take to introduce everyone.

“Mr Jones. Miss Walker. Miss Lewins. Mr Crest.” The man addressed the group politely. “There is no need to take precious time with information I already know, so I would rather provide you with some useful details.”

Carter sat back in his chair and folded his arms. “By all means.”

The man presented a delightful smile. “My given name is Vic, and I am twenty-one. Since the age of seven, I have focused on my vocals.” The way in which he spoke was sophisticated, like he had received a high-standard upbringing.

He continued with ease. “During my teen years, I participated in a band, where I was the singer. Unfortunately, I am unable to play any instruments, though I do appreciate the craft. The band played a variety of genres, so I will have no problem with anything thrown at me. For my audition, I would like to show you one of the more difficult songs. A friend of mine wrote this song, and he is willing to provide further pieces if any may be required.”

Disinclined to stand on the same spot while he sang, the man took off to his left and began the performance.

Contrary to Vic’s kempt appearance, the voice that he unleashed had an edginess to it that was most unexpected. It was rough, but not in an unpleasant way. Charlene tilted her head a little, acknowledging the difference between his voice and the previous auditionees.

“I will now exhibit my dancing capabilities, and then you can feel free to judge what you have seen.” The man swiftly moved on when the song ended, leaving no gap to breathe. Then, the pause between his words and movements was just as non-existent. It was like he had somewhere else to be and needed to hurry.

The speed in which he reeled off the routine was almost too quick to examine, though that’s not to say that his motions weren’t impressive. After around twenty seconds, Vic flicked an internal switch. The dance’s velocity instantly reduced.

Accompanying this new style was slow and sad vocalisation. The man showed great stamina as he was able to change between the two with no respiratory evidence that he’d performed the first.

The dance calmly ended with Vic laying on the floor, and his eyes were closed, partially covered by his brown hair.

After staying there for a few moments, as to not break the atmosphere, he slowly rose to his feet. Vic brushed his hair off his face, revealing green eyes. With smiling eyes, he looked at each judge.

“You may proceed with your views.”

Daniel began. “I liked how you made use of the space. It was hard to keep my eyes off you as you would’ve been wherever I tried looking.” He laughed lightly. “Not like I wanted to look away.”

“The second part of your singing was incredibly touching, especially paired with the dancing. Your audition clearly showed that you can perform a range, and I’m curious about how well you can sing other styles.” Charlene praised.

“You’d have the ability to pick up where the others lack, which is always good when it comes to compiling the perfect group. You’d just have to be careful and not outshine the other members.” With auditions drawing to a close, Chris was happy that she wouldn’t have to endure many more. Thus, she was able to feel more comfortable, though her mind was still on the financial benefits of a successful group.

Vic’s eyes rested on Carter, expecting a review from him. As it never came, he thanked everyone and exited the room.

Crossing paths with the previous attempter, the watcher returned, announcing, “Only one hour left.”
