Thankfully the ride was much less eventful than days earlier. They quickly found their way to a familiar door inscribed with the name, 'Eun Yong' glowing in gold.
"You can do the honors, Dr. Lewis." Shou grinned as he gestured for her to knock. Jexanna rolled her eyes at his performance. At least he was behaving right now. She tapped the door.
"Come in." A deep voice came from the other side before the door opened. Captain Yong's office was immediately different from her brother’s. Born off the coast of Africa, Captain Yong didn't disappoint in being somewhat eccentric. He enjoyed many adventures as a boy, including occasionally wandering too far into the ocean to even play pranks on the merpeople and water fae that lived there. It didn't take long for his antics to land him in trouble with the FLA one day. He was given the choice of service in the agency or jail in an underwater city.
At the age of 15, he chose to serve the agency. So it didn't surprise Jexanna that he covered his office in artifacts from around the world, deep rich tones, and the sweet scent of incense. As she rounded the corner, she met his deep green eyes. She watched the gold in his eyes glimmer as they widened.
"Well, this is a surprise." Eun Yong's eyes narrowed as they went up and down her figure. Jexanna rolled her eyes at the tall man. His brow went down as his lips puckered down. "I never thought that you would be here, Dr. Lewis." He enunciated her name as Jexanna's eyes widened just a little. But in all honesty, it didn't surprise her that he knew her little secret.
He even caught her taking the damn potion several times as a teenager. Her father believed that she had escaped the burden of having fae powers, despite her natural appearance. How wrong was he?
Jexanna resisted the urge to laugh bitterly at the reminder of how many times her father tried to hide her heritage from the world and how she tried to hide her emerging powers.
"What can I say, Captain?" She shrugged her shoulders, detaching herself from Shou's side. Jexanna released a sigh as she plopped down into a chair. Finally.
'Is flirting with me so bad?' Shou taunted in her mind. She shot him a pair of narrowed eyes.
'You know if I had my portals, you would be laying on the bottom of the ocean right now.' Jexanna scoffed as Shou sat down next to her.
"I see that you two are just as friendly as rumored." Eun came through, picking up the subtleties of their unspoken conversation.
"Please, he's lucky his sister isn't here," Jexanna stated as soon as she heard the door click. They could discuss things openly now. Being sealed and soundproof was a benefit of these offices.
"Like she could keep you away from me. Is that why you rejected that poor Vaughn? Are you still hoping that I'll take you as my mate?" Jexanna resisted the urge to throw him across the room. Not that she could right now a
"That aside," Eun coughed as he rested at his desk. Jexanna turned to watch him. The man wasn't large like Shou or tall like Aerin. He was human, slender, and short compared to most of the captains and commanders here, but still sharper than half the people leading the agency. The fact that he was second in command of the logistics division as a human proved how keen he was. "So what brings you here, and as your more famous half?"
"We need to reallocate you immediately." Shou dropped his playful tone as he looked over at the Captain.
"To your task force, I presume?" Yong crossed his arms with a smug grin. "I heard that it was under Hamma's command, which shocked a lot of us here."
"I take it that you were insulted just a bit." Jexanna mused.
"A little, because your father showed me the most about his research out of anyone in a military role." Eun nodded. "But I wanted to see how this would play out because it honestly didn't take me long to connect the dots between Jexanna, the Bounty Hunter, and Dr. Jess Lewis as the same person. But wouldn't it just be easier, after all, if you just told people about your other personas, you'd be the perfect fit for the force. So I wanted to see if you would be pulled in or not."
"Well, I'm glad that you still respect other people's secrets." She nodded slightly as a thank you. "But I take it that you're a little shocked that I chose this persona."
"Considering how effective I've heard you are in your true form, this can only mean that you're undercover," Eun replied. Jexanna glanced over as Shou released a loud laugh.
"It's a shame that you're only human, Captain. Otherwise, I'd transfer you into Knight Division." Shou shook his head. Jexanna's eyes narrowed.
"As opposed to Dr. Jess Lewis sitting in front of us?" Eun shot back. Jexanna sighed. Oh yes, the agency still had reservations about sending full-blooded humans into any dangerous situation. Even Shou shared the same sentiment for the Knights, to which Jexanna understood their reservations. Humans required more intensive training to take on powerful creatures and criminals. The main reason Shou and Aerin were comfortable with Jexanna's training was because of her powers. Even then, Shou trained her and worked her twice as hard as other members of his team. So it must have been hard for Eun to rise to second-in-command of the logistics division.
"This was a necessary precaution." Jexanna jumped in before Shou could chime in her defense. She could practically hear the response in his mind that he made her take the nullifying potion and fight half of the Knights in extreme combat before even allowing her to apply for a bounty hunter position. "We don't know if half-fae are affected yet."
"Doesn't the disease just affect children of the moon and night? So unless you had dark fae blood in you...." Shou's eyes sent daggers towards the young Captain. Jexanna watched the Captain freeze and step back in his thoughts. "Fine." Eun raised his hand. "So, what do you need from me?"
"We'd like you to lead the task force," Shou stated.
"And I presume that I don't have a say in this, right?" Captain Yong nodded. "I also assume that whatever Jexanna's mission is, is need to know, as in I don't need to know."
"Oh, I think we will get along splendidly." Shou's fangs flashed as he grinned, reaching over to pat Captain Yong's shoulder. Captain Yong could only give a small smile as he stared at Shou, partially in fear from the amount of power that he decided to radiate at that moment. Jexanna couldn't blame the Captain for being just a little bit terrified because his grin even sent chills down her spine.
"Great." Captain Yong squeaked.
